Well ..it still proved true.....after 1980 the Stones rarely released anything of substance....they admit themselves so ,because their setlist contains mostly pre 1979 material .

I have seen them 4 times live and after many awesome concerts of other bands that I like too I have to say that they are the best live act of them all.
@Lea Natale I have been a big JT fan most of my life and am also 60. Lately I have been deep into other musicians and bands like David Bowie, Did you happen to see the music and video he made while dying? Blackstar. I also like Talking Heads/David Byrne. Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler too. I wouldn't waste my time on going to see either Ian or Martin these days. I have probably been to over 100 of their concerts over the years. I have come to believe that Ian has some type of ego or issue where he just can't hang it up and let it go. He is like a punch drunk boxer well over his prime still trying to be a prize fighter. I would have had more respect for him and the band had he hung it up while they were still good. I even wrote to him more than once and suggested he get a new lead singer. For any person that wants to hate on me for my analysis, simply listen to any song he performed pre 1980 and pull up a 2019 video of him doing the same song. He is horrendous. In contrast look up blackstar and go to the 4:30 mark or so of that video and listen to Bowie's beautiful voice at age 69 while dying of liver cancer.

When I hear this song I always think of my older cousins that lived up street from me when I was a kid. They saw them in concert and talked about it for months. Always had Jethro Tull on their stereo. Good times and fond memories. Wish I could go back to those days.
There was a performance similar to this on the 20 years of Jethro Tull video which was an absolutely fantastic story of the Scottish genius up in his salmon farm in Scotland.🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🎸🎸🎸😁😁😁
So glad my informal musical appreciation education started at this time! So many great and totally individual bands around at that time compared to the drivel of today. I was truly blessed 🙏
Ian has always had a magical sense of humour , I've still got his 25years anniversary DVD which has all the countless members of his band meeting in a pub in London. I've lost count of the times I've seen them and still wonder where Ian got that tent from on the live show of Thick as a Brick.🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁
I have been quite amused by every comment on this video. No one AT ALL gets the antics in this video for what they are. I'm going to show my (kinda scary) age here, and tell all you young folks what's actually happening here. This was from 1976 - MTV did not exist yet, and would not for several years. Note that what you are hearing is the studio cut of this song. At this point in time, asking an artist to lip-synch to their studio cut was, well, weird. Like I said, MTV did not exist yet. Solid Gold wouldn't even be a thing for several years from this point. If you'll watch other videos from around this time, you'll see similar things - Slade, particularly, was known for the singing members chewing gum. In this video, Ian steps on dude's arm while he's playing, and does the beer silliness later - this is so the listener realizes that THIS IS NOT THE BAND'S LIVE SOUND. Bands at that time were afraid that video of them lip synching their studio cut might lead the viewer to believe that's what they actually sounded like live, and would result in disappointment at live shows, and so they would do odd things like this during these weird new "video" things. This practice disappeared by 1980.
@@BrutishYetDelightful spot on, you can see him trying to mime while spitting beer out and messing around with Martin's guitar 'playing'. All done in good fun and great taste.
Ahhh what memories-ae a 60 year Englishman from Peckham in S.E London this was my yery first experience of Jethro Tull...watching this "vid" as a 13 year old on English T.V. and thinking "I have to check out THIS band" and get the album "too old to rock n roll too young to die" which made me "backtrack " to then get (in my opinion) their TWO best albums MINSTREL IN THE GALLERY and AQUALUNG and have been a MASSIVE Tull fan ever since...tragically IRONIC with the THE LATE GREAT JOHN GLASSCOCK MIMING/SINGING with Ian "TOO YOUNG TO DIE"...again (in my opinion) J.T.'s BEST EVER bass player...watching it thinking "there's only ONE COUNTRY THIS BAND COULD COME FROM=proud to say=ENGLAND!! and Ian + Martin are still GOING STRONG some FIFTYFIVE Years later=EXCELLENT!! of a brilliant band that does NOT take itself TOO SERIOUSLY and has a great sense of humour=proud to say=English/British sense of humour...A F*****G BRILLIANT band...cheers,all the best from Piersgrowcott7@gmail.com-a.k.a.-Chopper.

Married with three kids up by the ring road
Sold their souls straight down the line

Its obviously mimed and lip synced
unforgettable the only complaint I may have is I can't play anything else once I start listening to them I end up playing all the albums I have which is quite a lot
A lot of tull fans dismissed this album, I thought it was class.
His mimics and gestures are so nice, His Smile, but the music itself, too.
He's got a strikingly good voice. I always loved this song. Because you're never too old to rock and roll
Fuck. I just caught him lip synching...
You think Kurt Cobain ever lip synched? He would kill himself first....
Most British shows at the time mandated lip syncing.
Well, to me it's John Glascock in this video, singing too young to die. So young and such a nice guy as I have read. RIP John.
So glad my informal musical appreciation education started at this time! So many great and totally individual bands around at that time compared to the drivel of today. I was truly blessed 🙏
I don't believe there is a better front man than Ian Anderson, he is mesmerizing.
Thanks J for 40 years of the best , you saved rock and roll !
Ian's attempts to down that beer while singing that song were nothing short of heroic. 😅
Lt. Dan on New Years Eve dreaming he’s not in a wheelchair anymore.
@@BrutishYetDelightful spot on, you can see him trying to mime while spitting beer out and messing around with Martin's guitar 'playing'. All done in good fun and great taste.
@@BrutishYetDelightful I've seen Tull in concert 7 times. Just amazing every time.
I think the best one was their Heavy Horses tour.
Ahhh what memories-ae a 60 year Englishman from Peckham in S.E
London this was my yery first experience of Jethro Tull...watching this "vid" as a 13 year old on English T.V. and thinking "I have to check out THIS band" and get the album "too old to rock n roll too young to die" which made me "backtrack " to then get (in my opinion) their TWO best albums MINSTREL IN THE GALLERY and AQUALUNG and have been a MASSIVE Tull fan ever since...tragically IRONIC with the THE LATE GREAT JOHN GLASSCOCK MIMING/SINGING with Ian "TOO YOUNG TO DIE"...again (in my opinion) J.T.'s BEST EVER bass player...watching it thinking "there's only ONE COUNTRY THIS BAND COULD COME FROM=proud to say=ENGLAND!! and Ian + Martin are still GOING STRONG some FIFTYFIVE Years later=EXCELLENT!! of a brilliant band that does NOT take itself TOO SERIOUSLY and has a great sense of humour=proud to say=English/British sense of humour...A F*****G BRILLIANT band...cheers,all the best from Piersgrowcott7@gmail.com-a.k.a.-Chopper.
How a song can sound so upbeat, but be so deep at the same time? Beautiful yet melancholic. I love it!💕
My favorite band” EVER”. Seen them @ the Garden back in the 70’s never disappointed shows were simply phenomenal, miss those glory days!!!!👌
this is one of the best british bands
My beautiful wife and I have seen him a dozen times, and he is always so fantastic!!!!!!
Best band of all times
Certainly in the top 5.
& Floyd,K. Crimson ,and Génesis w Gabriel...the best progres. Rock Bands Ever‼️👁
And the worst song they ever did! ;-) This song makes me cringe it's so bad.
@@justgivemethetruth The video is sure kinda cringy, but come on, the song is at least funny!
@@justgivemethetruth Have to agree. Not their finest hour.
I first discovered Jethro Tull when I bought Aqualung in the 70s and later ; later I was mesmerized by Living in the Past, My wife and I went to his Melbourne concert at Festival Hall in '72, Absolutely fantastic!!
You’ve got to love Ian Anderson what a star and what a brilliant song cheers Ian and jethro
These guys are awesome! Always talking about having fun and every song sounds like a fairytale!
It's been 46 years when I heard this Jethro Tull song. I was 16 years old, I never imagined that the title of the song would identify me like it does now. I became Ray Lomas.
A lot of the bands were more a flash in the pan. Also any schmeal who could impress the dj could cut a platter. AND the dj will spin it after this song. Now, its impossible to get your shit played...
I saw Jethro Tull at MSG. Ian Anderson was the skankiest looking guy i had ever seen, but what a presence on stage. I loved him by the end of that night.
I discovered this Song thanks to a Book written by a Flemish Novellist. Great Song.
The pizzicato strings (where the violinists put aside their bows) adds a bright yet melancholic “pluck” to the song’s progression.
I remember seeing this . Just 43 years ago 😦
Stu, you lucky bastardo
@@kremna5 wish I was 19 again.👍
@@sturusk3620 don' t you worry we all are.
God I remember I was about 19 years old myself when this LP came out this song Still text me to another place and time very thankful for great music memories of great musicians Ian Anderson will live forever for the people that put a thumbs down to this they were brought up and grew up in the wrong generation they will never understand what real music is
Это и сейчас прекрасно.
I saw him in Hartford Connecticut in the late 70s the best show I’ve ever seen in my life
One of the best songs ever
I'm 72 now, had to teach my son (47) to listen to what he is saying and he feel in love with the band ever since. We both have always had to had at least a couple of bikes.
Yup!!
Fantastic - back in the day when we had 'proper' music. This was from a kid's TV show called Supersonic if I recall! Imagine exposing children to beer swilling loonies these days lol
I would love to see them live. I grew up to his music
Ian's voice is shot.he is 70 odd.great band
I saw him several times he's a fantastic man! True at 74 his voice isn't the same, but his heart is still in his music. I absolutely love this man.
It is a song with a very significant message and more than that the song is old and me being twenty years old resonates!!
Ian - God bless you man.
Motorcycle headlight on drum kit gets me every time . Just may be my favorite music video ever.
Ele tentou...
Saw it live in Pittsburgh 1970 to 1980. Was the best time for Rock and Roll.
Amazing band , amazing music !
40 years ago I heard this song. Tull set me on a strange and very satisfying search for new music. Thank you Iam
Ian
