That semi final when you know there's only 2 minutes left to go, you know this is 53 meters out, but when you see his cold, dead eyes lining up the kick, you know HE'S GOT THIS. One of the 🐐
Love Pollard. He gets too little credit from people wanting to have the next best thing but don't realise what he's actually been. Two World Cups he was instrumental and it wasn't just kicking.
Pollard is fantastic but why do you think he doesn’t get enough credit as a player ? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t acknowledge his contribution in the RWCs . Fans from other teams will naturally talk up their own players and that’s ok, it’s just opinions but that is not to say that Pollard is acknowledged to be a good player
@@patrickchilds2987I think you are reading OP wrong. It's not the fans from other countries, it's our own fans! So Libbok does something good and suddenly he is the best thing ever. Or Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu comes along and then he is hailed as the next coming of the Messiah. And then our own fans would tell us how "Libbok would have created more chances" and what other nonsense. If we sound like a self sabotaging people, OH WE SO ARE.
Pollard is not good in defense and doesn't offer much in attack, he just knows how to win big games under ridiculous pressure. Something France, Ireland even New Zealand till 2015 struggled with. His BMT is 2nd to none. Pollard can miss 2 tackles, knock the ball on and kick a 55m kick in the 75th min. His mental fortitude is what's underrated
What a legend. Top bloke and a general on the field, calmness personified. I’m sure could have easily been SA Captain. You just feel when he’s on the field for SA ‘they’ve got this’, no matter what. He’s been a real credit to the Prem and hope he’s enjoyed his time with Tigers.
I really love the podcast. It is truly the only rugby podcast that is not about hype or reaction but about the game and the players. Keep up the good work.
It seems insane that he was initially left out of that 2023 WC Bok team. He has to be one of the most under appreciated players in both the recent World Cup wins. Loved what he said at the end about his ultimate rugby ambition, to have his previous team mates from around the world, around for a braai. Legendary player!
He was injured and could not be selected. If i rememeber correctly our first Injury in the WC was Marx, and Pollard was called up. It was the worst kept secret in SA in 2023.
Would be awesome if you guys can get a conversation with one the springbok players from the 2016/17 era. Would love to hear some of their stories about the dressing room and feelings during those big losses and if they thought it would get better and now the difference with Rassie being there
As a Saffa, there are things that make you feel safe and secure in this world, but none of them match the feeling of seeing Polly standing over the ball taking three deep breaths and then slotting it between the posts. My guy 💛
We watch him at Tigers and he is head and shoulders above the rest. People focus on his kicking but his range of pass and tackling are unbelievable . 🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯
Not a guy to over complicate life. Yet you know he has a lot of steel determination. Love the fact he is at Leicester. That he enjoys it & wants to win. Glad we can afford him. Going to be hard to replace him. Not just for his rugby. But his input. Great podcast. My Question. What does he find tough.
World class players. There is a lot of debate over who is currently the best flyhalf and lots of names are thrown about like Russel, Smith, Moanga, Farrell etc etc but if you had to pick a flyhalf for a high pressure, high stakes game, it would be very difficult to look past Polly. And that to me makes him the best
Just because he didnt dazzle like Dan Carter but Pollard is the Michael Jordan of Rugby. Yes its a team sport but his Leadership and his kicks to win 2 World Cups. Criminal that he hasnt even won world rugby payer of the year. Polly is the GOAT!
Dan was unrivalled in skill and ability as a 10. He was the complete 10 in that sense. Polly's leadership calmness and his 100% kicking under UNBELIEVABLE pressure in last years RWC not too mention 2019 is something even Dan Carter will acknowledge is beyond AMAZING. Ask Jordie Barrett and richie Mo'unga as they failed under the pressure and missed their kicks in the final. If the boks win in 2027 then this bok team will surpass the 2015 all blacks as the greatest and polly will have 3 RWC winners medals, 1 more than Carter😋 as they both have a British Irish lions series winners medal. Polly will be the most decorated 10 in the history of the game as the international arena is the pinnacle of the sport.
Interesting that bit about De Allende, after Tony Brown just recently said he was the best passer in the team. Might see him play more of a distributor role soon
I've always respected the English Rugby team, but after 2019 WC when majority of players removed their second place medal right after receiving it, that made me lose all respect...
when you see this it nearly feels like polly doesn't even care about the rugby, the games, the world cups and what not, it's just about the beers after the game with his friends and some rugby in between. kind of a sunday league mentality. playing rugby is his excuse to hang out with his friends. just so happens that he's one of the best ever
Polly is wrong about olden days of Super10/Super12, the Sharks had a bunch of French players in the mid 90s (Thierry Lacroix, Oliver Roumat and then later Michalak, there were another few I'm forgetting). Plus guys like Tony Brown who played for the Sharks and the Stormers. There used to be more overseas players playing in SA in those days than today. Gregor Townsend also played for one of the SA sides in Super Rugby. There have also been a bunch of Argentinian and Aussie players that have played for SA sides over the years.
All i will say is Handre Pollard has spoilt the south african fanbase. we are so used to seeing a 100% success rate that God help any springbok who misses even one kick for poles.
True, all misses can be excused, more so if it is more difficult kicks. Naas, Johny, Dan and Morne also missed a few ones, but if you consistently miss the easier ones more so from right in front and cannot kick under pressure, you should not be a bok 10 option.
@@Bachmann-SDG you must be referring to mannie libbok. While I can agree that he should not be the a goal kicker, i dont agree that he should not be a springbok 10. goal kicking aside he is a magician on the field. and it is not the defacto job of a 10 to take the goal kicks. Percy M was a full back after all and he is one of the highest scorers in springboks in history.
@@skbenga3828 Yes, Manie is a magician, against his own team! See the 'magic' that caused another loss against the Sharks. Dropping balls, knocking, missing kicks, caught in defense. Manie is a okish urc level player, but totally over hyped by some as bok player. Boks have more than enough playmakers in stock, and with SFM and DW back next year, even more good back up for Pollard. Jordan and Masuka also looks like more cool heads as 10 options. Pollard's legendary general bmt type magic is our biggest asset at 10, hopefully the others will also step up in next few seasons for bok sake.
It is both so funny and sad at the same time that some saffa's (they getting fewer by the day) from some parts of our beautiful country still do not rate this legend of our sport. He is maybe the best SA ever had at 10, at least top 3. What is even more laughable is that some want to replace him with Libbok, who is at best a average 10 (see his latest bad game against the Sharks the weekend), who won't even make top 15 bok SA flyhalf list. Pollard and Sacha the 10 options for Boks at this stage, the battle for nr. 3 option still open.
Handré was wrong, y'all aren't clowns because clowns are actually funny. You accompanied every question with a boring joke while I just wanted to hear Handré's answers. However, great idea having P❤LLARD(aka South Africa's husband😍😍😍) on again.
Pollard is such a classy, chilled guy. A real credit to South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤👌🏽

He won the world cup as a Junior Springbok.

Interestingly as chilled in this interview as he appears on the pitch. Utter legend and a credit to his country.
Well that kept me engaged for an hour - thanks guys from Oz
Great podcast. So many of us Saffas prefer your podcast to our local ones.

Awesome discussion. Love the format and Handre is amazing!
Great show, very humble and likeable hosts.
Good to be featured on the Pod, boys! Glad I could contribute to some well informed and serious rugby discussion.
Best clutch kicker ever.

Not sure what I enjoy more… that you guys are rugby players first and competition after, or…. the great playbook insights. Brilliant. Thank you.

The best flyhalf that South Africa has ever had. What a champion.

Call her Pollock
Call her Handrea

Polly is a young-ish lad.

ARG all angry sipping on mate 😂
I'd love to know if that drop kick was 'going over' prior to Ardie's charge down in the 2023 RWC Final!?!?

Pollie 🇿🇦❄️🍻💪
Max Lahiff from Bristol Bears also played super rugby, he played for Melbourne rebels.
And - whisper it - so did Hask. And Japan. Played in every bloody league going.
Would be great if you could have Julian Montoya on/some Argentinians on your pod!
👀
Montoya would be great! Seems such a great guy as well as an incredible captain of a great team that deserves more attention.
Lol first question and I was hooked😂
