This is my home lake. I love the song with reference to Roland Stone. So many great fish runs on this lake. May, June Sauger, walleye. July, August white bass. Crappie in the spring and fall, good catfish bite most of the year. The spillway has been overrun with those big head carp for a while now and has impacted the fishing so negatively there. Any given day you can see thousands of them standing over them on the dam. I like the idea of taking a bunch of these carp to the Wild Bird sanctuary. I would definitely help on a project like that. I have been fishing this lake for 40 years. Love your videos keep up the great work. Thank you
In Indiana it is legal to snag silver and bighead carp. The best way to catch them legally by any numbers I have found is a Yozuri suspending jerkbait with beefed up 4/0 shortshank trebles, making it a slow sinking (about 1 foot per second) lure. I count it down to the depth I want before quickly retrieving (it should spiral through the water with the heavier hooks) I rarely have a small crappie as bycatch but honestly there are not many other species left, the carp have truly taken over in biomass. They taste amazing and I eat a lot (bighead has a slight lobster flavor) plus give away the filets at work. I can leave 30 pounds of fish in the breakroom fridge and they disappear in an hour, way faster than doughnuts!
I almost got fined for releasing on those guys. Didn’t realize I wasn’t supposed to. I was wondering why there were carcasses all over the bank 😂😂😂. Love that spot tho. I’ve caught tons of crappie and white bass in that very spot.
A new 618 video before I head off for the last day of work before the weekend, what's not to love!? Great video as always, Nick. Constantly upbeat, positive and always wholesome, a true gentleman and ambassador for decency! Tight lines, Brother, Happy Christmas from England. 😁
Back in the day, we used to catch a lot of white bass, drum, spoonbill, channel cat, gar, and carp below that dam. We would go out in the summer and fish from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am and catch tons.
Nice! I'm from the "618" so a lot of these areas are familiar looking to me. Right at that spillway you're fishing, and a little ways down the river, I have seen some gar so big that they really kind of scared me. Great, and interesting fishing there.
They have been stocking Alligator gar for over ten years in appropriate habitat in western KY and southern IL. Hopefully they will get re established and have a reproducing population. Unlike other local gar species they have to be 5+ years old to reproduce.
Happy he posted a new video today. I feel like I needed a fishing video since I can't go fishing. It's to cold here and everything is frozen over including the river. Merry Christmas to everybody. Be safe. Happy new years also
Where're you based? I'm in Ireland, and the canals were all frozen until yesterday or so. The rivers, while not frozen, were not great either. Fish were conserving energy, and not going for lures/flies.
Nick "the Bait Catcher" from 618 Fishing. Just remember the golden rule. "A bad day fishing, is still better than a good day at work." Great video, as always.
When the water is low, you have a stronger concentration of fish, which leads to more bites, typically anyways. You should try cut bait with worms/night crawlers. The cut bait has the scent and the worms have the wiggle. Works great for me in TN. Thanks for the great vids as always.
Hey Nick! If you will pause your video at 7:15 You can see your bell falling into the water and splashing one feet from the rocks underneath you :D Great content as always. Cheers from Poland!
Hey Nick, inquiring minds want to know just how big is your freezer at home and how much Asian carp bait do you have in it? I'm picturing a walk-in Walmart freezer 🤣.... Rock on Nick
You should try going to a location where you know there’s no carp. You’ve been catching mainly carp the last few weeks! Still love watching you videos. I always look forward to them!
Thanks BUDDY, that black cloud of fish was something to see. I always enjoy a fishing adventure with Nick at 618 Fishing. This was a fun one like always, creek, ponds, ocean, spillway king. Needed a 🧨for bait at this place. I saw your bell hit the water after bouncing off the rocks from the one pole. Thanks again for sharing your adventures. 🐟🎥💯👍👑
Love watching the channel. Little brother. Why don't you have the biggest and best of 2022. For the end of the year. I would love to see all your besties for 2022. Keep up the good work
Another great HD video Nick and enjoyed it but man your a carp magnet lol. You will have plenty of bait for future trips that’s for sure! Thanks for sharing! Have a great and safe weekend and take care dude! See ya next adventure!
I agree they are pretty good! If they didn’t have so many bones I’m almost certain tons of people would target them there wouldn’t be an overwhelming population of them
'this many giant fish in spillway'. My mind immediately pops up 'most definitely this many giant carp in spillway'. Turns out im right on mark😂😂😂. Great vids as usual Nick👍👍👍
Well you had a good work out , and big carp put up a decent fight. The monster fish is waiting 😂. Great video, thanks Nick . Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎄
hi amigo, a little advice, if your fishing spot has running water like in the video it's better to fish in front of it, because fish prefer running water
Those damned Carp there, are in just about every big river here on the east side of the country and in a lot of big lakes and reservoirs too, and there is a lot of commercial fishermen who are catching tons of those things and seems like they can't keep up with how fast they are spawning and growing in the big waters, it's a bummer. The problem is that they are taking their toll on native fishes, the carp aren't eating them specifically but they are eating their eggs and young or whatever!
I enjoy catching big heads and silvers really great for the garden. They make great bait and not too bad to eat. If you don’t want to take the fish dispatch them and throw them in the current. Something will make a meal out of them
Disturbing how these carp are taking lures. Now they aren’t just out competing native fish, they will be eating native fish too.👍🏻🇨🇦
They gon start eating each other soon
The carp isn't going for it. The carp was filtering the water with its mouth open, and nicks bait got it then.
They suck up striper, catfish, Salmon, and sturgeon eggs. No bueno
Not sure what else could live in that nasty looking water...lol
And there some how filter feeders
YOUR VIDEOS ARE FANTASTIC I LOVE IT, CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE AN AMAZING FISHERMAN.
GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!👍🏼
HUG!!!👏👏👏👏
Another 618 Thursday. Love seeing the variety of different fish. Keep them fish coming in.

Where are some good spots I’m from the 618 area too but I wanna start fishing more but don’t know many places
The area below that spillway has been stocked with Alligator Gar. I bet you're seeing some of original stocking!
@@mjdiiii very interesting I did not know that I stocked alligator gar there

Oh my God Fishing Adventure 👍👍👍
That song Go On Blues is awesome 💥❤
You Sir, are an absolute legend. Searched through lyrics galore with a sad face to conclude my failure to find this masterpiece of a song.
Can’t wait to watch this banger of a vid. You should try to team up with Ty PigPatrol and catch some big Arapaima in the Amazon one day.
Are those silver carp good eating Nick? That might be a great place to take kids to catch a giant fish to eat 😎👍🏼
Another great day another great video. Thanks Nick618! You the man! 🤙

Another great watch, Nick. Have you considered cooking and eating the silver carp? They taste good, and that way catching them isn’t so disappointing.
I agree they are pretty good! If they didn’t have so many bones I’m almost certain tons of people would target them there wouldn’t be an overwhelming population of them

For those wondering he is at the bottom of the dam at Carlyle Lake which is the start of the Kaskaskia River.

The giant catfish eludes you. However, one day you are going to land one. Great video Nick even though we only got one see you later buddy!
I enjoy catching big heads and silvers really great for the garden. They make great bait and not too bad to eat. If you don’t want to take the fish dispatch them and throw them in the current. Something will make a meal out of them
