My favorite true crime book is Helter Skelter. I'm all into horror, nothing phases me on the page or the screen, but this book made me paranoid. So that's a winner to me!

It’s so weird, I read so much horror and true crime, have listened to everything to do with the Manson murders etc. but I’ve tried twice to read this book in the past and I get to the same place (Abigail Folger) and I just can’t read anymore. You’re right the book just makes you paranoid and gets under your skin. I’m determined to fully read it in the future though as I do own it lol Wish me luck.

@@jadehicks3584 Good luck! It's a good book but it freaked me out, which is hard to do.

Victim F has been on my radar for a while. I really need to read it - it sounds so interesting in a bonkers kind of way.

I put the Bundy books on my TBR

I still need to listen to Ted Bundy: Conversations with a Killer, and now I want to read Unmasked: My Life Solving America's Cold Cases and The Phantom Prince.
In terms of a true crime book you might enjoy, if you have not read it, you might find The Serial Killer's Apprentice interesting. This is a true crime case that does not get talked about much, and that is kind of shocking to me, because Dean Corll, the "Candy Man killer", was more prolific than some of the high-profile serial killers, and he had two young accomplices.

Definitely been in a true crime mood recently when it comes to my reading! I've read a few of these but am definitely interested in checking out Conversations with a Killer, sounds very intense. If you haven't read them already Under the Banner of Heaven, People Who Eat Darkness, American Predator, Say Nothing, they are all good yet very different true crime books!!! 🕵

My grandma watched the Ted Bundy trial with a lot of interest. I remember asking her why she was so interested in the coverage and apparently Ted had asked her on a date. Thankfully she said no because she thought he was weird. My grandma definitely fit his "type."

Wow, I’ve always been interested in Bundy because I was the same age group, and type he was targeting. So glad I never came across him & that your Grandma said No!

There was a Netflix doc about Chris Watt and they kinda framed the victims the same way, at least Shannan.

Well, banana pants crazy should be the official rating system for crazy 🤪
Also, that is the allure of Ted Bundy. I think he is the reason a lot of behavioural analysis was focused on. Being able to find chameleons

I ready every single book mentioned, except Ted Bundy Conversations. Victim F and Phantom Prince were my favorites. Unmasked was good too. Ann Rule, not as much.

    • @TheShadesofOrange
      @TheShadesofOrange  หลายเดือนก่อน

I feel like Ann Rule got popular from her insanely close connection to Bundy. It was an interesting perspective but not my favourite writing or narrative presentation

for those who don't know much abut the ted bundy case but are interested in learning more I recommend The Only Living Witness. It was one of the first books that attempted to give a comprehensive look at bundy's crimes and the possible reasons behind them. I was also a big fan of ann rule and her crime author alter ego andy stack though admittedly her early closeness to bundy may have affected her judgement.⚛😀

I actually picked up Victim F because you mentioned it in one of your previous videos. It is indeed bonkers and yes, I also had to google if it really went down how it was described. The mind boggles...
Some of TC books that stuck with me:
People Who Eat Darkness by Richard Lloyd Parry- it is fascinating on so many levels. I would say it focused on eh victim and her friends and family just as much as it focused on cold disregard of the killer, but mostly it focuses on Japan, the social and cultural differences and peculiarities, the administration and process... A multilayered story.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt - classic for a reason. I have thing with stories with a strong sense of place and by god, this one is. It is a unique offering in the genre because, it's more memorable for the eccentric characters depicted to convey the vibe of the town and the times than for the crime story revolves around.
The Snakehead by Patrick Radden Keefe- I know he catapulted to cult status with Say Nothing, but I liked everything I've read by him.
