Hello I'm James from Dallas Texas and I'm watching you oh God just about three in the morning I at one time watched you once before or twice before I rewatch everything I love the flowers you're using and the eucalyptus one of my favorite things are stock roses of course it's kind of a romantic swag you got going there but I thank you for sharing like watching certain people and you're one of them happy holidays it is right now December 1st 2022 and it's actually 12:59 a.m. so really enjoying watching you
Just came across your tutorial. All business in front of the camera, and hilarious, what we really want to say, behind 😂. GREAT tutorial and so informative. Love it!!
Love your tutorials! I'm doing my niece's wedding flowers in November, your tutorial gave me a few really good hints, especially as I haven't been in floristry for quite a few years now..am much more confident after watching, thanks heaps
Oh good!!!! Which method did you have to use?!!?!? People kept asking me for a sign video but I kept thinking "Each one is different so I'm gonna have to teach 10 methods!"
@@FlowerMoxie I had just enough space at the top/middle of the swag to zip tie it to the easel and back fill with roses and succulents to fill the gap :)
Loving and learning so much from all of your great tutorials! You are amazing to share all this knowledge and experience, I've done flowers for weddings before but I'm learning so much for this upcoming one I'm about to do. Thank you so much and I also love the written funny commentary as well!
If you want it really hardcore, then I would just use Sam's Club pre-made garland. But for a rope swing, I feel you could get away with Italian ruscus and wraping some bind wire around the the rope to hold it in place. Italian Ruscus is about 3ft per strand, so I would just double it up.
We'd consider it an honor! We love being able to share the process and make it easier for our viewers to recreate on their own! We're sure that you're going to do an amazing job with your daughters wedding!
Watching the video and thinking on the second sign could you have done a bottom swag? . just a thought and I am just learning so I think you're amount of details in the video are invaluable l..so could you do another if you already didn't with bottom and side swags? Thank you for your videos they are really helpful!
Thanks. It’s really a help. I actually love the frame with the pale pink writing. Can you tell us what material you used? Is it glass? How did you achieved the pinky ends? Many thanks
Ah, thank you, Leah! This is my employee's wedding sign that I think she had made on Etsy. It is glass so I have no idea how they shipped it successfully, but I think that's something you could make. You'd buy a frame that comes with glass, paint the color on the back and the writing on the front???
Loved this! So helpful. Could this swag be displayed from the bottom instead? Any advice for mechanics or design shape? I am not sure what the easel will look like since the funeral home is providing it. 24x30 inch frame - sitting vertically. Funeral is Tuesday, can I prep Monday morning and have flowers still looking fresh? Thank you!
For sure! I would use a Small Oasis Iglu if you're going to make it the day before. You can use putty to stick it to the sign and maybe try to secure it with some wire. XXX, Amy
very helpful tutorial! How long would you envision the first floral spray to last without water source? Do you use a hydration chamber method to make in advance, then hydrate? I sometimes find myself reverting to the little oasis pods out of concern for hydration....
Ah, good question! I'm with you on using an Oasis pod because it holds the product while providing hydration at the same time. I have never used the hydration chamber for sign florals, but I would imagine it would work great! The only conflict would be the stem length and your chamber size. Mainly, I try to use hardy blooms that can hang out for several hours without a water source, so things like roses, carnations, cushion flowers, stock or snaps, and going heavy on greens if the vibe calls for it.
I've never found any brand to be different than others. I've seen some florists who use white putty, but I've only seen the green at my wholesalers. And to be honest, right now, I'm happy when I am able to get my hands on any floral supplies because they've been so scarce since the pandemic.
If you use a foam iglu cage you can make it the day before, just remember to re-wet the foam the following day and store it in a cool location or the fridge.
You'll want to choose hardy flowers and keep it in a large hydration chamber with damp paper towels, then mist the inside with a spray bottle to keep things hydrated. You can also use an iglu for hydration like Amy shows at the beginning of the video!
If you use a foam iglu cage you can make it the day before, just remember to re-wet the foam the following day and store it in a cool location or the fridge. And avoid heavy drinkers like hydrangeas, which would be too fatty for the iglu anyways!
Seeded Eucalyptus, baby! I reach for eucalyptus, ruscus, weeping podacarpus, and plumosa often when it comes to wedding signs. I like greenery that has some drape, and can be more linear and soft.
If you're going the swag route then I'd recommend making two bouquets and tying them together the day-of. So you can make the bouquets in advance and keep them in water, but you can't pull them out and tie them together until the event date. That allows you to work ahead, however! For a foam pew holder or Iglu, you can make it the day before beginning to end!
Yep! You'll want to keep the foam wet and make sure the stems are locked into the foam. I like to use a watering can or kitchen sink sprayer to re-wet the foam daily!
Great question! It will really only drip when you insert the flowers so you can lay a towel behind it as you build, or build it on something different and transfer it. I hate I forgot to address that! Thank you for asking!
Hi!! I have a question! If i am displaying photos on frame with clothes pins, will the water from floral foam cage drip onto my photos?? I want to recreate an arrangement like yours but afraid it ll ruin photos. Thank you!!!
That is a great question! Using a floral foam cage can cause some dripping to happen to you'll want to be careful of that with your photos. We recommend having your clothespins and florals in place and then attaching your photos last so they aren't damaged. Or you can create a floral swag that doesn't use a floral foam cage but you would want to create that on the day of the wedding!
Def like-buttoned this one before I watched, and I was right 😙 You have been so helpful to me and I really appreciate it! Question: do you have a video on using/prepping/conditioning Silverdust Dusty Miller (Cineraria)? It’s perennial in my garden so I have huge ones (that’s what she said) and have a baby shower for my nephew coming up where I would love to utilize it. I’ve used it in plenty of arrangements at home and it’s great freshly picked but I’ve never traveled with it or used it in foam which would have to happen for the shower. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it for sale at my local flower shop either which makes me wonder about whether it will sh*t the bed. Also, I have been given free rein on flowers for this one and was thinking of doing a blue on blue almost monochromatic thing with this recipe: Dusty Miller Olive greenery Silver dollar euc Blue thistle Blue hydrangeas Blue boy bachelor button (another from my garden that I never see on sale, will these bitch out?) White lisianthus Queen Anne’s lace (from my garden) White hypericum Baby’s breath These will all be in low arrangements on a dark table in foam (except the hydrangeas which will be in a larger arrangement in water) I tried to come up with decent textural contrast, but I’m worried it will look like a washed out blob and second guessing if I need to break it up with some dark green foliage and chartreuse filler flowers. Thoughts? Thanks again for the amazing videos 🙃💐✨
Hello Kelli! Thank you for your kind words and for your question! Ok, so dusty miller can be a floppy bitch, but it works when you nestle it down into supporting flowers like hydrangea. My neighbor has some lambs ear and I'm always snipping some and it tends to be long-lasting but the stuff at wholesale can be pretty dang hit and miss, but as long as you nestle it then I think you'll be fine! I'm a fan of monochormatic vibes right now! I think what you're planning sounds dreamy and I think the QAL will give it a really nice garden vibe! If you feel it's blobby then I'd add some soft buttery yellows like Yellow Stock, but I'd hold off on making that call until I made my first centerpiece. So Button Boys, which we call Cornflower down in Okie-land, look delicate but when I pluck them out of my garden I find them long-lasting. When I've bought them from wholesale it's hit and miss, but I'd still go for it! My advice on foam is to have a trash stem to make the hole before inserting the delicate blooms. That way, the 'good stem' is not clogged with foam on the end and can drink better. Does that make sense?
@@FlowerMoxie You are welcome, and thank YOU! 💙✨ I am so grateful for you sharing your wisdom and experience, as well as your ideas! I love the thought of maybe throwing some butter yellow into the mix - my inspiration was sort of a blue sky and clouds thing and I think the yellow would work so much better with that than any of the greens I was considering, so I am definitely going to keep that in mind if I feel that the monochromatic-ish blues aren’t coming together. And I’m so glad to know that my garden grown stuff has the potential to work in “real” arrangements and not just the vase on my table.
