    Thanks for this! I was just thinking today I needed to step back and start over, so to speak, with mine and reapers' relationship with each other. I apprentice you taking the time to make this and offer a helping hand to us looking up at a serious learning curve (wall?) of a DAW.

      Yeah No problem! Thanks for watching, and yeah that first hill of just figuring out the basics is tough. If you need any help or want me to make a video on something specific just let me know.

    For the record, crime rates in New Mexico are dropping (slightly), and by not paying the fine right away, he’s taking up time in court that could be spend prosecuting other people.

      @@divisionofthenorth1 Oops! My watch later queue flipped ahead while I was commenting. This obviously went to a different video.
      Thanks very much for this video! I should probably spend more time watching videos on Reaper and less time commenting on wingnutty videos.

    stock plugin wise i feel like the reaper dev should add a synth, but since reaper supports JS plugins, the community made tons of free reaper exclusive plugins including synths, as well as the vsts available out there it's not a big deal
    still, a default synth bundled would be good (i'm aware of the current one that's in reaper, reasynth, but it's really lacking in capability)

    • @divisionofthenorth1
      @divisionofthenorth1  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear what you're saying! I've always thought that for the price it's already pretty loaded.
      Of course if you compare to garage band or logic, those come with some good vst's right off the bat.
      I think with the money you're saving there's plenty of room to spend on any synth of your choice. I personally like native instruments.

    heya..nice vid.
    a question..im trying to learn some basic recording and missing/mastering principle's.
    Long story cut short ,I create acoustic renditions on my guitar (recorded with a Scarlett solo interface)..I have different track files likes intro, chorus. Verse etc..is it best to add effects (reverb, delay etc) to each track or simply add the effects to the 'bounced' final file?..hope it makes sense.
    Cheers

    I can't believe Reaper doesn't save project files and rendered files to their own folders by default. That just seems like a no-brainer.

    Noob just learned what freeze was, in that I didn't know that it took the plugin off CPU power, and that you could return it again, I always thought once it was rendered down it was ready like a stem! I have an older PC and often get crackles when my CPU is being pushed hard....... I'm saving for a new PC but that's another story, any tips on new PC's and required components for music production would be good. Thanks for your tips!

      No problem! I'm glad this helped. The most budget friendly gear I can think of is a Desktop. You can get good processing power for a really good price. Reaper itself doesn't need a lot of resources to run. It's going to come down to the plugins and size of your projects, so keep that in mind. With a desktop you can always upgrade certain things. Hope this is helpful.

    Installed Reaper. Tried for a hour to get audio from a simple midi file. No success in getting audio from a simple midi file. Decided that I'm not smart enough to use Reaper. Uninstalled Reaper.

      Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Honestly, I had a similar experience. When I first started with reaper I found it to be quite dense and overwhelming. I would definitely give it another try though. If you're looking to get into music production, it's a great DAW. What I did is this, I got really specific about what I was trying to do and looked for tutorials on just that. I gave up on trying to figure things out on my own. There is also the reaper forum, a lot of friendly help there. Lastly the manual is downloadable from the reaper site as well, I reference that quite a bit these days. Good luck!

      Did you ever figure out that midi files don’t make noise. That you need a VSTi synth or another Vst instrument. Then you press play and the midi notes will be trigger the vst instrument. So then sound will come out. Midi files don’t have sound

      Hi thanks for watching, it could be a few things. Try going down the list of possibilities.
      Go to devices, disable and then enable the midi keyboard.
      Make sure the track is armed and enabled to record.
      Is your midi keyboard selected on the track as the input the device.
      Hope some of these help!

    A few dozen preferences, each with a few dozen choices ends up being far too many thing to remember.

    • @divisionofthenorth1
      @divisionofthenorth1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol I definitely feel where you're coming from. With all the options it can be overwhelming. Something that has worked for me is to use reaper as is, and as needs arise then you can look for custom preferences, actions, etc...
      For example color coding for me, I did it the long way for a while and saw I could really use something to do that faster.
      Thanks for watching!

    I would have given up on Reaper a long time ago if it wasn't for informative, yet understandable, videos like this one. Your subscriber count doesn't reflect the quality of content you're producing. Far from it.
