    Always good advice Zach. One thing I would add is that moving them to a new environment is stressful for them so that will cause them to shut down on egg production as well.

      Absolutely I can not believe I forgot to mention that. Thank you……

      This happened to me. We moved them from a cage system to an A Frame coop. It's been about 4 days and I havnt got an egg the past 2 days. How long does the laying usually stop for? Hoping it's temporary 😬

      @@jt52193I'd like to know that too. I read one to two weeks. I'm right at the one week mark, and getting roughly two eggs a day. Hopefully they start settling in and getting comfortable.

    Great tips!!!! We're just coming off of a molt here, both chickens and quail. The quail have mostly recovered nicely, but my older hens are taking longer. I just hatched a new batch to replace the older ones and have one more batch in the incubator. I think the olders are 2 years give or take a little. Up until now they bounced back better.
    Our quail have gotten used to a small hawk who comes frequently and sits right outside their cage, staring at them straight on. When she started this, they freaked out but it's been happening for their whole lives now, and our cages are built strong enough that she cannot get to them at all. Now they just carry on and live their best little quail lives!

    Thanks Zach. This will be very helpful. I’m tired of bald males riding each other. I have been moving them at 6 weeks. That doesn’t work so well. My hens have been taking a while to lay also. Thanks for the info!

    It’s been dark and gloomy lately and much colder than usual. I placed a heat lamp above their cage and they started laying again. Keeps them warm and I think makes up for the lack of sunlight.

    My birds are in 2 by 2 by 8'. Those cages are in an 10 by 12 shed. Use a shopvac to clean sand up and they quit laying for about a week I'm assuming that was too much noise But when I run my lawn mower around the outside in the summer it doesn't affect them

    Hi Zach, just making sure I heard you correctly: 3 quail per sqft? Most videos and such I've seen until this one suggested only 1 quail per sqft (wire bottoms), so in my 6 sqft wire cage, I can have up to 18 quail in there (with the correct male/female ratio of course)?

    • @MyshireFarm
      @MyshireFarm  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes 1 quail per sq ft is for bobwhites not Coturnix

    Is there a way to tell if an old hen has stopped laying. So I can process them and introduce new hens.

    • @MyshireFarm
      @MyshireFarm  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We switch our males every 6 months and hens once a year. And you can vent sex and will be able to tell if they are still laying.

    Hello zack . I used save a chick for one week so i gave them 2 times and then after a week or so they did start laying again. My question is ..do i give it to them regularly every week or is it a time period and stop giving them ? Thank you

    • @MyshireFarm
      @MyshireFarm  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We only give them save a chick if something changes, weather, change cages etc

    I’ve had my female quail for 6 months now ans she has laid an egg … not sure how old is she , she was an adult already when I got her . I’m sure she’s a hen cause she is the wild type color so easily sexable.

    • @MyshireFarm
      @MyshireFarm  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They need 16 hours of light a day or she could be over 2 years old and they do not lay very well after that

    I will give them a stress free life, right in my freezer! LOL.... I have way to many males again! Seems like every 2 weeks I am doing up males! It's ok though, there not going to waist! One thing I have not been doing is saving my hides or wings! I better start saving wings and at least the little feathers! Fly Tiers for fishermen!!! Feet for tooth picks! 🤪🤣🤣
