I did a free check on this using total car check ( just to see the power output etc) as I do with a lot of cars.
It showed up a mileage issue witha reduction of 28 thousand between 2016 and 2018 buy your car vertical says all clear.
I’m on my 6th Range Rover now having bought a 3 litre L405 V6 3 years ago and I have to say it’s a fabulous car! I do service it every year with a RR specialist and I’m keeping it totally stock, original and in showroom condition but that’s my OCD kicking in. On a run between my home in Kent and the Yorkshire Dales I average 44 mpg which is amazing.
44mpg?! That’s mad! Have a word with Joe about how to get better mpg out of his 😅
What! Is your Trip computer malfunctioning?!?
Nope. The secret is to keep it rolling along. No hard acceleration or braking. Most of the time I have the cruise control activated and set at 70 mph. I thought about buying a V8 diesel but I opted for the V6 because I wanted the cheapest road tax and the chance of better fuel economy. So far I’m pleased with my choice. Mind you, I have 4 cars and the RR is only ever used for trips.
@@michaelyounes29They over estimate by about 20% in these.
People talk so much crap about them but i loved mine when i owned it
I bought my first L405 of this dealer. Excellent chap and would go back again for my next one. Highly recommend him.
Yeah he’s a really cool guy, proper car enthusiast too 🙌😊
If you're handy these can be a good buy. Parts are going to be more expensive, but they're common enough to where the prices aren't terrible and you can frequently find quality aftermarket replacements. As he said, the big thing is taking care of small problems before they become big problems. And if you can do the work yourself, you avoid the massive markups you'll find at the dealers.
I’m 34 and I’m on my 6th RR, I’ve had 4 full size and an SVR and currently have new P530 first edition and D350 Autobiography sport. Best cars I’ve ever had. The 4.4SDV8 is a fantastic engine and ridiculous value for money. Get a Ghost or Metatrak and turn off the keyless entry and you’re sorted.
Cool! Yeah thanks man I need to look into those security devices, I’ll make video trying various things 🤙
Great idea. Well done to Charles for coming on and giving us some advice. I’d definitely buy from Charles
Bought 2015 4.4 with 42k miles full history 1 owner,
In my 4 years expect 3-5k a year in maintenance and repairs combined.
Oil leaks happen, coolant pipes and brake lines need replacing a lot.
It’s actually not bad on fuel and tyres can last a long time if you drive steady, Do not put any other brand of brakes on other than brembo you have been warned and for a set of front and back your at about £1500.
Now mine has got around 100k on it and I’ve driven it all over, I hate paying the maintenance but I just love the car ! 👌🏼😌
Is that main dealer prices or independent specialist?
@@dadcars specialist but remembered I do 20k miles a year, I like to change the oil every 9k.
I can send you photos of my maintenance logs and you will see what happens. Never anything majorly mechanical just like the chap in the video said oil coolers etc it soon adds up.
I’ve had a few air suspension issues aswell and that isn’t fun but in 4 years of ownership that was twice.
You’ll be fine and you’ll love it!
Lovely Motor, seems a geniune seller too. All i can say is, Good luck Bud!
Yeah Charles has a great place down there! Lovely guy 😊
Most cars will be reliable if they're maintained properly. I think people bought L322 and L405 Range Rovers expecting old Defender "hit it with a hammer" levels of reliability, and then wondered why they broke down. Old Mercs are the same these days; if you buy a £100k-when-new car for £10-15k, it's still going to have £100k car maintenance costs. Owners then start skipping repairs and maintenance and THEN you get the big bills that tarnish a models' reputation.
Ben and Joe should definitely do more "mates arguing cars".
Yep this makes a lot of sense, I want to get Joe on more 😅🙌
L322 was a disaster! First trip and the supercharger had to be replaced…. Nightmare hence i only lease them now…
@@MasBuzo-zj6ztspeak for yourself. You bought a turd. I’ve piled the miles on. At least 6 road trips in the last 3 months.
@@stop_lying_bro well Land rover was only selling turds from 07 to 2012….
@@MasBuzo-zj6zt nah
I’m on my 3rd Land Rover/Range Rover now, over about 8 years of motoring and love them. Almost no issues and nothing major in any of the cars. So capable and comfortable. I’m sure you’ll love it!
People underestimate (as your mate did) what the ZF box paired with most engines can do for you in MPG especially on long runs. Much more efficient than DSG7 boxes, thanks to the extra gear and I actually prefer the way they drive. We’ve done a few range rovers and they are very nice cars to drive and own, you only know once you have one of course that’s why a lot of people just sit and slate them.
Excellent provenance and avoided the 3.0 litre diesel crank snapper engine. Well done. Gives you half a chance.
Feels like a good fair car to make an honest real world experience series with…
I dived in and bought a 2012 L322 TDV8 a year ago after Harry Metcalfe’s “Peak Range Rover” video. I’m absolutely loving it. I’m really looking forward to this series, Ben. It’s not a high performance Dadcar, but it’s certainly an enthusiast’s Dadcar.
Lovely spec, btw, and I loved the banter with Joe.
Yeah you have the enthusiasts pick for sure :)
Nice, I picked up my 2017 L405 Sdv8 last week, absolutely love it. Just keep up on the maintenance. And I’ve gotten so far 41mpg on distance days and around town 35mpg. I’ve owned a few l322 and have been some of the more reliable cars I’ve owned.
Nice! Feels like it’s just idling when in cruise on the motorway 👌
@@dadcarsthat’s part of what I love, it just idles and is a comfortable car but is a very capable 4x4 subject to tyres.
Great video, looking forward to seeing what your wife thinks. Please go off roading with your mate, will be comedy gold.
Yeah Joe would love that 🙈
Missing a parcel shelf, but you got a towbar.
Upper tailgate is out of alignment. Lower tailgate doesn't open properly automatically. Both common, neither a big deal.
If you can get the car in to top gear, with the engine almost at tickover, the fuel economy is surprisingly good.
Seems like great value. Very interested in this video series, as I, too, am agnostic when it comes to these cars. Servicing is key with cars like this. Change the oil every 5k miles. I'd also do a gearbox service asap. And just keep on top of things when they fail or break. Oh, and you can disable the keylesss entry to make the car harder to steal. Don't know why insurance companies don't simply insist that it's disabled.
Yeah I need to look into security
Fantastic vehicle, excellent choice, Ben.
It’s a nice looking example! Let’s see what my wife thinks! 😬
this is going to be an awesome series. I owned an l322, 65k miles, beautiful but sold it cause of timing chain anxiety. replaced it with an LR3 - not as luxurious, but I drove it cross country without worry or issue, put a roof rack on it for camping and offloading, and easily works for kids sports and adventures. (I do want another Range Rover so curious to see the l405 works out)
What will be will be! I’ll just be 100% open on what it’s like in the real world :)
It’s the 2.0s to stay clear of. The 3 litre V6 is the one to go for if getting into RRs whether that is a normal one or a Velar.
Charles is a top bloke and is a trusted cars salesman.
I've brought vehicles from him before and they have all been as he has said so i hope you enjoy yours 👍
Happy driving
👏😎
I live local to this garage and recognised the name of the dealer. I looked at this after you released the 1st vlog. When i seen the colour of that interior with 4 kids i was cracking up. 😂
I like the outer colour though, sucker for a blue motor.
I keep thinking of an rr but love my sporty cars. May do what you have done and get the wife one instead.
Hi Ben. Hope your doing well.
I loved the video. I loved that metallic blue on that Range Rover. Love the leather too. I hope your wife likes it.
Can't wait to see the next video.
Take care and stay safe.
Thanks Frank! 🤙🙌
@@dadcars Your welcome Ben.👍.
He's sat in that Discovery giving you shit about a Range Rover! 😂
That’s what friends do 😂
Nice car Ben, good spec and can't wait for the video with Joe's car. Charles is a real gent,- I am sure your Mrs is going to love the high driving position. TBH - you can't go wrong with a RR for the other half as this motor is specially made for dropping off the kids at school and filling the boot with shopping. Have a good one and keep up the good work on the Dad cars channel.
Thanks man! Charles is a really nice chap :) proper car enthusiast too. Just need to get the X5 ready to sell now!!
That's some car for what you've paid and what a nice guy that Charles is. So close and yet so far with the XJ though!! Looking forward to seeing the follow up videos on the Range Rover 🙌 especially the reaction of your wife and kids 🫣😜
Yeah the XJ looked lovely!
Awesome video!! Great to see Joe and Charles on camera, great dynamic and lovely people! Very informative series so far, sure lots of Dads out there looking at these will do well to watch to help on the homework. Thanks for taking us along for the ride 🚙
Wow thanks Albert! 🙌😊 yeah Joe is always funny. lovely to meet Charles, what a nice guy :)
Win win, if it goes well your wife gets a great family car, if it all goes wrong you get some great content for the channel
That’s a good way of looking at it 😊🙌
Im loving the on screen chemistry with you and your mate lol 🙂 should do more. Lovely looking Range Rover and very interested in the series. Great vid
Yeah we live Joe 🙌 lots more planned with him 😊
Definitely the right colour to get it in.
£15k is a really good price. I've been considering one, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes.
New video coming next week! And it makes an appearance in this evenings new video 😎
Had your eye on the xj Ben!!!!! I feel you would have a big smile all the way home in that!!!!
😂 it wasn’t a supersport, otherwise my wife may not have been happy with what I picked up 🤣
Great vehicle and well bought.
I purchased my last two vehicles "blind" an E63 Wagon and an F Type SVR with no issue. They were both from a main dealer though with watertight warranties, but if you're happy with a deal .... Go for it!
Keep up the excellent content
Thanks man, yeah when it’s main dealer with a warranty or with a dealer you know its understandable
Congratulations on your new purchase!!
I’ve recently picked up a 2015 Autobiography in Barolo black and I absolutely love it.
Nice 👏😎
@@dadcarsmy insurance on the outskirts of Portsmouth is £1200 🥴🤣
This looks like a great spec, very classy! Hopefully the kids won't trash the interior 😅
🫠🙈
These things sale for about 60,000 USD for a similarly equipped/used car here in Laos where I live. I am dying of envy now 🙂
I've driven driven a evoque I wasn't too impressed. Drove a disco 4 absolutely loved it and part of me wants one despite the fact it's pointless big for what I need. I have driven a 2019 Range Rover autobiography few years ago it was amazingly quiet but was almost new at the time
a very common thing to look out for that can save you a diag charge is if the eml comes on in the car, open the petrol cap, unscrew and screw the cap back on again until it clicks a few times, very common for letting air in the tank and it throws up the eml as warning but a simple twist until it clicks a couple times when filling up stops this 🤣
Beautiful car. Really enjoying the channel. It's comes across as genuine and really interesting as a dad of a young child too!
This channel is excellent. So entertaining and genuine. Keep up the great content.
Thanks man! Glad you found us :)
That is a great looking car, i hope it is reliable and your wife loves it!
My discovery Sdv6 discovery has 207miles on it and tows for work daily and is used off road. Great vehicles
That's a LOT of car for the money. Seems a lucky blind deal. Happy driving!
🤙😊
Great looking motor inside and out
Nice spec isn’t it :)
Never driven a range rover
oh mate they great to drive
had mine a few years 2007 plate supercharged v8
I loved it swapped it out for something a little more daft lol
Nice motor Ben! I only have a baby RR, an Evoque, everyone said to me that i was an idiot as they are meant to be notoriously unreliable!
Honestly i have used it as a daily for the last 3 years, thrashed it mercilessly and all its needed was new brake pads & discs! Its a 2013 & just had 32000 miles when i bought it and its now sitting on just over 64000 !
I love it and have no regrets! Bet you "borrow" your wifes new car more often than you admit! Lol great vid as usual Ben!
PS my DB9 i bought after watching your channel is still doing nicely!👍👏👏👏♥️
It is a lovely looking car, especially in Autobiography spec.... very tempting!!
Great car. a post 2016 V8 L405 is next on my list once I get bored with my current L320 or it throws me a major bill. Servicing it myself with oil changes every 6k. If you need to consult a RR specialist, I can wholeheartedly recommend AC Land Rover Specialist over in Waterlooville BTW.
Good work Ben, it looks nice, hope the misses likes it, Marcus
🤙😊
Have the timing chain checked for stretch. Failed regens and bad oil changes reduces life, Usually city driving as far as my reseqrch goes. My l322 4.4tdv8 had the chain done at 84k. They go from low mileage to high mileage or not at all. It all depends on use.
Lovely looking thing, bargain that!
I’ve had 5 JLR cars including an L405 and they’ve all been faultless. I’m either the luckiest car buyer in the world or the reliability woes are overstated online
This video came out the day I bought a 2019 P400 autobiography……enjoyed the video and looking forward to seeing if you like it as much as I do mine!
👏😎
Picking up a car in flip flops is WILLLLLLLLLLD😂😂😂😂😂
Why’s that wild? 😂 it’s summer!
Happy days been waiting for this.
At the beginning I thought my guy doesn't know the difference between range & land rover 😂.
What a car mate 👌
😂
You got lucky with the engine. Stay clear of the 3.0.
To be honest thats not bad at all. well done!
Thanks man
Congrats on the range, beautiful car. That cls next to is is stunning tho
Stunning car Ben I really think you lucked out with that mate .15 k proper bargain. It looks fantastic and 40 mpg your lucky boy .I could be tempted but I'm guessing it's a euro 5 diesel .I could face paying our nasty London mayor £12.50 a day to drive it in London. Still really pleased for you mate .great purchase 👍👏
Yeah these early ones are not ULEZ compliant
@@dadcars still a cracking purchase mate ,mind you London is shit your better off staying well away. It took me 4.5 hours today to get from Deptford to woodford this afternoon. Bloody van fire in the Blackwall tunnel
What a great vid and such a nice seller really enjoyed this and very eye opening 🤗
😊👏
I bought 3 litte and it sound really good to be honest
Get the front suspension knuckles crack tested where the top arm ball joint taper is, they regularly crack and can fail totally collapsing the suspension
Been looking forward to this one 🎉😊
Hope you enjoyed it! 🙌😊
I’m on my 9th RR. Currently exactly the same colour and engine but with Chocolate Leather and rare Burr Walnut cappings. I think the L405 is a stunning and very capable car but miss the utilitarian nature of the L322. Who the hell needs electric switches and motors to just drop the back seats?!?!
The l405 is a bit of a ‘gin palace’ but its kinda special and no slouch.
This one might have a chocolate interior after a few weeks 🫠
Thanks!
Thanks Frank!! 🥰🙌
@@dadcars Your welcome Ben.😃.
A longer wheel base (different platform) isn't an optional extra it's a different car.
If your trip computer is like mine, you didn't really get 30 or 40mpg! They over-read something shocking, there are more honest politicians! Seriously though, over 35,000 miles in mine I'm averaging a true 26mpg. I have got it over 30mpg once or twice but you need long, steady motorway runs for that.
Nothing wrong with legroom, can tell the seller is not happy with him saying that.
Lovely special car enjoy 😊
Thanks :)
Looks nice. Fingers crossed.
🤞
Specialist seller says 30% of retail value lost due to Bus Cam theft problem and post covid price correction. Ouch. I look forward to see how ig goes for you Dad / Mum.
13:39 "You get problems with any car"
Toyota LandCruiser: Am I a joke to you?
20:00 nice conversation😂
😅
@@dadcars lol I am from the uae and we r looking for the 2020 vogue se it looks soooo good have a good day.
All good Ben.
Mate that's a whole lot of car for the money you paid. It'll be costly to run, but worth it in my opinion considering you're driving a car that would usually be the preserve of the very wealthy.
Here in Aus they're still around AU$70k upwards, 35k GBP or so.
Oh and the 3.0 TDV6 and SDV6 are a dog of an engine, best avoided. Great when they work but the crankshafts snap in half...
The roof tent must be costing a good few mpg 24.8 is pretty terrible
for sure… we should have just taken the Maserati 😂 Joe did say this prior to be fair
Was looking forward to this one. Yeah. Nice big jeep. You ll love it. Or wife will. Great colour. Spec. And for the money. NICEEEEEEE
… and you made a video all about how silly your mate Ian was for not having a PPI! 😂🤣😂
Yeah I know 😂 I did call myself stupid multiple times though!
@@dadcars I know… can’t argue with facts, let’s hope you’re as lucky as me!
So much to go wrong but they are the RR of the 4 wheel drive
40 mpg? Gosh, that certainly is mpressive
WELL.. thats what the dash stated over 60 miles, 55mph average 🤷♂️
love the colour... that MPG will disappear...
I'd be interested to know what the mpg really was, by recording tank to tank fill up and calculating it, my L322 was 20% overstated on the computer compared to the real mpg calculated figure!
Yep I suspect this will be the case, I’ll calculate it properly for a future video
Enjoy you two ribbing each other! It's the maserati comparison video all over again. Haha
lol yeah I enjoyed filming that video 👏
Mpg is amazing find that difficult to believe
It can’t be accurate.. I will do some proper tests and report in a future video
Great car
5k insurance for 1year.. I'd need to buy it well we'll cheap to make sense of that
I get 32 mpg from my 4.4 V8 Range Rover, if I'm careful on a long run I can get 36mpg.
Is that what the dash says or what you’ve calculated when filling up?
Nice spec
What’s the affect on the insurance price having to insure it as a 6 seater?
You just let them know, no effect. They just suggest you keep the receipt in the event you have to claim for it.
So what work did the seller do as a courtesy. Would be interesting to know.
Lovely car. I think you are undershooting on the £2k/year. It will cost you that if you needed 4 tyres probably!
Wouldn’t be the first time… 🫠
I would say it's 12k trade value
Here's a question for all the JLR fans, why do the panel gaps never line up near the boot area 9:39? Terrible on cars of this price. Jags have it all as well, expecially the XF's
Is that Baltic blue or Loire? Didn't think they did the L405 in Baltic, but may be wrong.
seen newer ones with less miles in dealers for £2k more, same 4.4
I’ve seen them for 10k
"Any advice for people looking to buy a range rover of this age?"
"Dont." 😂
We need people like you because you contribute to keeping the prices low for those who know they are amazing machines 😂
Better off with an S max
Trade this for Calvin car diaries m5 throw a bit on top
He’s listed it for £18k
M5 stage 2 for the missus 😜🤣😜🤣
Id love that car! Sadly my budget is 10k for my next Dadcars so it’s out of reach 🥲 I really like Calvin he’s a great guy
If that jeep is only doing short trips blank the egrs or you will be replacing turbos
