One of the best graduation speeches I've seen to date. His juggle of words, contemporary culture, wise words, history and jokes in 13 minutes was pretty impressive. He makes it look easy.
After he made the integration joke, the camera immediately panned over the graduating class at 4:55. It made me realize that Stephen has amazing eyesight because I cannot see how they kept it up.
Hey, this is actually Dean Shore, the campus barber mentioned that day. Just have to add, it was probably the single most shocking/surprised moment of my life when he mentioned my name.
What is interesting is how the newscasters only called it funny when near the end it was more honorable and didn't give much thought about everything else other than the jokes.
Buy recyclable toothbrushes made from recyclable materials, and ask your supermarkets to stock them. The best thing for your teeth is to stop eating sticky sugary foods, and take the time to brush thoroughly after eating.
1:22 "But..." And here among money you bring up all those things in your mind and heart that you did not go for, then you compare them to money and work and routine and... You want to cry :) . Admit it :D
yaggyplantationproductions It's become a bit of an American tradition. Doesn't really happen in the UK. Well honorary doctorates are given out but not televised in front of thousands of students. You know he had his speech written by his team of writers. The nearest thing we have of honours given to inappropriate people in the UK are knighthoods.
"Hello Lake Forest University. Wait, Wake Forest? Wake, right? Anyway, I am doing this for more money...and I have no idea who any of you are. But thank you for the food and the pay check. Here are a few names and words to make you think for the next 24 hours that your university name will matter to 90% of your employers..."
Never went to a university, so no jealousy. Just enjoying how bored he sounds in front of a bunch of kids who have no idea what's about to hit them in life... :)

+Samuel Hauptmann van Dam I think his speech at Northwester university in 2011 is even better, if not the best graduation speech I've heard.
Raphael Gotta look it up, thanks!
Not a lot appreciated his humor but he's a legend
How fun. It's great that he doesn't bore them with a pile of empty 'motivational' quotes but delivers with sincerity and humor.

He makes me smile. He makes me happy.
I LOVE STEPHEN COLBERT SO MUCH , HE'S ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT !
After he made the integration joke, the camera immediately panned over the graduating class at 4:55. It made me realize that Stephen has amazing eyesight because I cannot see how they kept it up.

I spotted at least 1 Asian and 1 African-American
Iam a huge fan of stephen and I really love him soo much. I wish I could meet him once in my life. He always makes me smile
Wake forest is such a beautiful place. And so smart
Wow, This Rings True. Run Forest... Run! May Colbert Friends always find refuge in Laughter and Good Company. May we all be so Lucky! - UTEP Grad.
Graduated 3 years too early from Wake. Man I missed out.
Hey, this is actually Dean Shore, the campus barber mentioned that day. Just have to add, it was probably the single most shocking/surprised moment of my life when he mentioned my name.
Wake Forest sounds like the name of a cemetery
Kevin Piastra: Comedian Lol I thought that as well.
The colors as well.
And the chrismon ("XP" cross)
Great university though
Hey, watch it, that's my alma mater!! 😝😝😝
Do i dare mention our mascot is a deacon (i.e. old white man)? 😂😂😂😂
And he opens with a Mad Max reference.
I would say I forgot how much I love him, but that would be a lie.
What's the reference? Forgive me, I'm ignorant. DX
MasterMerc13 "Oh what a day. What a lovely day."
svenhoek86
Oh, my bad lol
That grinder joke was pretty good. lol
I died when I heard that 😂
He’s pretty awesome at speeches!!
"Pearls of wisdom from Stephen Colbert." That could could be a good lead-in or a good punch line.
Anyone else wanting the microphones to line up with the seals on his robe?
can't unsee
Dammit, now I do. CURSE YOU, SIR/MA'AM!
Great now I can't stop thinking about it.
OCD here!
Damn you! Now I keep looking at it when watching this video!
@ 1:58 that smile when you don't understand the joke (I'm looking at you, old people in the back)
the title read "Stephen Colbert gives a funny farewell to Wake..." before clicking on it, the irony. I clicked on it expecting dark humor.
That was absolutely brilliant.
colbert is just the best
Good to know there's an old person who knows how to reference pop culture. Probably because he is pop culture
Carrina Murphy he’s only 55
Peace among worlds.
Pterodactyl!
makes me want to have gone there for undergrad, especially since that was my graduating year XD
He makes me laugh. I like that.
Awesome
He looks like a knight from Harry Potter, is that intentional?
livetalk yes Harry Potter copies many design features of tradition. The cafeteria in Hogwarts is in reality at one of the colleges in Oxford.
I love it!

ahah I love the part about integration! very clever speech but so true!
I guess Wake Forest is now... in their wake.
I was about to say, " wasn't that a fury road reference?" Lol.
amazing guy he is......
this dude is the elevator music for comedy, neither puts me up nor down.

I need him to go back to Television as soon as possible
Honorary doctorates being given out send such a contradictory message. Someone giving advice to someone else who has actually worked for that degree.

MrTree1779 What do you want, they hired him to talk
My jealousy detector is about to explode.
Never went to a university, so no jealousy. Just enjoying how bored he sounds in front of a bunch of kids who have no idea what's about to hit them in life... :)
MrTree1779 I have to agree with you on that. They never see it comin. lol.
+MrTree1779 He cared enough to write an entertaining speech. Don't act like you know what people cherish or care about.
meh
can anyone tell me why this is funny?
+tomaspianist no, find out yourself
There was once a time when colbert was a little funny, but his stuff is worn out and we need a change.
I disagree. His monologues on the late show continue to be hilarious night after night.
Am I the only one who doesn't find him funny?
D Dedalo 2020 yep
Colbert is what Rachel Maddow would look like if she was a man.
515th like.
Snubby wake forest kids cant take a joke smh..
not that impressive~
