    Thank you for the video but I did not dissasemble hardly anything to accomplish the upgrade. I simply removed the two screws holding the regulator to that metal plate (which made the plate free to remove, then I removed the plastic knob. Next I spun the regulator off... Replaced the original regulator with fittings to a new high pressure regulator, replaced knob and grill worked as I needed. I did not remove the burner or control valve or the side handle/platform etc. In fact I did not even remove the grates! Just wanted to share with others. Thanks!

    Thank you!! I bought the three gas fittings that you recommended and used yellow tape. I used a GasOne 2106-05 5 ft regulator hose for $9.99 on Amazon. Checked for leaks. Memorial Day the temp only reached about 190°. Today, I had to dial it back as it was approaching 500°! What a freakin' difference!! All for about $20.00. I am so happy!!

    I have to say thanks for the part numbers and got it done to fix my Q2200 which died being only one year old. It's under warranty and I have a replacement part coming from weber support but I like this setup better. The replacement part will be sitting around now. I did one thing different from your setup is I got an adjustable regulator so I can reuse the hose if needed for fireplace, turkey fryer or whatever I need higher psi. Also, I will get an adapter as well to connect the 1lb tanks so it will retain factory options the BBQ came with. Thanks again for sharing the setup.

    Thank you. I just did my Weber Q. Bought the fittings from the Depot and a $16 regulator from harbor freight. She COOKS now! This little grill has always amazed me at how well & even it cooks. Very few hot spots and flare-ups.

    Dude that was awesome I have the same issue just got a new hose, completely degreased the flame tube, changed tanks, flame is about 1/2 of what it was new - gonna try this. I was also appalled at the price of a replacement regulator the Weber is about $78 + shipping right now and the next cheapest down is like $35. Thanks for doing the video!!

    Got the weber 2200 had a year same thing gas regulator seems to be crapping out try it all the fixes I've seen on here With you too. Came to the conclusion it's definitely a regular. Great video simple fix. Even though I have a 2 year warranty through camping world Which is about 45 minutes away from where I live Seems a lot cheaper just to do this. Keep the old 1 and the anything else really crap out put it back together and take it back for the warranty. Great video man thank you a lot!!!

    So I followed all your instructions, went to Home Depot, found the 3 parts and put it all together. Fired up my grill connected to a 20 lb tank and new hose regulator. Absolutely amazing difference. Previously my grill took 10 minutes to reach 375 and would go no higher. Now flames coming through all holes and reached the max temp in like 2 minutes. Thank you so much for instructions and showing those part numbers. I would advise people to order the parts online at home depot if they you don't want to go searching the bins at home depot but I did find what I needed. I'm back grilling again! BTW, I ordered a regulator hose on Amazon that actually came with an adjustable dial which controls the flow of propane but plenty to choose from on Amazon.

    I just did this to my Weber Q2000 and it worked perfectly
    I had about a 1/8” inch flame with the original regulator and my Weber struggled to maintain 400 degrees when cooking
    with the upgrade I had up to a 1 inch flame if I want a high heat option for some “serious searing” capability
    My Weber was running 800 to a 1000 degrees within a few minutes of starting.

    I was in the same predicament about a year after purchasing the Weber Q1200, like some people suggested, cleaned out the burner with a wire wheel than cleared the holes with a wire that I thought was of the approximate diameter of the burner tube holes but didn't really solve the problem so bought a new regulator assembly and was really pissed when the burner still didn't completely light or if it did, took forever and struggled to get to 375F, lived with it for a couple of years and finally decided to get to the bottom of this issue, reamed out the old orifice a few thousands of an inch on the spare gas valve but same results, reinstalled the undrilled orifice and decided to pay more attention to the burner, used the exact sized tapered reamer and cleared every hole once again, reconnected the propane and turned on the gas valve and within a second the entire burner lit and produced a perfect blue flame with no yellow tipping and not jumping off the burner! Temp climbed to 475F in less than 7 mins (no load) before tuning it down, by design I believe this is something that has to be done annually if the BBQ gets a lot of use and as a licensed gas fitter, would not recommend drilling out an orifice or installing a high pressure regulator to solve this problem with these Weber portable BBQ...

      @happycamper5900 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Adrian, I have replaced the regulator and cleaned each hole in the burner only to have the same problem a year later. The upgrade in this video cures the problem.

    • @adrianmeilleur9503
      @adrianmeilleur9503 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@happycamper5900 I understand what you are saying but the problem is with the design of the appliance where there is no real protection from grease or other stuff from falling on the burner so the holes however slow become constricted and will not light, nothing to do with the pressure regulator. Propane appliances are designed to operate at 11" WC roughy 1/3 psi now if you apply say 29"WC or 1 psi pressure to the valve, eventually it won't end well, modifying a gas appliance is illegal and could affect your property insurance in a worst case senecio. I can measure the exact clearance drill size or reamer if that helps someone.

    This is the affordable way to go without running into issues of the knob crashing into the new regulator, or weight issues on the valve (if you just replaced the regulator at the same spot). Also cheaper and faster to replace the hose with regulator if it happens again. You can also still buy an adapter if you need to use the can with the hose. Replacing the regulator definately fixed my flame issue.

    If youre using the hose and a big tank you should open the tank and wait a minute or so before lighting the grill. The safety device might trip otherwise and limit gas flow.

    All was well until I saw that the hose end fitting on my Weber Q 1200 is different from that shown in the video (at 4:36 minutes in). The hose end fitting you are working with has internal threads that accept the 1/4" F-F connector/reducer. But my hose end fitting that came with the grill is much larger with external threads.

  • @sylvietougas9374
    @sylvietougas9374 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Vert good video thanks. However gas fittings don't need teflon or any other tape . Tape on the threads might prevent the tapered mating surfaces of the fittings from making perfect contact. Also the tape will harden and deteriorate over time and could
    eventually cause leaks and risk of fire.

    The regulators on these things are just faulty - i use my grill about 30 times a year for a couple of hours at a time and I've noticed after the year mark, the regulators go bad. Weber is supposed to send me a new one at least so I don't have to get a new grill

  • @Sparkjumper59
    @Sparkjumper59 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Your set up was using two pressure regulators. Running two caused your flow/ temperature problem. The adapter hose had its own regulator( visible when you showed the tank whenever you were testing after removing the grills regulator) and the grill had it regulator ( the part you removed from your grill) you cant run two and have it work correctly. You could have just used the correct tank hose or removed the hose regulator. Long story short you bought the wrong tank hose.

    • @georgecurtis6463
      @georgecurtis6463 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that was the new regulator hose combo that he put on without showing him doing it. Reason is that if he already had it on he would already have had the adapter pieces attached already.

  • @hamish3766
    @hamish3766 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    It looks like you used thread tape on the fitting where the hose first attaches to the adapter. This type of fitting does not seal on the thread, like the other fittings do, and thread tape shouldn't be used.

    You didn't have to do all of that work and spend all of that money to get higher temps and flames. I just got my Q1200 and I couldn't believe I couldn't get higher than 350 degrees after half an hour. The gas is regulator controlled, yes. But the orifice restricts the volume of gas going to the burner. If you increase the orifice opening, you increase the volume of gas to the burner. I can't believe Weber set it up this way. You waste so much propane trying to get up to temp. Of course the design of the burner and grates means you would burn everything you cook without some sort of heat dispersion device. As for the orifice. You don't need to buy special orifice drills. All you need is your wife's needle sharp tweezers, stainless steel. Remove the burner, take the tweezer, insert one point/leg of the tweezer into the orifice opening. Start to ream out the opening. The orifice is soft brass so it is easy to enlarge. You only need to enlarge it slightly. Put the burner back in, test the flame, if still too small ream out a bit more. Test again until you get a flame that is about double what you started with. Too large and you mess up the flame, too much gas. I want to get just enough gas flowing through that it can get to a little over 500 degrees in 15 minutes preheating and hold at that temp. If you have the orifice teamed out properly, you can instantly hear the gas flowing to the burners, where before, you couldn't even tell if gas was flowing to the burner at all. The telltale hissing.

      @donwhitehead4587 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
