This is absolutely amazing. Thank you for posting this. Great way to find offense on the way to the clamp or from the clamp. So many options

Great breakdown but you forgot to mentioning the 3 fingers grip... this is important to allow you whiling pinning the shoulder opponent to create more space between your body and face/neck opponent. Afterward, every movement is adapted for your body type, if you feel comfortable doing this way, go forward! Oss

I was thinking the best way to prevent the left arm of the oppo ent getting head control/shoulder pressure. Maybe a half helmet guard or hook the opponents arm with my right hand (which might not be strong enough.

Maybe just give Neil Melanson credit for his technique....the choke is the "Neil Knot"...the guard is usually refered to as Williams guard after Shawn Williams...Neil invented this choke. Period.

Greg Swanson bjj players usually call it Williams guard...submission grapplers have probably heard it referred to as shoulder pin guard after neil

Can you show a transition into an inverted armbar? Do we want to keep the arm in a shotgun position?

I tried that in my BJJ class. I got the Williams guard, grabbed the ankle with my right hand and grabbed the right forearm with my left hand with no problems, but no matter how hard I squeezed, I just couldn't get the choke. It was as if I made a loose triangle around their neck but couldn't figure out a way to tighten it. Can you please do a follow-up on the actually squeeze, explaining where the pressure is and such?

I've been working william's guard for a month or so now and from my experience this choke is very dependant on the morphology of the people involved. When I first tested it on my long suffering girlfriend (she always helps me with testing the weird things I find online before I try it in a roll) the geometry was such that I just needed to flex my wrists down (like the reverse motion of throttling a motorbike) and the choke came-on immediately. Then in class I managed to get it on an average sized guy but no matter how much I flexed my wrists it wouldn't get tight enough, so I started curling my leg towards me which pulled my choking arm across and tighter to the neck. This seemed to work quite well but you need a really good grip on your leg for it to work, which is sometimes difficult to get. Then there are some muscular guys I've tried it on that I just flat out failed to get the position on since their bigger necks and shoulders prevent me from reaching my leg. Annoyingly, when this happens, I'm left with a compromised guard that the opponent can blast out of (if they know what they're doing). Hope something I've said is useful to you but, since your comment is fairly old now, I'm interested to hear whether you've had any success with it since? Did you find any details that improved your success percentage with it?

@@rhidiandavies1991 Thanks for such a detailed response. I was able to get it work sometimes and sometimes it didn't work. I'm not sure I attributed it to my partners' body types but you may be absolutely right. It wasn't really high percentage for me, so I kind of slowly stopped using it. Maybe when the world is out of quarantine, I can try it again and see if I can find a pattern as far as body types and effectiveness.

@@rhidiandavies1991 The size doesn't matter, although it's obviously easier to submit someone smaller than you. I hit this on some beefy ex wrestler yesterday, it's all about angling yourself to make sure he has no room, same as a triangle. Make sure you break the posture down same as a triangle.
