This has definitely inspired me to try something with these platforms on my singleplayer, there's so many beautiful areas to play around with! Maybe something with many interconnected little teirs?
Nice vid. I like the idea of using fence foundations except you can build much of a roof for your base. 2 spaces from the wall & then no support. At least with foundations you can build a whole roof without adding pillars everwhere.
I do the stuff with the fence foundations and pillars as well... I just use stone foundations as well and send the foundations in all around snapping to each pillar placed and then three foundations in to give the ceiling some structural support
from 2:50 to 3:30 you basically say nothing, you just begin the same sentence over and over again, "this is what I do, so this is what I do, so what I do is, so ..." Come on man..
cool video! i found a base spot on aberration at 42.1 51.3, the edge at the waterfall. its relatively flat but i wanted to incoorparate like 2-3 platforms on different levels, connected with stairs and i wanted to know a godd foundation layout (and they are also a bit too small). perfect video, answered both of my questions, thanks! PS: i think i am just gonna build a rock drake start platform (if i get my hands on some eggs, just came to aberration last saturday) and a zipline for some ravagers down the blue biome
You are extremely helpful. I enjoy how precise you are. It’s helpful because I’m very particular with my builds as well. Things need to line up correctly. Thanks for making this easy to follow as well!
The biggest issue with cliff platforms that I have is that (on official at least) you can't clip into the cliff walls, so any attempt to build on them is met with gaping holes at the edge where the platform meets the cliff which is never straight up-down but always either slopes in or outwards. It's also tricky to build decent looking roofs without littering the platform with pillars that don't quite line up nicely. Another issue with them is that placing the fence foundation right at the edge of the hole doesn't perfectly work, since the little wooden squares at the edge of the platform aren't all centered properly.
I tried pretty well everything. stone foundation closer to edge, further from edge, further into wooden square, further out and every combination of those 4. Cant get 2 to snap together. I have also cycled through all the snap points with R1.
GG Fizz, any good tips on putting a ceiling on a cliff platform. I managed to get one on top of a rock and have 100% of the platform. And I would like to put a roof on it to protect my stuff in side. But I done want to fill it with pillars. Any help would be great.

So after 3 1/2 hours of trying to get this to work on xbox, i never got it to work once. I tried every method i found in the comments, i tried follow the video exactly. It never worked. I dont know what im doing wrong but im just going to give up for now until something happens to make it work.

I was at the cliffs by the ocean; they were lower to the ground, yet I wasn’t able to build much because it kept giving me a message that the structure was too far away from the platform. I was trying to do the fence with a wall and the wall wouldn’t place.
Cant snap things on it because "to high above the ground". This max height bs really puts a bummer on my creativity. Like i have a perfect place and a beautiful picture in my head but cant utilize it because of multiplayer rules.

You have collision off. You need to make this clear to people.
Is this why i can only make it work two sections like he is doing? Section 3 always fails with "pillar obstructed". Grrrr

No longer working in 2021, you get an error stating the objects are too high above the ground.
it should still work, you are prob a t a place where it hitting the max Hight limits.

The problem I had was the pillars absolutely refused to snap correctly, I could only get one to snap at each midpoint between the fence foundations.
cycle the snap points. not sure on xbox, but the option on PC is 'G' key. you need corner snap
