this is very humbling that mexico would honour those irish men to this day. we are more alike than we know
I’m Irish.. and would’ve never guessed that St Patrick’s Day celebrations would be so amazing in Mexico City!
Rhya Weafer México loves Irish people for the saint Patrick s battalion
Hi!
Can please see a video called "The San Patricios Battalion"?
Is based on a true history, we mexicans, love and respect Irish :)
Viva Irlanda!!! ❤❤❤
Erin go Bragh!
🎶
From Dublin City to San Diego,
We witnessed freedom denied,
So we formed the St. Patrick's Battalion
And we fought on the Mexican side....🎶
🇨🇮🤝🇲🇽
An Irish descendant here, my great grand father was the first generation of Irish - Mexican born on my family lineage. The Linn, McConellies, Rice, and Kellies and other families settled down on the pacific coast.
Unfortunately, no, my great grand father came through Sonora, he was the first machinist of the northern Mexican rail road line. Later on, he and my grand mother settled in Sinaloa, Mazatlán to be precise, were most of the families I mentioned settled as well. The Kelly's were tequila producers, the Rice's naval manufacturers, and the others seem to scape my mind now what they did. My great grand father father's was generation cero in Mexico, he came through the Guaymas port in Sonora.
But seems they came around the same time, because many of them are no more than 3 or four generations.

What an interesting story about the Saint Patrick's Battalion. That's the sort of thing they never teach in Canada or the U.S., but I bet they are like folk heroes in Mexico :)
On St Patrick and everyday the Irish are remembered
Dan's video was awesome too!
There is a monument dadicated to the San Patricios Batallion in San Angel district.
The New Travel there are more stories like that, but those aren't stories that the States or Canadá are interested to teach about.
The New Travel The U.S. govt definitely didn’t teach us this in school, it’s something I -as a Mexican-American-learned from Chicano studies and Mexican history that I personally had to go looking for.
Irish American, dad from Limerick very proud de los San Patricio's and grateful for the common heritage we have because of them. I live in San Francisco and am a member of an Irish-Mexican association. We celebrate Los San Patricio's, Saint Patrick's day and Cinco de Mayo.
How do I join
@@fabsagu5421 you can find them on face book.
Ok. But Cinco de Mayo is NOT our Independence Day. The main day is September 16th.
@@ferchorps2224 only LOS GRINGOS celebrate 5 de mayo!

Viva Mexico 🇲🇽 from 🇮🇪 Ireland brothers and sisters ✊💯
Javier Morales wow interesante 😀😀

Woow the Cetlic's Pub is still alive! I'm glad the batallon San Patricio is becoming a Mexican tradition now, they deserve to be remembered as part of the country's history.

It's been a Mexican tradition, it's not new.

SHOCKING!... St. Patrick's day in Mexico?... I wish haters watch this, and learn from it.
It’s pure history of the beautiful Mexico! Thank you 🇮🇪 Ireland!
Wow I never would have thought this took place in Mexico.
Scott Paterson we have all kind of celebrations, in this huge multicultural city...your welcome to come and visit us,I been living here for two years still surprised of this beautiful city
Scott ~of course Mexico is a Christian country, predominantly a Caucasian, Democratic, and is in North America😈
* * Erin Go Bragh * *
Look up the saint Patrick's battalion they defected from the us army and served with mexico
John Riley will never be forgotten!
Irish...the Mexicans of Europe and yes "El Batallón de San Patricio" áre consider like national heroes the fact is that are the only foreing heroes of México
That is so interesting! I never thought of it like that before researching St. Patricks day
Not only Mina was foreign
Kinetic Kennons Yes The irish living in Texas at that time fought the americans along the Mexicans They didn't want Texas to taken by americans Google it! Very interested truth story in mexican history I am so happy you enjoy living in my city
Also "Gonzalo Guerrero" a spanish how married with a mayan woman and become general and fought against the spanish conquerors in 1519
It is well documented that The then US Army did incurred in several atrocities, in Matamoros and in Monterrey against civils and religious groups during the war... nuns were raped and murdered when they did not represented a threat at all.
Such actions triggered the unrest and dislike among the minority of Catholics at the US troops.
The Battalion was duly formed and equipped by the Mexican Army but to the US they were taken as traitors and after the Churubusco battle, many were executed after a summary unfair trial.
There are several initiatives from Catholic groups in Mexico City that are seeking to canonize the San Patricio's Battalion members that were hung as martyrs, because the main reason why they decided to defend Mexico from what many consider an unfair and dishonorable war, was the defense of their faith.
There is also a strong legal defense stating that they did not defected from the US Army but instead they asked for their proper discharge that was not granted and that they were severely mistreated by the officers just for being catholics and foreigners. The territory were they were hired by the Mexican Army was in legal international dispute so technically they did not defected nor were traitors either.
Mexican can go to Ireland to study, vacation, or even to live there way more easily than USA, UK, Australia, because of the nice relationship between the two countries
we actually saw people in the parade advertising study abroad in Ireland!
Éirinn go Brách! Remembering Captain John Riley and the brave irish soldiers from the St. Patrick's Battalion whom fought on our side on that cruel and injust war... Ireland, forever on your debt!
Thank you for this video. John Rilley, a hero whose name appears in gold letters in the chambers of the Mexican congress.
I taught high school in the USA. A great majority of my students were first or second generation Mexican-Americans. I taught them about "El Glorioso Batallon de San Patricio".
It was an experience for me. Years later, I had former students tell me they had visited "el museo de las intervenciones" in Coyoacan, showed me pictures they took with a John Rilley statue also in Coyoacan, some, while serving in the military in Europe, had actually been to Ireland. Happy St. Patricks Day to ALL. ERIN GO BRAGH!!!!
I made a difference in a small way.
Riley descendant here! we don't always celebrate St Patrick's but my family is pretty close, we organize a party once a year where we see each other and stay in touch, There are Riley descents all over the south of Mexico, Veracruz, Chiapas and Campeche.
Very interesting! Wow
God bless the Irish people!!!
Mexicans and Irish are the same we love soccer boxing and lots of 🍻
And both are catholics, even the flag is similar... haha.
And partying people, "fiesteros", strong and bold. We also love beer, shouting and dancing.
+Melissa Colin T. I am Colin too from my mum's side who is full Mexican, you Irish? I am Irish and Cornish ~my great grand dad from Cornwall, England then came to Pachuca, Hidalgo for the mines!😉
So does most of the world. Lol
Guillermo jimenez Soccer is popular but so is our code of football gaelic football
Thanks guys, your videos show how Cosmopolitan Mexico City is and help dispell wrong prejudments about Mexico.
Yep you were right on the historical facts and you will never heard about it on the US history like when the US army took over cChapultepec s castle and they hanged the st Patrick's batallion soldiers while they watched. The Mexican flag going down and replacing it with the US flag but that is enough about sadness lol I am glad you guys had fun sordid I too much green beer lol
The San Patricios saw how the American Protestants treated the Catholic population of Mexico was similar to how the British had treated them back in Eire
But there has been Irish immigration especially to raise cattle in northern Mexico along the border with the US.
René Moncayo it's also because they were treated poorly in the US army. Irish immigrants were NOT treated well in the US for a longtime.
It was a combination of factors that made them switch over.
I Love What you are doing Let The World No That In Mexico is Multicultural And Frendly People
Paco Channel very true Mexico is so inviting
Laura George y Si Saludos
Thank you Paco!
Kinetic Kennons You Welcome You Guys are The # 1 On You Tube 😁😁😉😉
There is a movie that they made about those Irish men from the Mexican American war. It’s called “One mans hero”. It’s a great movie to learn about that historic time.
God bless the Irish the lost there lifes in the Mexican American war they will never be forgotten.
I'm surprised at how many people in the comments are surprised to see this in Mexico, Mexico and Ireland have a long history also with a large amount out Mexicans of Irish descent including one of the people running for president in Mexico right now.. great video and good job informing people of history
Meade has Irish ancestry?
Can you hear me Major Tom? Yes Irish and Lebanese
Andres Reyes Also former President Vicente Fox is German, French and Spanish i think, i know not Irish but it just shows how many ethnicities you find in Mexico
Can you hear me Major Tom? Correct but for many years it was reported in the media that he was Irish in some articles I've read say the fox family themselves even thought they were Irish till they found out differently that's why some of the comments below say fox is Irish but you are right they must not be updated .....and I agree there are many different ethnicities in Mexico that sometimes I don't think the mass public realize they just think everyone is Mexican ( which is true but there is more to it)
I didn't know about St.Patrick's Battalion, I think is pretty cool, cheers my Irish Catholic brothers.
From Dubling City to San Francisco we watch freedom deny so we form the San Patricio's Batallion and fought in the Mexican side. They said no to tiranny they fought along their Mexican catholic brothers to find out the Catholic church already pick sides. How ironic? the church refused to finance the Mexican army.
Respect to our Irish Brothers!!! ERIN GO BRAUGH
Saludos gueros!!!

This is SO, SO cool! I had no idea this parade went on in Mexico. Thanks guys! The dancing was memorable guera.
They don't have one from QRO?
The “Saint Patricks battalion” fought in my city and we have schools and streets by their name.
As an Irish girl who recently moved to Mexico, this is really cool!
That's awesome! How did you end up here in Mexico??
Kinetic Kennons , Well my little family are from San Diego and just moved across the border to Tecate. My boyfriends family is from here and we decided it was easier to raise our 2 daughters here. With one income its so much more affordable
La Güera is officially addicted to the chips with Valentina
Garth Kelly If I'm right, you're asking why is there a commemorative plaque so far from the capital, correct? Many Irish settled on the Pacific coast of our beautiful country.
I was there last year and I saw the plaque, it was quite moving.
Garth Kelly .. john Reilly is or was a singer or poet, or something weird like that, lol.. nothing to do with John Patrick O'Reiley.. the U.S history erased O'Reiley and his battalion. How could they say, oh, they thought we were unjust and thieves, and murderers, that's why they deserted, kind of see their point you know, but, we mexicans remember them, they were brothers, and died as heroes.
Garth Kelly yes it was named in honor to O'reiley's batallon de san patricio in fact many cities if not all have a street or colonia named after the batallon. I know for sure that there is a street called batallon de san patricio in Guadalajara...hope this answered your question.
That is surprising that they celebrate st. Patricks day. Thank you for explaining to us why. I always learn so much in your videos.
Mexicans born wherever they want including Ireland... thank you St . Patrick batallion, such kind of heros for fighting along the mexican troops against american army in 1847 our country and our people remind you with too much love and gratitude
This town where I live is mostly Irish and English ( o descendientes) , has 4 huge St. Patrick's Day celebrations, 3 yesterday and one next Saturday in my hood. I like the one in CDMX, looks like a lot of fun in the pub! and those dogs!!! Cheers weros!
wow-that sounds like an awesome celebration!
When Texas was still a possession of Mexico, the Mexican Government recruited Irish (both from Ireland and from U.S. East Coast cities like New York or Baltimore) to settle on land grants in what is now South Texas. There was a dual reason for this recruitment, Mexicans generally did not want to settle there because of the frequent Comanche raids and Mexico wanted the Irish Catholics as a buffer against the Anglos coming into Texas from Louisiana. My Third Great Grandfather was among those recruited and he and his family settled on a Mexican Land Grant in what is now Bee County, Texas in 1829...
Goyo with all do respect la güera is Gorgeous you are a lucky guy.
I 100% agree! haha
Honor a los valientes, iiiVivan México e Irlanda!!!!
William Lamoart , or don GUILLEN DE LAMPART , is the one of the first people tried to achieve Mexican independence from Spain ( yes , we have an Irish independence Hero ) it’s remains , among some other independence heroes are buried on the base of the Angel de la independencia at paseo de la reforma Feliz día de san Patricio !
Mi respeto y reconocimiento a los héroes Irlandeses mexicanos de el batallón de san Patricio ( some Germans too in this batallón)
Fantastic fantástico amigos you make cry ST Patrick day feel me si proud to be Mexican.
I had no idea that Saint Patrick's day were so important for us (mexicans). I'm from Sonora and I've never heard the story about irish fighting with us in the mexican-american war!! So interesting!!! Thanks for teaching this mexican a little bit more about her country! My regards from Sonora!
And there are many more things about Mexican history that have been omitted
RoxypoxY ... it was something it was thought in elementary school!!!
Tranquila.
Hey guys! I think I saw you yesterday! I went to celtics pub to drink but it was too crowded so I stayed in the nextdoor bar. There where some "gringos" 😉 outside that in retrospective looked like you do in this video. It would've been nice to say hi.
haha that's asweomse! It was packed in there wasn't it!?
Kinetic Kennons Yes! But I think I've seen it busier at night. The green beer was cool though. I'm glad you had a good time yesterday.
If you are into war drama's there is a movie called One Man's Hero that tells the story of El Battalion de St. Patrick. It was a US production starring Paul Newman and a famous Mexican singer/actress named Daniela Romo. From what I can remember, It was more of a love story than a history lesson ; it is worth a Netflix watch.
Cool, I didnt know about the movie.. I am going to watch it.
It's actuality Tom Berenger not Pual Newman.
My father's mother was a descendent of one of the San Patricios spanishing with the time her last name from Scott to escoto and mixing with the rest of the country
I never knew St Patrick day was so big in Mexico.
Guys guys, "AHORITA" means, "IS GOING TO BE READY WHENEVER IS READY", we Mexicans don't complicate our life with schedules and times and such things,
haha we agree :)
There has been an important Irish migration to Mexico from even before Mexican independence. More recent migrants have settled in many different states of the Republic. There are many Irish-Mexicans of note. Have you ever heard of a Mexican actor and artist called Anthony Quinn? or of architect Juan O'Gorman (Diego and Fridas houses in San Ángel)? One of the current candidates for president of Mexico is José A. Meade. Regards.
Good morning guy's I hope you got a beautiful Sunday

THat's as authentic as it gets!!

U2 are not particularly liked in Ireland for being pretentious.
Interesting historical facts. Thanks for sharing. What I find even more fascinating is seeing Mexicans embrace elements of a completely different culture -hornpipe playing and Irish dancing, and perfect it like their own! Very multicultural!
thanks for your nice words!
Busybee a lot of those Mexicans are decendent of Irish immigrants so the culture is actually theirs
Even more interesting. Thx
Yeap👍 There is a very tight friendship between Mexico and Ireland. In fact, UNAM honored that relationship adopting the colors Gold and Navy Blue from The University of Notre Dame. 😎 Both schools had have very close ties. 👍😎👍
it was more irish than in Chicago
Its true. Alot of irish ppl lived in puebla. My great great grandpa (mi tatarabuelo) was half irish and his father came with his irish family from usa because he was pretty much exiled. Mexico gave them love and acceptance and im happy to have a irish last name Moran!

Red head boxer Canelo Alvarez, there are many Mexicans of Irish decent. We are a mixture of Aztec and European ancestry. We have more in common than most Americans know. Great video Kennons .
Good morning wüeritos! Glad you guys enjoyed St. Patrick's day in CDMX, it looked so much fun. I'm glad you gave a brief history of the Irish holiday, not many people are aware of the connection between Mexico and Ireland during St. Patrick's day, and that is why Mexico has always felt a special bond towards the Irish. Just in case you guys are still a little more curious learning about St. Patrick's, there is a movie called One Man's Hero, starting Tom Berenger, Daniela Romo and Mark Moses. In my opinion, it was a good movie to watch. I totally recommend it. Have a wonderful Sunday.
It was really fun. Thank you so much for sharing more history on the day!
Goyo and Wera it would be intriguing to see you visit some of the various colonies from around the world in Mexico. From German, Jewish, Nordic, Arabic, Chinese, Polynesian, Persian, Mormon, Mennonite, Amish. They're all there. That is somehow a secret that is never taught or talked about outside of Mexico and very, very few American's know about.
Why Mexico is cool, we've got a pelting pot of all types of ppl and culture white, black, asian, Polish even Germans, called Mennonite and many more peeps. Yes, you are correct about the history of how the Irish teamed up with Mexico. 🇲🇽 🍀 Happy St. Patty's
Wow! That was so cool!! I really enjoyed the parade! The pub was packed but looked so festive and fun! I've never had a green beer. One of these days hopefully.
Wera is a cute little Leprechaun. 💚

Good morning guys.
Thanks for showing to the world how beautiful mi mexico es
Thank you so much!
We Mexicans honor our warriors. Especially the Irish. The fought to protect us. Women and children. They fought alongside native americans and mexicans. Killing the innocent is wrong. They were catholic and stood beside us. They are the only european race to b considered native american and mexican. Their tribe name was Los Chapolinas, the Grasshopper people. . 🤗
great video! Thanks guys for sharing part of irish history
I did not know that there were Irish parade in Mexico👍
there are over 2 million irish descendants in México they're mostly settled in states like Chihuahhua and Veracruz
Great vid and great info. I must say, once again, you guys stumped me with bits of history. I didn’t know that about the Irish soldiers who just stayed in Mexico. And its interesting that this comes soon after your video on the subject of racism. I guess it’s a great historical example on how Mexico welcomes all, regardless of color or creed.
Welcome to my home town and beautiful city güeros lol... CDMX❤🇲🇽
Greetings from Seattle, WA 😊
Really enjoyed this video you guys! You two have actally filmed the bust of John Riley a commander of the San Patricio Battalion in your visits to Plaza San Jacinto in San Ángel district. So many years ago but Mexicans still show their appreciation for the Irish and other Europeans that joined their cause during that war. Looked like fun, loved seeing that parade and the performers.
I was born in Mexico and found this out when me and my family came out with some Irish in our ancestry dna tests. We are very mixed but I think its a whole other story
Viva rhe San Patricks Batallon, they had descendientes here in Mexico. We remember them trully. VIVAN LOS HEROES. ❤
Ahora sí me sorprendieron.
There is one in Mexicali too. Much love to the Irish Brothas. Down with the English up with the Irish. 👍

I am so grateful for my 8th grade history teacher who taught us all about this war and their sacrifice, I’m sure if I had gotten any other teacher I would be clueless on this topic
Very close Ireland and Mexico that's why our best boxing fighter today Canelo Alvarez is a light skin redhead mexican
Do you think he will win!?
Sure
parrish6696 I think he's gonna kick some arse
That final "qué chido eh!" of la güera sounded muy mexicano.
Kinetic Kennons: Hola, Goyo y Güerita linda!
Very enjoyable vlog. As always, I ALWAYS appreciate and enjoy the history/background/education on the story. :-)
I think the first Irish band are all mexicans. I guess you already know what a "cantina" is, but I think the word for pub is Taberna... I might be wrong.
Probably this is the best video I ever see from you guys u really enjoyed so good keep on
