  • On April 24, 2021, Lacy Murphy, PhD candidate in the Department of Art History & Archaeology in Arts & Sciences, considered the etchings of French printmaker Charles Meryon, which celebrate the maze-like anarchy of the Île de la Cité in 19th-century Paris on the eve of Georges-Eugène Haussmann's massive urban renewal project. Through the etchings, the city is able to boldly assert itself, offering one final stand on the eve of certain destruction.
New Perspectives talks are opportunities to learn more about the Museum’s collection from emerging scholars. The talks are given by graduate students in the Department of Art History & Archaeology in Arts & Sciences and focus on one or more works from the collection, often aligning with the students’ own expertise and scholarly interests.
