      @@mischiefmakerstudios9900 It's mentioned in the movie "Back to the Batcave". Every time Burt's stunt double is needed he's on his coffee break and Burt has to do the stunt. It does it in a comedic way but still makes the point that he was put in danger and frequently injured.
      It's a good movie, Adam and Burt play themselves looking back on the series while searching for the Batmobile which has been stolen from an LA Cars of the Stars museum.

    I always found the scene in the movie where Batman is frantically trying to find a safe place to dispose of a bomb he'd found on a pier hilarious. He looks over the edge about to throw it into the water but sees a mother duck and her ducklings in tow and doesn't throw it! LOL The campiness of this show was it's charm. The scene in the movie where Batman is been lowered into the sea from the Batcopter and comes up with a rubber shark on his leg has me crying with laughter, then he asks Robin to pass him down the shark repellent bat spray, the camera pans to a range of oceanic sprays for sharks, whales, manta rays and barracudas.

    You incorrectly stated BATMAN was cancelled in 1969. Actually, its 3rd (and final) season was the 1967-68 season. BATMAN was a mid season replacement premiering on Jan. 12, 1966. Its final episode aired in March 1968. It was cancelled in 1968. Also, a lot of the villains were stars in the 1930's and 1940's (including Romero). Some of them came out of retirement (!) to play villains on the show.

    I'm surprised there was no mention of the Joker's mustache. Cesar Romero, an established "Latin lover" of cinema, wore a dashing mustache throughout his career. You can see him spoofed in the famous Warner Brothers cartoon, "Hollywood Steps Out". Romero accepted the role of The Joker but refused to shave his mustache. So they buried it beneath layers of makeup and dye. It was hard to see the mustache on 1960s analog TVs, but it's plainly visible in the stills shown in this video.

    The music sounds like a knockoff of the Doctor Who theme.
    A former coworker (now deceased) who was in high school when the show premiered said that the buzz for the show was high, but that after the first episode aired, they were all saying, "What a piece of shit!"
    The first episode of Batman I ever saw was the one with John Astin. I remember putting a mustache on the riddler in a Batman coloring book because of the episode. I actually didn't realize it was John Astin until I saw it another time. I guess I had learned more about classic TV in the interim. I don't remember seeing the Gorshin's Riddler wear a suit and tie as has become popularized in more recent years. That doesn't mean I didn't see it. I also don't remember ever seeing Mr. Freeze on the show and was surprised to learn he was on it. Another thing I didn't realize, perhaps because the TV wasn't clear enough, that Cesar Romero never shaved his mustache to play the Joker.
    Alfred's last name at the time of the TV series was Beagle. The Pennyworth surname debuted in 1981, or about that time. I'm up to 1944 in the comics, and he hasn't been given a last name thus far, although some speculate that it might be Jarvis because he says that his father was Jarvis, but doesn't explictly say that that was his first name. Alfred was originally fat, but when they cast a thin actor in the role in the 1943 serial, they had him go to a health resort where he lost weight and hair, and a grew a mustache to resemble him. He looks so different that Batman and Robin don't recognize him. This was in Detective Comics #83 (January 1944) by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang, which appears in The Batman Chronicles Volume Nine and Batman: The Golden Age volume 6. The character hadn't been around that long when the change was made.

    • @jsimpers
      @jsimpers ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Pennyworth surname was established by the mid 1970s, as they introduced Alfred's niece Julia Pennyworth, as well as his brother Wilfred (I think that was his name, he was an actor). Eventually they said that the father Alfred Beagle was on Earth-2, and the thin Pennyworth on Earth-1 (pre-Crisis), as they gave Alfred new backstories of working with the French underground during WW2, and he was thin, and no mention of acting or the Cockney accent.

    Bill Dozier got the idea to do a Batman show when the Playboy Mansion had shown the campy 1940s Batman serials for some kind of viewing night they’d have. I don't blame him, he looks great with that mustache, it was a part of who he was. He was a Hollywood heartthrob that women in that era was crazy about and loved him. A regular Latin Rudolph Valentino!😆

    The first African American woman to star in a tv show was, to the best of my knowledge, Hattie McDaniel, who starred in the sitcom Beulah. This was in the 1950s. Before that, she had a radio show, and before that Beulah was the maid for The Great Gildersleeve.

      And like Amos and Andy the naacp helped get both shows canceled they also killed off blaxiplotation films from the 70s.

    Commissioner Gordon wasn't too bright, He can't figure out that Batgirl is his daughter. Also, whenever Batgirl would make one of her quick exits Barbarba Gordon would show up, but no one ever put 2 & 2 together and figured out that Batgirl was Barbarba Gordon. 🤣🤣

    Interesting that NBC wanted the show after the sets were destroyed. Guess they took a very long time to make that decision and then it was too late.
