A great video, thanks for sharing. I have to admit that in a huge city like Tokyo, I will not go out of my way to go to a specific restaurant. My "strategy" is totally different: I will decide what I crave (ramen, soba, tonkatsu, sushi, kaisendon, tempura, korean bbq, seafood, shabu shabu, yakitori etc.) and then I will look for a place that looks good in the area I am in. I so far had only good experiences with that "system".
yeah i'm researching a three-week trip now and it's a bit overwhelming so i think we'll just eat based on where we are too unless there's somewhere we absolutely want to go to, but i don't think i've found a "must-eat-here" place yet.
Fabulous recommendations. Will check them out next week! I have just noticed that Nishitani has increased their prices by about ¥500 across all the set lunches based on a review posted today.
I am so excited to visit Kantan-na-yume when I visit Tokyo later this month. I worked in Kamiyamacho for 5 years (back in the 80s) and this shop is only a few minutes from my old office. Shibuya has changed so much since my time there!
Thank you Ghib for the awesome video. i will be going to Tokyo again for the cherry blossoms this end march and i will be staying near Ueno. So i will be following most of your recommendations especially the ameyoko one!
Why didnt i find you before i went!!! So many dope finds! Japan was awesome because of the people make it so. Hope to visit these spots when i go again.
Thank you for these recommendations! I’m going to Japan in March and I’m super excited. Do you have any hidden gem recommendations for Osaka and Kyoto?
Subscribed because you actually showed hidden jewels of food stops. But in Tokyo the biggest hidden gems that tourists miss out on and when I went there street stalls.
So excited to visit Tokyo 11/1/24 and enjoyed your vids. Although I usually dont shy away from food, I would pass on the places with out of the norm cuts of meat. still cant wait to go and thanks for video
@GhibOjisan I want to express a huge THANK YOU for the recommendations you shared in this video.🙌 I managed to try the sushi lunch at Nishitani and the yakitori at Michishirube when I visited Tokyo last month, and I was so impressed at both places! 完全に満足でした~ At Michishirube, I also had an amazing side dish I'd like to share with anyone here who's thinking to go -- the "uni tofu". Silky smooth and creamy, best eaten in one indulgent mouthful🤤
Thank you for all the recommendations! I'm going to Japan next month and have been trying to figure out where to eat in Tokyo (same with Osaka...thankfully you posted a video about it too). I might have to check out every spot in this video. Marushichi, Sanbyakuya, and Michishirube are the restaurants I really want to visit the most though!
I just stumbled on Tonkatsu Marushichi when I went during New Year's day and I was just smiling so much when I was eating it, best value and easily trumps the usual recommended shops! Thank you for this list, I'm flying back to Tokyo to try the rest!!! :D
Marushichi is a gem. Despite the size of their tonkatsu, it's not that heavy as long as you're not trying to down a beer with it. It's a beautifully done bowl that leaves you with the right amount of satisfaction. Compared to say Chiyomatsu in Osaka where it's amazingly filling with their gigantic tonkatsu, but makes you feel like you're going to tip over afterwards.
I am now at Buka daigaku Jimbasho n could not eat the pork bowl as the shop on 3F is closed… but I tried the fried cutlet n it’s really sumptuous! Thank you for your introduction. I wonder where to try next 😁😋😋😋
Hi Ghib, i forward this to my brother in law, he is a japanese, i told my sister to tell him abt the Rakuten , n forward to my japanese friend too abt Rakuten,, thks for all the info,, making me hungry again n wanna go to japan again hehe i went last augst,, n alrdy got my Eijyuken back so can go anytime now, japan is like my dai ni furusato,, Huat Ah always , 🙇👍 regards to wife n family, for CNY, Khong Xi Fa Chai , ㊗️🍶🍾😃

Hi Ghib, I am flying to Tokyo for travel soon! Thanks a lot for this timely video :) May I ask for the Nishitani Sushi set, when is this available? Is it only during weekday lunch?
👋👋👋Hello Ghib San😊 Greetings from Singaporean first time travelling to Japan🎉 Can you advice which part of Japan is best to go this November 2024 for 8 nights? Also less crowded, less rain and nice autumn scenery🙏
I used to live in Kanda (Ochanomizu) and Kanda Matsuya often had a queue outside. What you call Oku-Sibuya, I would call Tomigaya or Kamiyama-cho, and I used to live there as well. Intestines are fine, but most Westerners do not like the texture of 軟骨! I also used to work in Nihonbashi, 15 minutes walk to Ginza, and live in Kachidoki, maybe 30 minutes walk? But I have never been to Nishitani restaurant. Kichijoji is also quite a good place to buy furniture, if you want to kit out an apartment in Tokyo.
Do I have to make an appointment for all those restaurants that you recommend? I am going to Tokyo in April. Please help. I have never been to Japan before. Thanks.
Hey, like your vid. Was wondering if you do private tours as I will be disembarking a cruise in Tokyo on 9/10/24. I would like to gather a group of 6-8 ppl and do a 5 days tour. Please let me know. Thanks.
Ojisan, I really like to go to Michishirube, shinjuku for Yakitori the you had. I like to make a reservation for end of April. Do I call them on the phone and make it? Any suggestions?

Wow these are the best recommendations I have seen yet for where to eat like a local. Thank you so much!
Awesome content! I love Japan! Such a beautiful country.
Glad you enjoyed Irene!
Fabulous recommendations. Will check them out next week! I have just noticed that Nishitani has increased their prices by about ¥500 across all the set lunches based on a review posted today.
That’s unfortunate… I knew it was too cheap for the quality😅
At Nishitani now 25/04/2024
All tax in
松 3850
竹 2750
梅 1870
Rakuten travel is awesome. It makes everything so easy and affordable
Merci ….. arigato in french , you have helped me a great deal as i’m starting to plan my trip for fall 2024 !!!

I know it is a chain restaurant, but I really love 焼肉名店, you pay per slice but all slices are perfect.

good job! makes me want to try the sushi and yakitori...
The butadon you recommended is my son's favourite go to place every time we go to Japan. Mike Chen recommended that place years ago. Great find.
the Tsukumen at koenji was awesome, very diff from all e tsukumen i had all to date.
Liked it very much
Went twice
Overstuffed myself 2nd visit

May I ask for the Nishitani Sushi set, when is this available? Is it only during weekday lunch?
Yep only weekday lunch! Cannot book. But I heard that they raised the price by 500yen. Enjoy your trip!

I put the reservation details in the video description! You can assume that you cannot reserve if no reservation info is written
I have followed and subscribe. very useful
I also like tsukemen enji!
We can be friends!
Ur best dipping ramen look just like our [Singapore] mee rubus, wonder whether it taste similar.
