Hi Guys - the Nightmare begins @7:18 As for the comments questioning why I'd wrap the 4Runner, the first reason is personal preference. I worked really hard, lots of overtime to purchase the 4runner and I loved and still do love how the green looks. Why wrap over paint? Well, it's less permanent, less expensive and it does provide paint protection from debris, environmental elements, etc. When the wrap is removed, it does not leave residue. Sorry to hear of all your issues - but great car nonetheless. I picked up a 2023 4-Runner rental TRD Off-road from Seattle for a road trip around British Columbia. Was interested to try the car (the 5th gen 4Runner never made it to the UK!) Despite it being an old design and powertrain, really loved that car - it felt absolutely bullet proof and handled the miles and rough roads perfectly. From what I read, the next gen will be a turbo, 4-cylinder hybrid - no doubt way more fuel efficient and probably quicker, but loads more to go wrong! I’d have the old one in a heartbeat! All best.
I'm so sorry and astounded at this experience you had! Unbelievable! One of the reasons I purchased a 2023 4Runner (Lunar Rock) is the unequaled reliability. I've had the same bad experiences from dealerships, service garages, warranty issues in my 60 yrs of driving. I never want to take my new 4Runner in for any reason just because I want all the shysters to keep their hands OFF my baby. I do all of the regularly scheduled maintenance myself because of the incompetence that you yourselves have experienced. The reliability quotient of the 4Runner should hopefully insure I won't need to take it anywhere for service, hopefully for the rest of my life. In the event I am required to take it in, I will tell them to their face that this is my baby and I will hold them accountable for any door dings, scratches, or other incompetences they inflict on my vehicle-and I WILL hold them to it. There is just no excuse for how you have been treated after paying that much money for your new 4Runner. I hope you are asking and receiving satisfaction from them for the issues they caused to include anxiety and frustration compensation!
Interesting story. I would have stuck with the "ugly pinstripe" and the stock factory paint. My wife's new 23 CX5 PP almost immediately got an ugly parking lot dent on the FL fender. Still upset about that. The paint is intact so I won't even get it repaired and repainted or pull the fender well panel for a "paintless dent repair". Any time you pull any panel or trim it's not going to be the same afterwards. As far as Nitrogen goes, I have a compressor in my garage and put air in the tires in the fall and winter and let it out in the spring and summer. Also run our tires about 5 psi above the door post for better wear. It's still 5-10 psi below the max tire pressure on the sidewall. If the vehicle is riding too hard I let a couple of psi out. When towing with my truck I run max sidewall pressure.
Title is a little misleading but appreciate sharing your experience. That's why I keep my cars stock, I don' t like dealing with incompetent shops. I even stay away from adding tinted window even though I want it just because I want to avoid these type of issues. I own a stock 2024 TRD Sport!
I have been considering wrapping my 2023 Trd off-road. My reasoning was I have been taking it off road and was getting some branch pinstriping rubbing up against the paint. Most of the scratches were able to be removed with buffing but now I’m reconsidering the wrap. Thank you for the video.
This title is misleading. It was a wrap job, not the 4runner, that was the problem. IMO, people should be happy with the color they get. It's not worth it to do these types of upgrades.
Wow u just really ruined your brand new 4R…wrapping is good only to those old car, cheaper than repainting it…but for new car wow I would even allow my son to drive my 4Runner
Sorry to hear this happened to y’all. I was thinking to get my entire TRD Pro PPF’d, but after hearing this, I’m thinking to just PPF the front of my vehicle.
sorry to hear what happened to your 4runner, i'll be really pissed off, too. That's the problem nowadays, it's very hard to find good workmanship anymore. pluss trusting someone to do a good job. too bad you couldn't hold back the payment until the job was done right. she's still a good-looking truck, though, and yes, i, too.have a 4runnner. she's a 2016 4runner trail with kdss and all decked out for overlandding. be safe out there.
What was the original color by the way? I think the wrapping ruined a lot on your truck. Wrapping a vehicle is just a gimmick, if you have money to burn. I’m sure all sales are final. If you don’t get those cut paint area fix, depending where you live, rust will get to the metal quickly.
I feel really bad for what happened to your Pro and hope that things work out for you going forwards. What happened to the missing TRD Pro emblem on the passenger side C-pillar? Did they leave that inside the door panel too?
PLEASE NAME THE COMPANY! Also, I hope you consider suing them for damages (you typically have a 2 yr window for filing a tort), breach if implied warranty/workmanship and actual damage to the vehicle. I would also contact your state's Attorney General's office to file a potential consumer fraud claims.

The army green was 2020-22. We would have gone used, but the resale value was comparable to new (especially for the army green). SR5 vs TRD Pro, I'd rather have manual T-case. Pro vs off-road, the suspension on the Pro absorbs curbs much better..

Thank you! We’re in the Midwest and it was incredibly difficult to find. We waited for 6 months and that 5-7k over market is likely the nitrogen + package.
@@hardnoxperformance for us here in the New York And New Jersey areas “Market Adjustment” is just a premium we pay to purchase a brand new vehicle from a dealership. An SR5 4runner from our local toyota dealership will usually be marked up $6500, if I had not done my homework and also received a good referral from a good friend of mine they were asking for as much as what I paid for a TRD off road premium for a base SR5 with no options, also the dealers up in the North East are trying to sell vehicles at 8% or more APR. Market Adjustments are price gouging and should be illegal.
It's a disaster when they must remove doors to perform the wrapping. Why would you want to wrap a brand-new Runner? You guys probably must have spent close to 100k for it, and it is so messed up 😢.
Play with a brand new vehicle and stuff like this happens. Never understood why people spend so much money just to mess their vehicles up with bs alterations. Contrary to what some will say, vehicles are an investment and need to be treated that way. I wish you luck in getting it fixed back to factory.
You will prob have problems with all the components removed and put back on. Usually these plastic parts don't like to be removed and replaced, even when you are careful. They will eventually make noise or fall apart earlier than usual. Good luck on the new truck and the color is amazing.
You definitely got got. You need to out this shop. It is unsat. They screwed up and molested a brand new vehicle. I would have been livid. This reason alone is why I would not trust any wrap shop. So unfortunate they have blemished your vehicle experience. I took my 4Runner to an official xpel shop and got my 4Runner fully done in ppf. They don't have to take panels off and most of the pieces are precut. Then I put a ceramic coat over the ppf. I have a limerush Pro and it looks brand new and glossy, washing it every few months is a breeze, no scratches, rock chips or swirls.
The pin stripping i hear is done at the dealership...or contracted to someone to do it at the dealership. Yes your 4runner is ruined. Id trade it in for a 2024.
It was a guy contracted to install, he was nice enough to come out and remove it. For the record, he thought it looked ugly as well. At least 2024 is still safe from powertrain changes, get it while you can.
If there's anything I've learned, just leave vehicles stock and don't do upgrades that are not practical. Sorry you had such a bad experience with all that.
Nice color! Sorry they did a poor job. If I ever get a 4Runner, first thing I'd do is install a Magnuson supercharger. Then maybe Borla exhaust. Pricey items, but well worth the coin.
They make a tune for the 4runner. Just gotta find someone to install it. I had a 16 and i regeared it when i got 285/75R17’s. It was good on mountain hilly roads.
Thanks for sharing! Did you come to an agreement with the shop to at least give you a partial refund? This would be such a disappointment seeing you car damaged so badly after paying that much money for a wrap. Also, why did you decide not to mention the name of the shop? Let us know so that we don't fall in the same trap!
Thanks for the comment! We're working on resolution for some of the issues, so we didn't want to call out the name specifically. If you're not in the Metro Detroit area, you're safe (from this shop at least)!
They did get us new flares, but.... They painted them plain black vs. the correct Midnight Metallic, unless they thought all the foreign material dusted across the surface was metallic flake 🤦🏽♀️
You should of sued them for damages unless you signed a waiver. I don't understand how you guys would allow such damage to your vehicle without seeking compensation of some sort, looks like you have plenty of evidence to support a claim. What I would do is go to to Toyota and make a of list all parts damaged and have them pay where damage was done. But like I said this will not matter if you signed a waiver of some sort but if not they would be liable.
You guys had a great vehicle but the wrapping ruined a lot of OEM stuff. It’s going to cost you more to fix now. Best advice to anyone is DO NOT WRAP YOUR CAR.
I'm sorry you got a ruined 4Runner. I don't allow dealership to install anything. Even for the tint jobs dealership use cheapest non dealership contractors. None of my 4Runners have any of them, not even a tint. Wrap is a big fat no to my cars. If the trail looks like gonna give too many scratches I turn back, go home. As for the mods, light at the top would be the worst, it will reduce visibility. As for winch you will be looking at modifying springs which would impact the ride quality. Spend sometime around 4Runner YT / forums. In 4Runner world mods are mostly for needs vs looks. Wish you the best fixing the problems as much as possible and get to enjoy the 4Runner.
Isn’t this current generation from 2010, but also a heavily refreshed version of the model before it from like 2002? Making this one in the video essentially 13-20 years old.
I mean yea IG but it had its fair share of refreshes. The interior got updated with a new display, and A-Trac got replaced, but thats it. Refreshes non the less. I think the new 6th gen will look a lot like either the new Tacoma or the Sequia with a turbod v6@@rustlesee
Smh 🤦♂️ take this video down it makes me angry to see a brand new 4 runner loose it’s essence, the ugly pin stripes I hope to god your not talking about the special edition pin stripes, not the smartest people I seen on the internet
Yeah, they were some "ugly" yellow, orange to red stripes down the side. We had to paint over goofy bronze wheels and badges too.. Joking of course, they were dealer installed pin stripes. If you define the "essence" of the 4 runner as the exterior color or the interior/exterior trim issues that the wrap shop caused, then I think we'll agree to disagree. Never the less, thanks for watching and providing feedback! Stay Cool! (that's an HVAC joke... 🤣)
You seem like a very nice person, and I'm sorry to see what's been done to your beautiful new 4Runner, but why would you ever change the stock color from the renowned Tahara factory in Japan to a "wrap"?! You do realize by doing this, you've greatly diminished the resale value of the vehicle, not to mention all these problems that you pointing out in this video. Until seeing this video, I didn't even realize this was an option to do to vehicles. Best of luck going forward.
@@inttruders in the states, mostly yes, it's been a noticeable trend for the past 5-10 years. Before that everyone was anti Japanese vehicle and pro American. No other state has more sales for these vehicles than here and it's been that way forever here since our large Japanese population have always supported them and everyone else saw how reliable they were.
The nitrogen scam!!!! How can dealers get away with this BS?? Lack of regulation right there. The big thing here is you allowed yourself to get scammed 4-5k on GPS, Edge guard and nitrogen! Emerald for the name? Maybe Forrest , Diode Dynamics fog lights, light bar with the 3-4 orange lights above the Toyota bar below the hood
You will prob have problems with all the components removed and put back on. Usually these plastic parts don't like to be removed and replaced, even when you are careful. They will eventually make noise or fall apart earlier than usual. Good luck on the new truck and the color is amazing.
So what was the original color on your rig?
Thank you for the question, it was Midnight Black Metallic.
Gorgeous color!! You should send a pic to Toyota.
How much? Been looking for trd pro
Besides the wrap we love it so far! It was around 60K out the door.
Which wrap is this?
Agreed. She's far too kind to not name and shame!
What the company’s name ? I would take it to another shop and fix the issue and send them the bill!!
My gut feeling is when that wrap comes off you’re going to find some more, painful damage
4runners are meant to be abused and to be off-road. Why bother to wrap it?
Respectfully disagree...vehicles should be used, but NOT abused.
As long as you don't m.ind paying for high octane gasoline required for the super charger.
That shop needs to buy you guys new fenders flares. Those are held on by clips and double side tape.
They did get us new flares, but.... They painted them plain black vs. the correct Midnight Metallic, unless they thought all the foreign material dusted across the surface was metallic flake 🤦🏽♀️
I like your 4runner 😊
What a nightmare! 🥺🥺
Love it ❤️💪💪
Basically, you have paid the premium for their marketing budget. Sorry to hear about that.
I’m surprised the tint is Legal
You should of sued them for damages unless you signed a waiver. I don't understand how you guys would allow such damage to your vehicle without seeking compensation of some sort, looks like you have plenty of evidence to support a claim. What I would do is go to to Toyota and make a of list all parts damaged and have them pay where damage was done. But like I said this will not matter if you signed a waiver of some sort but if not they would be liable.
They should give back 50% of your money for the wrap job
You guys had a great vehicle but the wrapping ruined a lot of OEM stuff. It’s going to cost you more to fix now. Best advice to anyone is DO NOT WRAP YOUR CAR.
I agree…me don’t ever touch my 4Runner 😅
I’m sorry that sucks😢
Thank you for the great feedback! We'll be checking out your channel, just subscribed! 👍
@@hardnoxperformance Thank you. I bet you will love the video that will be published this Christmas. Hint- Something you can do to the TRD Pro. 😁😁
Nonstop complaints and the dealer and you still bought? You deserve the headache at that point.
It all.your fault. You damaged the new truck. No one buys an off rode truck for the color .
Takes for ever to get into the story.
Agreed.. We pinned the timestamp in the comments. In hindsight we should have just talked about the wrap, no background.
WTF! You saved for years to spend high 50÷ grand on a 4runner trd pro. Just to put a shitty wrap on it. I wouldn't wrap a fucking a Toyota Corolla.
This is not 2023 TRD Pro, only 2020 TRD Pro Army Green. 2023 Don't have Army Green TRD Pro if Im correct .
Nitrogen in the tires 😂
Honestly, if I was you I would sue them!
the 6th gen literally just got confirmed for 2025 lol.
Isn’t this current generation from 2010, but also a heavily refreshed version of the model before it from like 2002? Making this one in the video essentially 13-20 years old.
13-20 years of Reliability 😊
I mean yea IG but it had its fair share of refreshes. The interior got updated with a new display, and A-Trac got replaced, but thats it. Refreshes non the less. I think the new 6th gen will look a lot like either the new Tacoma or the Sequia with a turbod v6@@rustlesee
They rated themself, not the people.
You get what you paid for. Lol
I would ask for 50% of money back. What a poor job they did
If you realy wanted the green color you could've just got any other green suv .
That exhaust drone is so bad.
Hahahaha I see her getting more and more and more angry as she talks about the wrap shop. Also just sue
Tell me about, it was getting tough to keep it "professional"
can you sue
So you went to a shitty wrap company
You seem like a very nice person, and I'm sorry to see what's been done to your beautiful new 4Runner, but why would you ever change the stock color from the renowned Tahara factory in Japan to a "wrap"?! You do realize by doing this, you've greatly diminished the resale value of the vehicle, not to mention all these problems that you pointing out in this video. Until seeing this video, I didn't even realize this was an option to do to vehicles. Best of luck going forward.
Thank you for the comment, luckily all of the damage is cosmetic and I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off 😊
@@hardnoxperformance However, It is a very nice shade of green. Happy Holidays!
4runner need a V8
You Must be a treat to live with Nag Complain Criticize no one forced you to purchase the vehicle ..
Funny how people in the states are all of a sudden toyota experts when we've been running toyotas hard for the past 30 years in hawaii lol.
Tell me you didn’t watch the video without telling me you didn’t watch the video 😂
@@hardnoxperformance I watched enough to 🤦🏽♂️. Then I set it to never recommend your channel again 😃
@@malaihiboi
Bye 👋🏻
You think people outside of Hawaii just learned about Toyotas? You need to get out of your bubble.
@@inttruders in the states, mostly yes, it's been a noticeable trend for the past 5-10 years. Before that everyone was anti Japanese vehicle and pro American. Then people learned about the reliability of tacomas and 4runners mostly from seeing how much they're beaten here via forums and social media. No other state has more sales for these vehicles than here and it's been that way forever here since our large Japanese population have always supported them and everyone else saw how reliable they were.
Lawer up
Talk too slow.. not enough of attention span to watch the full video
A lot can happen in 3000 miles. So wrap nightmare not 4 runner. Crap video stop making them
Damn !! That wrap job is crazy!!!! - for that much money of the car and money for the wrap, hope you got your money back - ALSO YALL need IG
The nitrogen scam!!!! How can dealers get away with this BS?? Lack of regulation right there. The big thing here is you allowed yourself to get scammed 4-5k on GPS, Edge guard and nitrogen! That is insane. Why would you pay that extra??? You have yourself to blame. The dealer walked all over you and you and your husband allowed it to happen.
Great point! Im blaming my husband! 🤣
Wow... Husband here, thanks for throwing me under the bus 😆.. I do agree with you though, all the crap the dealers add is a scam. Unfortunately the dealers don't wheel and deal when they have a list of people looking to buy the TRD Pro. It's what she wanted, and I spend enough on tools to not say no. On the plus side, with the GPS it can never get lost in a parking lot 🤣🤣
@@RLArtistrythe GPS is not what it’s intended to do. Dealers give you a line of BS but it’s really for locating your vehicle when you miss your car payments. Easier to repo.
That’s some bs right there I’d be pissed 😤
