Lol about ‘the one with Kenneth Branagh’ because I’m pretty sure he’s adapted almost all of Shakespeare’s plays into films. Really ties into all Shakespeare blurring into one for you. I loved his Much Ado About Nothing.
Fun video! I’m interested to see what you think of the new Ruth Ware.

I’m usually okay with dual timelines but The Villa was tough. The past timeline was just so much more fun and really saved the book. I would dread whenever it flipped back to present day. It’s hard when you’re competing with moody rockstars.

i read murder your employer and honestly, it was SO much fun. i felt like it really played with the mystery/thriller genre and was really different from anything else i’ve read so i definitely enjoyed it. i highly recommend the audiobook narrated by neil patrick harris! i read the golden spoon and liked it! i think if you go in ready to have a good time then you'll enjoy it
i’m a huge shakespeare girlie and i got an arc of the death i gave him that i’m hoping to read next week. i’m so excited for it, it has many of my buzzwords!. i'm super excited to read a very lively murder, i loved the three dahlias!

I loved The Golden Spoon. Some people who didn’t like it expected it to be a thriller, which it is not. Your expectations are much closer to to the fun time that awaits.
I am so excited for the new Richard Osman. I wish the Anthony Horowitz would write another one in the Magpie Murders series.

I own many of these and others are now going on my TBR -- murder mystery -- the classics -- and some that have relation to them are among my favourites to read too. Which is why I love your channel. I am just reading Murder in the Family by Cara Hunter -- that is a 2023 one that I think you would enjoy -- it has great mixed media elements like the Janice Hallett books. Have you read Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson from 2022? I gave that one 5 stars -- if you love a murder mystery and lots of references to all the classic tropes -- it is a great one -- highly recommend it.

I liked The Golden Spoon, but it's more of a character driven mystery. I wouldn't call it a cozy mystery, but it has the vibes. It's more of a character driven story with a mystery element to it if that makes sense.

“What’s the one where there’s a film with Kenneth Branagh?”
All of them. Practically all of the Shakespeare plays have that. 😂 But it was probably, most likely, either Othello (which has one of the only Black characters in Shakespeare), Hamlet (takes place mostly in a big mansion/castle), or maybe Henry V (lots of war). Those are more taught in schools.

So true, we do not get enough Agatha Christie style mysteries anymore, unfortunately. The McMasters Guide to Homicide is worth giving a try for the title alone though. The Golden Spoon is on my TBR. On a side note I highly recommend the show Crime Scene Kitchen-CSI and a bake off show had a beautiful baby. 😉 A Death in the Parish sounds right up my alley. (Anything like a Marple or Midsommer Murder and I'm in) I got it. I loved One by One. It was definitely my favorite from Ware; otherwise, she's really a mixed bag for me. So excited for The Last Devil to Die. I've already got plans for the day it comes out.

I don’t know if you’ve read Dial A For Aunties by Jessie Sutanto, but it was marketed as a murder mystery and read more like a contemporary fiction with madcap humor. I actually loved it, but it was a more Weekend at Bernie’s than murder mystery. I haven’t read her newest book, but I think it’s important to go into it with the understanding that marketing doesn’t always do her books correctly to avoid disappointment.

This Book Kills was really good! I was a bit surprised at how it turned out, having guessed some but not all of the motives and perpetrator(s). I'd consider it a quick, slightly thrillerly cozyish mystery.
I did read The Golden Spoon in one day - its a cozy murder mystery - not too deep, but enjoyable!
I read The Three Dahlias after you recommended it (I heard no one else talk about it) - and I can't wait for the sequel!!
Thanks for the new recommendations! I love mysteries and thrillers, and you always give great recommendations!

You should try the Amory Ames series by Ashley Weaver, there are 7 books and I adore the main character so much.
Also the Saffron Everleigh series by Kate Khavari, which starts with a botanists guide to poison and parties is incredible, the main character is a female botanist in University College in London in the 1920s so she’s logical and observant and her love interest is everything

Interesting! I just Found by chance on amazon kindle this book, nice surprise; Murder on Deck 9 by Lorenzo Pagani:
This is a classic murder mystery in the old school "Agatha Christie" sense. The author does a great job of pulling you in, keeping the pages turning even as your mind is simultaneously processing the new information and trying to figure out "whodunnit?" The Swiss detective remembered me a lot Poirot!🥸🚢
