Thank you so much for watching!!!!!
It's great to hear the "why" for why the humidity is important at the lockdown. Instead of just "do this" the why can certainly help their understanding.
It is always easier once you understand the why…..
Thank you for taking the time to educate us. It is very appreciated
Thanks for watching and good luck
Thanks for the curled neck and toes comments. I had the experience.
Glad it helped
I needed to hear this ☺️ thank you for the information
Glad it helped. Good luck
Now I know why we lost quite a bit of my hatching rates. Many of my eggs had fully formed chicks that failed to hatch. We manage to save one. Need to get a better incubator
Get that humidity up and that will help a lot.
Very timely video, Zach, thank-you! I'm having a heck of a time here in mid Missouri, keeping the humidity level steady. Our weather has fluctuated from 30's to 80's to 20's ever since I got my Pearl eggs from you. My humidity has bounced around like crazy and had me so upset. I've settled down listening to what you've explained. Once they go into lockdown, it ill be much easier to keep it high, with both tubes of my Nuture 360, filled with water. Thanks again.
Good luck
Thanks for the info.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for these vids! I've been struggling with hatching chickens but the troubleshooting definitely crosses over. Especially the second meters being required.
Glad we could help
Very nice! Thank you!!
Thanks for watching.
@@MyshireFarm 👍🏻👍🏻
If the humidity softens the shell during lockdown, why doesn't boiling the egg soften the shell? I'm not sure that is correct. I am pretty sure the humidity seeps into the egg softening the membrane, allowing the chick to rip through it more easily. The shell cannot get softer unless you dissolve it in vinegar. Humidity cannot, will not, will never soften an egg shell. Not everyone is perfect and i still love all the info you provide. Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us.
Much easier to explain by “softening the shell”
We had a bad hatch !!! Thank you !
Hope this helps
Goood afternoon Myshire farm
Welcome and thanks for watching
Hi Zack. Bought the Govee twin pack that you suggested. My incubator is a full 2* off, 100-100.5 on Govee registers needs a setting of 102.5 (farm inv. 4250). 1/3 hatch rate with most fully developed but not hatched, believe it was a suffocation issue after watching your video, thank you for helping me figure it out. Why I write is that I had both Govee’s in incubator at opposite corners & they would sometimes be as much as 5* off with humidity being almost the same, what was happening? Placed at opposite end of motor (LL & UR). Can you tell me? They read identical when sitting side by side before used in incubator. Again working with chicken eggs before purchasing quail from you. This was my first attempt. Thank you! Marc GB
That usually means a circulation issue if you insulate your incubator with a blanket that should help a lot
This seems hard. Waiting for my quail order and hoping for the best
Good luck and don’t over think it
Hi Zach thank you for video. My current problem is they have stopped developing and are really liquid inside at the end of hatch? Is this a heat or humidity issue?
Usually that means that it is an insulation issue. A fluctuation in temp
Can you open the incubator to put a couple of wet sponge pieces in during lock down to keep the humidity up? I live in a dry high desert area.
Yes that is not a problem
Hi Zach, So I'm trying to figure out what my true temp and humidity is in my incubator, I don't know how you know which is correct. The incubator says temp is 100 and the thermometer I have testing it inside says 96, how do I know which is right?
I never trust the incubators
I have the little giant and it was sitting at 13% humidity with inside separate thermostats and hydrometers but when I added water it jumped to 80%. I’m not putting in eggs yet but how do I draw the humidity out? I live in northern Indiana
Do a dry hatch meaning do not add water until lockdown and then increase it to 75%
Hello do I have to close the scavenge ports of my incubator during lockdown so tha I don’t lose humidity?
Yes
What is the recommend humidity for lockdown period ? 90 F wet bulb thermometer?
99.5 degrees and 75% humidity
I used 3 kinds of thermometers apart from the thermostat itself and 2 of those are digital and from my experience digital thermometers are trash and is inaccurate. Get the mercury ones they dont lie for hygrometers get analogs.
Mercury is a solid, reliable source
If you have an incubator and have the wells at capacity for water but cannot get the humidity up over 58%, what do you suggest to increase during lockdown?
You can add a bowl with a sponge and water and that would help
This is my first time with incubator and we are on day 1. We are trying to hatch mini chickens. The humidity is 74 and we took out water last night but the humidity still hasn’t gone down. How do we get humidity down?
You can take a syringe and take the water out that way
Hi. I looked at your video and definitely had humidity issues as I had chicks that could not break through and one with curled toes that eventually died. I kept all water channels filled during lockdown and kept the incubator closed. How else can I increase humidity during this period?
@@MyshireFarm Won't the chicks peck on the sponge?
@@charlesbalkaran It would be ok if they did.
Why did NONE of my eggs hatch? NOTHING hatched. My eggs were shipped USPS, a different company being the supplier. A previous company sent me 36 eggs and 11 hatched. I have multiple "thermometers" including 3 of the one you recommend. They ALL read differently and the fan appears to be normal. The highest I can get my humidity is 65% (according to the built in hygrometer).
Maybe add a Little Tupperware bowl with water and put a sponge in there to help increase your humidity. It sounds like you are trouble shooting well. I would take a few out and candle or break open and see what the development looks like. If developed and did not hatch 100% humidity. If not developed then either temp, shipping or not fertile.
@@MyshireFarm Thanks for the suggestions. I finally had one hatch since. I will give it a couple of days to see what happens. I already place a small bowl/sponge when I started lockdown. I will candle Thursday morning and try to get to the bottom of this. I will alsoi build a larger incubator in the near future. Thanks and God bless you guys.
What is the best incubator
We have a playlist called quail product reviews and in there we have done 3 incubator reviews and in the middle of the next one.
I have problems with my incubator humidity is all was high 97
That would drowns the eggs
which temperature of humidity of incubator is likely to be when only 7 days left
99.5 degrees and 35% humidity
what is the humidity for Bob white... is it the same
I am not familiar with Bob whites
What happens when my incubator humidity is always between 65 and when its low on water i add water and it raises humidity to 71%?
Could be a circulation issue or try wrapping it with a towel and see if insulating it a little more ales it more stable
@MyshireFarm could it be that the room i have the Incubator in gets hot? Before summer it was good no problem but it started to get warmer and that's where i noticed the humidity rises even if i add a lil bit of water
@@Bienbelicado Anytime you add water, your humidity will rise. That is what humidity is, water. adding it, will add to the percentage. If your reading 70%, you need to vent it out. If your box has no vents, put a small straw in the door or cover. This will lower the humidity while keeping temps correct. Try not using water at all, until lockdown.
Hello sir how are you.
I'm from Pakistan i have this humidity issue I'm trying to increase humidity in myself made incubator last 2 days but i failed to increase my HTC hydrometer showing 36%
I responded to the other comment
Sir can you please suggest me any idea how can I increase humidity in my incubator, by the way i have 5 trays of water already in my incubator
A bowl with water and a sponge in it.
@@MyshireFarm Thank you very much for reading my comment and replying to me sir, I was actually worried that this video is from a few years ago and I don't know if you will reply to it or not but you surprised me.
@@MyshireFarm may Allah bless you.
the water in incubator should be warmer or cooled?
Room temp
That depends on how big the incubator is. Adding cold or room temperature water will lower the overall temp of the box. This is why cooks allow food to cool before refrigerating. Not so the food doesn't go bad, but so the refrigerator keeps temp. For smaller incubators, room temp is fine. If you put 65 degree water in a large 100 degree box, the temp can be lowered by up to 10 degrees and could take hours before the unit can heat up the water to 100. The Delta temp of the room and the incubator is also a pretty big variable. I try and use a water temp that matches the temp of my incubator.
Can you help a drowning chick? I had too high humidity and I have 3 days left, can I help them get out before they drown?
It is up to you. I don’t recommend helping chicks out of the shell as they usually don’t make it
My humidity is stuck 70%_80% haven't put much water in it going to put a sponge in might help
You don’t want the humidity to go above 80% putting a sponge in will increase it
@@MyshireFarm oh thought that would soak the water up lol. I got it back down again to 30%/40% il have to just keep low water in. Need new incubator probably slash out on a brinsea.
@@cathalmire If you are in an area with a humidity higher than 20%, you do not need to add water until lockdown. This is called dry hatching. Just check your local weather. Your altitude also plays a huge roll. Your lockdown humidity at sea level will be much lower than at 10,000 ft.
@@ZeginMakesMusic thanks, i bought the lumia 8 its brilliant
So is Govee calibrated out of the box ?
Yes it is
I can not seem to keep my humidity down under 70 I’m freaking out
During incubation don’t add any water and don’t worry about humidity and then at lockdown increase to 75%
@@MyshireFarm for ducks to or just chickens?
When will you have some Jumbo Coturnix Quail eggs.
January 1st
Stop turning in day 15? But everyone says day 18
No you stop at 15, they hatch day 16-18 maybe a little longer
if humidity is 71 degrees what's going to happen
Some could get stuck in shell and not be strong enough to hatch out
Pᵣₒmₒˢᵐ 🤔
I don’t know what that means I am sorry
Ugh, I'm so done with the hat
I don’t know what that means
