    I've been a fan of True Crime since I was 13, which is about 35 years ago now, and my favourite True Crime author is Ann Rule. I find she tries to show the facts and tries to show both sides of the story. I love her books, and it's so sad that she has passed away.

      If you pick up True Crime Addict, consider the audio version. The author actually narrates and he does a great job. It really draws you in and I could not stop listening. Definitely one of the favorites I have listened to this year.

    Haven’t heard of Michael Phelps so I appreciate your mention of him. True Crime Addict was quite good, I agree.
    A follow up for other true crime would be very appreciated.

      I want to check out more by Michel Phelps. Hopefully I can put out another True Crime recommendations later this year. I'm still looking for a few more really good ones, before I compile my list.

    I'll definitely be in search for "I'll be gone in the dark" I love when a book (fiction non fiction) can give me that uneasy feeling especially in the comforts of my own home. Thanks for the recommendation!🖤

    If you're into serial killers, anything by John Douglass is amazing. He was one of the first criminal profilers for the FBI and helped hunt down and interviewed various serial killers. I've read that he was used as a reference for Crawford/Clarice/Will Graham in the various Silence of the Lambs books/movies/shows.

    This video is just what I need. True Crime does interest me and I have tried a couple of True Crime books recently but I have really struggled with both. I think that the problem that I had with both of them was that the authors gave a biography of each of the victims. I understand that the author was trying to take focus away from the killer and concentrate on the victims and their story, I hope that I don’t sound harsh when I say what toys the victims got for Christmas as a child doesn’t interest me. I like to know about the victims but not in such minute detail. I am interested in the evidence, police procedures, potential suspects and the families fighting for justice. I am really tempted with I’ll be gone in the dark. I might get it on audiobook as I have so many books to read for review at the moment.

    • @TheShadesofOrange
      @TheShadesofOrange  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely understand. I also find a lot of true crime books too long/too dense and often focus on the mundane detail.
      I hope you check out some of these books because they all read like fiction.

    JonBenet Ramsey, The Great American Tragedy, is an amazing book on the death of a young girl, and how no one has ever been convicted of any crime relating to what happened.

    Have you listened to Frozen Truth podcast yet? It is a case of a woman who just disappeared. Her car was found on the side of the road too.

    • @TheShadesofOrange
      @TheShadesofOrange  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've started it, but I'm only a few episodes in. It's so good so far! The case reminds me a bit of Maura Murray's story because that was also a disappearance. I'm fascinated by missing person cases.

    I liked both True Crime Addict and I'll Be Gone in the Dark but didn't love them...the former came across as a real slimeball and the latter was a bit too messy. I think I'm in the minority though because they both have great ratings!

    • @TheShadesofOrange
      @TheShadesofOrange  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I also thought that I'll Be Gone in the Dark needed more editing. Michael Phelps is quite likeable so you might really like Dangerous Grounds.
      I enjoyed Jame Renners' perspective, but I know a lot of people didn't get along with him.

    I don't read much true crime, but, I loved reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. This isn't a new book and it has been made into a movie. Twice that I know of. The 1st movie was made sometime in the 60s and it follows the book quite well. The 2nd movie is somewhat newer, but, not nearly as good. Although, it to follows the book. I'm guessing that you haven't read this one as I believe that if you had, it just might be in your list. Although, I'm not a very good judge what what is a good starting place for recommending.
