My son bought a 2020 Ford Ecosport new at our Ford dealer for about $21,000. It’s been an awesome car for him, replaced a 2001 Mazda 626. With this little car he gets to work and back in the snowiest, iciest and coldest weather with never a problem. Not a lot of miles on it yet, less than 20k, but it’s been a great car for him.

I bought a low miles used 2018 Titanium for 18K and I love it. It is one tough little vehicle. Tows 2K pounds. Super easy to live with and unique. I heard it was made in Chennai India for the India and Brazil market. That is why it has that foreign look. It's a great little go anywhere car.

The good thing about that SUV is that if there are no parking spaces you can fold it down and put it in your back pocket. The bad thing, if you crash the front bumper you will need to replace the back bumper too. As always, excellent review. 👍

It greatly outperformed the Buick Encore AND a much better price (+/- 20K out the door), so I bought it. Very contented. I test drove over 3 dozen cars before I made my purchase... The ecosport was not only the most fun to drive (I'm a chauffeur), it was by far the best value in terms of price and insurance. And very roomy for how small it is as well as great view windows and (very importantly) other cars don't like to crowd me on the road.

Here's a quick summarized review, from someone who owns a 2018 EcoSport Titanium 4WD. Unpopular opinion is I like it. However, cons:
    1. I'd prefer a traditional lift gate
    2. No spare
    3. BLIS is nice, but would prefer more safety features along those lines
    4. On the Titanium, the center arm rests slides forward, but I wish it would slide further. I understand why, because of the placement of the cupholders, but it would be nice.
    5. Other than the Cold Weather Package on the 2018s, it's fully loaded. But why does a fully loaded vehicle not have fully LED headlamps?
    6. Larger fuel tank would be nice(currently ~13 gallons)
7(this one is iffy). I like having the Intelligent 4WD, but I would personally prefer a true 4wd, that I can engage on command. But again, I do still like having the Intelligent 4WD, cause I don't need to worry about remembering to engage it.
    And now, the Pros:
    1. The price. I didn't want a sedan/hatchback, but it was a great price, for a small SUV.
    2. The size. Great maneuvering and parking.
    3. The 4 cylinder isn't the fastest motor, but it's pretty zippy, especially in sport mode.
    4. Basic interior layout
    5. Good visibility
    6. Low stance makes it easy to load/unload stuff
    7. There's leather where I need it, and no leather where I don't. (Personally I feel I only need leather on the seats/steering wheel/where I rest my arms
    8. I can comfortably fit me, my girlfriend, and her two friends in the car when I visit her at college(pre COVID), as well as still fit my suitcase and other stuff if I'm staying the weekend.
    9. The ability to change the height of the load floor behind the back seat.
Look, it's not a perfect vehicle. And I can see how certain things(such as 2, 3, and 5 under 'Cons') would be deal breakers. But there are other things that, like any vehicle, are just trivial little things. The car isn't for everyone, not everyone needs(nor should have) a "0-60 in under 4 seconds" car. My girlfriend and I(she has the same car, just an SE instead of Titanium) love our cars. She can fit all her stuff in it when she's coming home from college, and it gets me to/from work/school. It fits our lifestyle, and if it fits yours, then you'll love it. If you don't like it, it's not a "piece of ****", or anything like that. It's just simply not for you, just like any other vehicle.
Also, at 5:40, the 8" screen has been around since it's introduction in 2018, just it became standard. Before it was optional on the SE trim

The Ecosport is perfect for driving around European city streets. US highways, not so much. If you're looking for a city commuter, the Ecosport is fine. Highways are OK, but passing and merging require a lot of space and thought (and prayers) It does have a nice ride and a surprising amount of room for such a small vehicle. We actually sell quite a lot of these little roller skates on our lot. 99% of the buyers are older adults/elderly. They seem quite content with the Ecosport, so maybe that's why Ford brought this to the US, because I can't think of any other reason.

  • @shaesham
    @shaesham 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I’m sure when I see one in person its probably just tiny but based on this video it does remarkable things with the interior space. You can fit four adults comfortably and also there is still cargo space. On the outside it seems like it would have zero cargo space.

I couldn't live without adaptive cruise control in the city (Uber driver) and Doug Demuro agrees, it is the best feature for all the driving we do. It takes 5 times the work out of driving and puts it into eagle eye cameras that tell you if they are functioning or too covered in ice and then not to rely on it. I am shopping for my girlfriends first car and she won't look at anything but a Toyota Corolla (now made in Mexico) and I sent her a Chevy Cruze diesel to consider. I would say Hyundai Kia are the best buy options with standard ACC on the base sonata. I personally would only go full Electric after having a plug in hybrid and my top brands are 1. Toyota, VW (big boys) 2. Tesla, Hyundai/Kia (experimental), 3. Ford (Truck), stay away from FCA, Nissan, anyone else Scotty Kilmer says. I am waiting to see what the Honda Legend level 3 driving has to offer, similar to what Raiti suggested (with a twist)

Honestly I think this is fine for the price. Here in Maine you can get a brand new 2021 SE for 22,000. Thats with the 4wd though. I think that is a plenty good price for what you get. Sure the Kia Soul might have more features, but it doesnt have the 4WD. A hyundai Kona would be good, but that transmission is prone to overheating if you stress the awd. I find the lack of speed thing interesting because a subaru crosstrek is about as quick as this thing WITH a CVT and yet people applaud it. I would much rather have something like this.

I was given an Ecosport as a loaner last year and became interested in it enough to do a little research on it. The larger available engine is not turbocharged and is not significantly faster or economical. As small as it is, it has no advantage of gas economy over many of its larger brethren. The main advantage of the Ecosport is price. BTW, other competitors (size-wise) include the Chevy Trax, the Buick Encore, and maybe the Jeep Renegade.

Thanks for this review. In my small town we are limited to just a Ford and Chevy dealership. Anything else is a 45 minute drive away in a larger town and I don't want to have to go through that if I need warranty service. We're looking for a cheap around town commuter car and I think this will fit the bill pretty well. There's a $5,000 rebate on the SE so I've already gotten a price from them of $19,000 for one optioned like the one in the video. Not bad. Yeah, I know its not the latest and greatest, but it'll serve the purpose if we choose to go that route (and the only other small SUV options in town is a Chevy Trax or Chevy Trailblazer).

Just saw a neighbor parked nearby. 4wheel drive SE or something. Looks cool. I drive a 2017 VW Tiguan Wolfsburg. A little bigger of a car, but a total ripoff for what you get. Good car don’t get me wrong. Kind of quick for what it is, but no remote start, crap gas mileage, no climate control, one power seat for the driver, no auto open tailgate, etc and it was near 40k. My 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk had more going for it and it was less money. Not as comfortable a ride, but it too was peppy with the speed for what it is, just bouncy like a regular Jeep, but it was a fun car regardless.
I miss my Mustang GT premium convertible. I won’t get one again, but I did well on that car. The trade in on it was amazing, I put 70k miles on it and on the trade it was like I only spent 6 or 7k$ for the pleasure. It was an 2008, so it wasn’t sick fast but it was fast, it was more that it sounded awesome. Badass exhaust, made that popping sound too, might have been aftermarket I bought it preowned with maybe 20k miles. But it’s just not practical as a daily driver.

Everyone take a look at 3:25. Look what's wrong with this picture. The lower rubber bumpers in the rear license plate section are TOO HIGH. The lower rubber bumpers will not slide in to the lower holes of any North American license plate or license plate frame (if a frame is used). WTH? I did some checking: apparently Ford intended for this stupid design. This IS the rear hatch intended for North America, not for other parts of the world. Ford issued a TSB in 2018 explaining the change: not making the lower bumpers line up properly. Ford claims "the lower rubber bumpers suspend the license plate away from the swinggate painted surface and are not visible in lower holes that may be present in the license plate being installed." This was a very dumb decision by Ford IMO. Your license plate rests on an angle, and the plate is not perpendicular to the ground. Also, because the bottom half of the license plate is NOT ATTACHED ANYWHERE to the EcoSport, vandals can easily bend the plate up. This could also cause the plate to vibrate and shake because the plate is not securely attached to the EcoSport. Does anyone know how to correct this without drilling new holes thru the metal? (which is certainly going to rust over time)
