A point of note, which I think it is VERY important: connect your SSD to a computer first and update the firmware, especially for Samsung. The day 1 firmware kept the ssd under optimal performance, which Samsung addressed with a firmware update.
EDIT: this was an issue with Samsung 980PRO 2tb at launch and sometime after. Some comments below suggest this is no longer the case, as Samsung updates them before they go on sale. Regardless, the PS5 will test any connected SSD and give a short report on how it performs, letting you know if you need to update the firmware or not.

Been wanting to get one of these for my ps5 now if only Xbox would lower the price of theirs!! But honestly the consoles should have come with 2tb out the box! To many new games are pushing closer to that 100gb mark some are getting close to 200gb so with 2tb total you should get a good 20-30 games unless every game you play is massive. But I have a feeling once we leave last gen behind more and more games will be surpassing that 100gb mark!

    • @douglassmith9445

This has always been an anomaly to me as well. 2tb memory has been the standard for an xbox and playstation since 2018 and yet the newest consoles still have 500gb out of the box. Very poor decision from the developers. So what if the system costs an extra hundred dollars 500gb doesnt cut it and is a slap in the face since 100% buy excess storage because these companies force us to.

From there, I already stated based off the first comment from Boosted DC2 that people would be willing to pay the extra amount since everyone eventually wants the extra storage space anyways. Charging an extra hundred bucks doesn’t hurt all that much when you’re already dropping 500.

I got a great deal on mine, I actually got the 2TB version for $119.99, I haven't had the time to install it yet.
I wasn't planning on getting an M.2 for my PS5 for some time because I was waiting for prices to go down, mainly because I wanted at least 2TB and I knew I would have to wait some time before they became affordable.
How did I get mine for so cheap? Well, I got lucky. I was wondering around Best Buy and noticed the 2TB, in the locked cage, listed as $119.99 and immediately got an employee to get it out for me. When it came time to purchase, it rang up as $199.99 but they confirmed that it happened to be placed on the wrong peg, peg was for the 1TB, and because that's what I saw and the employee saw when he grabbed it, they ended up price matching the 2TB to $119.99.
    Lucky me, lol.

I respectfully have to disagree with you on the 980 pro.
The max speed I could get out of it was 5500.
Sony recommends at least 5500 minimum.
I bought the 980 pro and was not happy.
I also noticed that the games I loaded on the ssd were a tiny bit glitchy vs being on the ps5’s drive. Nothing major just small things wouldn’t work as they were supposed to (as the game loaded the display would show characters outside of the game world, T-posed. It also would show first person or third person perspective when it should not, etc)
    I upgraded to the Seagate.
There are rumors about Samsung releasing products and once they have positive reviews they lower the quality to save money but do not tell the public and continue to charge the same price.
I wish someone would do a comparison of two 980 pro m.2 ssd’s. One the original released ssd and the second a recent version to see if there’s a noticeable dip in quality and performance.
I don’t think we’ll ever see that test but it would be nice to find out whether the rumors are true or not.
Just my thoughts and experience with it.

Like, is there a difference in speed/convenience/performance when trying to choose between the two types? I don’t mind spending more money on a product if it truly makes a difference in performance. PlayStation planed this from the beginning. Witch is form of entrapment. They built the place for the component yet they did not put it in. It is not an upgrade it is a missing part. If it is not a missing part. Then why is they had convent compartment made just for the SSD to fit in perfect. and especially if the compartment is only made for the SSD. Then they planned to entrap all of there customers from the beginning. This should be a recall not an upgrade. It be like Ferrari
    selling you a Ferrari Testarossa
with a Ford Engine in it. yet they left everything thing to put Ferrari Testarossa
right in no problem. At the same time Ferrari would sell you the Ferrari Testarossa
engine and call it an upgrade. It is double dipping & entrapment. You gamers are stupid. I will stick to my pc it runs faster and better then a game console any day of the week.

A year ago was the WORST electronics shortage ever...some chips were 10 times their normal price level, due to pandemic and total lockdown in China.
