- This week I’m covering another highly requested character analysis, the primera espada, Coyote Starrk. He is the most powerful member of Aizen’s army, and helps him during the battle in Fake Karakura Town. Starrk battles the captain Shunsui. Through his final battle we learn a lot about this quiet and reserved Arrancar. We experience the subtle revelations about his character which allow us to understand why Starrk felt alone, and how his feelings regarding his solitude change in his final moments.

Wish Starrk would still be alive. His character has so much potential. I would’ve loved to see him alive and teaming with Grimmjow to take down the Wandenreich
@Snake I think it wouldn't work because Ulquiorra would never work after the realization of "the heart". Ulquiorra's arc was really good, and having him survive or come back would ruin it. He would stop being the character he is untill the end of his fight. If ulquiorra was a slightly different character, the yeah

well he is alive, he is probably somewhere in the Soul Society ressurected with an immense spiritual pressure, and right now Lillynette is trying to wake him up cause he is late to his first Gotei 13 Academy class :D

he does do that though. all the espada get reborn by Mayuri. he didn't help grimjow because it wasn't necessary.

Aizen's reaction of attacking Harribel after Starrks death, proves how important he was to the overall group.
Here’s a fun fact. The theme that plays for Stark when he dies is the same theme that is used when Ichigo is discussing Aizen’s defeat with Urahara. I believe this is purposefully done because Ichigo comments on the loneliness in Aizen’s blade and how Aizen may have been seeking an equal, just like stark. Another great video my man!
Now the moment Aizen recruits Stark has new context expecially when you consider in stark (heh) contrast to his meeting with Barragan he didn't have Gin or Tosen with him. It was just him alone and his words now seem sincere. Also it always struck me how little coersion was needed for Stark to join him. He just asked him.

This us very true however I think the writers only had ichigo say that tho give us the whole relatable side to the bad guy shtick. Aizen b4 or after that 1 moment never came off as lonely.

@Embodiment of destruction If only the same could be said for the Shinigami. Total Fatalities: Zero. Overall effectiveness of the Espada as a threat: None. They felt too inconsequential.
To be blunt, it didn't actually feel like a war.
@Embodiment of destruction Not saying that a lot of them should have died. Just enough for the Espada have an actual impact. Toshiro, Ikakku, and a few of the Vizordes should have been axed off.

@@chrismanzano-mallison2812 I agree. In any war there are significant casualties. And the Espada were hyped up to be a serious threat. To the point where they said Aizen only needed 10 or so Vasto Lorde Espada to destroy the soul society.
A few captains should have been axed during the conflict as well as some lieutenants and Visored like you said. There is a serious lack of tension in most of the fights because you have the feeling that none of the characters from the protagonist's side are in any way going to lose their lives.
From what I hear TYBW does actually kill off some significantly prominent characters, which makes Ywach and the Quincies feel insanely dangerous and makes the Espada seem like punching bags in comparison. Which is a shame cause the Espada are pretty damn cool in spite of that.
Even Momo survived. Through a second impalment! Through the chest!
What's actually amazing is even Aizen acknowledged Starrk's strength so much that he was watching the battle like a spectator till Starrk was fighting but as soon as Starrk died Aizen just went to haribell and killed her like he gave up all hopes on all Arrancars.

For all his talk about his organs being the one thing he couldn't heal and them getting destroyed in his fight with Ichigo, he was still able to fight and talk for awhile after the fact. But when he finally understood what the "heart" was, he died almost immediately. After all, finding meaning in existence directly contradicts his aspect of death, something he embodied since the moment he was "born"

@@corruptangel6793 because Ulqiorra wasn't loneliness, he was nihilism embodiement. if you keep watching each espada's meaning, (almost) everyone died when they came to the realization of their counterpart. Barragan thought he was immortal, but died when he realized that he was been able to harm himself, Starrk thought he was lonely, but died knowing he wasn't, Ulqiorra believed in nihilism, yet he died with the realization of the possibility of something being there worth to fight for.
It's amazing how death of the espada "completed" them in a way
They are hollows - they lack something, and they die when that void is filled
like Starrk dying after realization that he wasn't lonely, Ulquiorra after gaining heart or even Yammy who died only after his dog calmed him down

@@mistywoods6560 i would have done a hole character arc of him turning against izen,after that he saw Izen gazing spawn his defeated comrades with no remorse, Stark could have started doubting his rank as a ''friend ''in Izens eyes,count that with Stark not wanting to fight,he could have joined the good guys,after that reformed Los noches in his way and in his vision,mind you i came up with this right here on the spot and its already batter then him just dieing like a nameless background character,or maybe just some character finalisation before the fake karakura town fight,like now Grimmjaw turned from a discount Hisoka clone to his own character

Man, the wolf doodles absolutely shattered me.
Also, as much as I would've liked for Starrk to reform, I wouldn't wanna see him get killed by The Quincy. Losing to Shunsui is an honorable enough send-off albeit a little underwhelming.
Yeah, his death its specially sad for me, because, even though Starrk and Shunsui are one of the strongest in their kind, they don't like fighting. They prefer relaxing, talking to each other, with a cup of sake or tea. They are just forced because of their sides to forcefully kill each other. I'm very sure both of these characters would form a good friendship, because Starrk was friendly enough to Shunsui that he proposed to pretend fighting each other, while Shunsui was sad that he killed Starrk.
I guess this really is a nice representation of what it feels like to kill another person you can relate to in a war. Man, I really wanted to see Starrk be the Espada that lives on, what a shame he died.
Not to mention shunsui was about to use bankai which is what starrk sadly didn't get to see
I feel like if he had survived the war, he would have been free to pursue Shunsui and be friends with him. And if he was destined to die against the quincies, at least he would have had some time to spend with Shuinsui, and know what it was like to have a real friend. I'm sure he would have been good friends with Ukitake as well.
That seems so much better than what he got. Aizen was no real friend to him, and the Espada were no real friends to each other, either. Starrk even commented on this how no Espada mourned the death of their comrades.
On the bright side, I guess he’s in Hell with other souls that were too strong to reincarnate
@@Abdega i think that only applies to captains , hollow still get purified and sent to soul society i think, the espada shown in hell were probably evil as hell even before they were espada .
For those who are wondering why Stark didn't fight anyone who released their Bankai,its because the dude fought 4 captain level shinigami 2 of which are seniors who trained with Yamomoto himself, 1 of those two eventually became the Captain Commander.
Also idk if its on purpose but did anyone noticed that when Shunsui defeated Stark it was kind of a foreshadow to Shunsui becoming the Captain Commander the Captain of Squad 1 because he fought the Primera Espada No.1? Anyone or its just me? Lol
and I also noticed he gets an eye patch just like starrk had in his release form, I might be overthinking it tho

Despite knowing that they all had been nothing but pawns in Aizen's schemes, Stark still died grateful to him.

I literally scrolled down the comment section in search of someone who pointed this out. I will be honest, that nickname caught me off guard and made me chuckle.
Man Starkk is a very underrated character he's my favorite Espada besides Grimmjow I wish he was shown as more powerful as people often think he's actually the 3rd strongest.
Can we all pause for a moment and appreciate the analysis and the editing on it?
Starrk is one of the coolest characters in Bleach. He had such a cool design and was a bad-ass.
Naturally Starkk isn't willing to avenge death of his comrades. If he did, then he'd have to consider himself as someone to take revenge at as well. As someone who have killed everyone he could consider a comrade just by existing, up until meeting Aizen. (everyone dies due to being exposed by his overwhelming reiatsu, just to be clear on what I mean)

Never forget that when Starrk was fighting Shunsui and starting to lose, he said something along the lines of "Why do I have to fight someone so strong?"
In my opinion, he didn't mean that in the sense of he was almost dying and wishing that his opponent was any weaker, but, rather, that why after all his time searching for a friend did he finally find someone that he can seemingly relate to so well and not overwhelm with his reiatsu, i.e. Shunsui, did he then have to fight that person.
That's my take on it and it's honestly really sad. I know loneliness too.....so I kind of know Starrk. If I were him, I would feel that way too.

I love this analysis series.
Starrk was a great character and I wish he survived. He lived alone for years, watching most of his comrades die in front of him only made his feelings of isolation even worse. He only friend was Lillynette and she died later on. I cannot imagine the pain he must have endured. The more you look into Starrk the more tragic he becomes.
For a future video could you please talk about Tosen? He is more complex and nuanced when you really explore his motivations.

I find it funny people actually think barragan (however u spell it) is stronger than stark when stark fought the strongest captain's their with little problems while barragan lost to a soi fon and a vice captain

@@jayvon221 eh he really lost to hachi, and honestly hachi is pretty op, he’s extremely strong granted that he was only the vice captain of the kido corps, however he is without a doubt captain level and on top of that he has his vizard mask that boosts his stats tremendously, hachi’s hax was tge perfect counter for barragan’s hax. Without hachi joining the fight soi fon and omaeda would’ve died.

In fairness it was really Barragans own power that was his undoing and it too a great risk in order to do it
It's that they confuse power with broken ability. Barragan had a broken ability, but he was by no means more powerful than Starrk.

Stark is my fav. So strong. So lonely. If I was a self insert I’d befriend him. All he needed in life is someone there for him.
I’m mad we didn’t see starks full power even thought lilinette insisted it. I understand though, he isn’t much of a fighter he just wants comrades to avoid loneliness
Could it be that each Espada also represents Aizen's own fears and suffering?
You'd have to explain Harribel, then, as her aspect of death is sacrifice. Sacrifice is something Aizen did, not suffered, and he clearly did not fear it.
@@Exxt3R which is the reason he sacrificed her aka "killed" her on his own calling the Espada useless. Another way to see it is that Aizen sacrificed his own humanity once he saw the true figure of the Soulking and thus leading him onto his villainous path.
Could be your on to something🤔. I personally believe they were given specific powers to counter the Gotei 13 perfectly. You can match them up to their counterparts almost perfectly

The scene where Lilynette dies is one of the saddest in the series at least in my opinion. Its i belive the only scene where we can see Starrk express emotions.

Usually when characters are done so powerful that they destroy things on a simple glance it gets to be poor and very quickly, I feel as though Kubo really did starrk justice and this type of character in general
COYOTE STARRK INVENTED HIS RESURRECCION IN A CAVE!! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!!
I think Stark is an interesting character considering he is an arrancar. Arrancar are shinigamified hollows, but Stark doesn't act like a hollow at all. He doesn't have the survival instinct or aggressive fighting style of a hollow. He is born so strong, that he has never felt to be serious which is kinda ironic to be his downfall.
This actually disappointed me because Stark didn't feel like he lived up to his status as No. 1 (well, according to Yammy Stark isn't even the strongest). He fought multiple captains but I never felt real danger. Love and Rose felt more shafted than make Stark impressive IMO.
I hope you talk about the Zanpakuto of the Shinigami since, besides Ichigo's, seem to reflect who they really are or how they behave. If Kyoraku is a liar, then Aizen takes it up to a whole new level.
I would say he is the strongest due to his pure reiatsu amount
The only other character to ever have so much reiatsu at normal state that it could kill other so far is only Starrk, even Aizen cannot do that until he get to the second Hogyoku form
And maybe Aizen partly saw himself inside Starrk as both are quite lonely due to their power it just that one express that loneliness while one try to hide it
When you think about it, Stark always had the human like form, Lillynette as well. Which makes me believe that Stark may be a Vasto Lorde before meeting Aizen, same as with Ulquiorra, as they both had their masks removed prior to meeting Aizen.

Starrk is a great concept that sadly went underutilized. Really most of the Espada have this issue outside of Grimmjow and Ulquiorra.
And for the number one Espada to go down to guys not even using Bankai felt incredibly underwhelming. He never felt like the number 1 and really reflected the inability of the Espada to live up to the initial hype Kubo created for them.
There must always be a Stark. Whether Ned, Coyote or Tony.
Starrk, Halibel, and Nelliel would be amazing rulers of Heuco Mundo. Why did Grimmjow survive, while Ulquiorra and Starrk had to die? ;-;

Starrk was not the most powerful. Ulquirorra and Yammy were the most powerful espada and the fact that the two of them alone had a segunda etapa should tell you that.
You say that yet u know that they both had second release form and stark had to split himself into two and he neither needed Aizens hogyocu to be more powerful like ulqiorra who said he used the hogyocu to attain the second form
Random comment but I find it interesting/meaningful at the fact that Cayote Stark is surrounded by wolves instead of cayotes, almost to signify that despite feeling out of place he longs for company/ belonging, even though he stands out from the rest. It's almost a physical representation/manifestation of his inner feelings. Overall an awesome character with such depth👌

This is the only death that I regretted--Cyote Starrk was such a cool character, I hated to see him lose--especially like that.
Stark is probably the youngest Espada, or, at the very least, one of the youngest. In Stark's flashback, Aizen is already donning his Hueco Mundo attire, his glasses are gone and his hair is slick back. This implies that he was only recently added to the Espada ranking, sometime between the Soul Society and Heuco Mundo arcs.
Most likely but he could also always just slick hair back and take glasses off whenever he leaves soul society
@broggy52 Not necessarily. In all of his pre-exile flashbacks (TBTP, EBTR, etc.) He appears with his glasses and curly hair. Even when appearing before Barragan, he has his older attire.

Thing I noticed rereading the Manga was that Stark had Lillinette join with him as Shinsui started making threats to attack her. They were offhanded comments like "Ukitake won't do anything funny to her..." and such. He asks Shinsui if "all captain's bankai's are that powerful?" in reference to the ones the other captains popped. I think that was the point that, yes, he needed to get serious in the fight, but to get Lillinette out of the crossfire. The safest place for her was in his hands.
Coyote is why I despise Shisui. This man could have been left alone and he would have done nothing but sat his ass down and watched.
I wish Staark survived somehow. With Aizen defeated, Starrk would have been free to look for Shunsui to be friends with him. Such an endearing character. He didn't want to fight, he just wanted to not be lonely. :(

This is the point in which I started hating Kyoraku. Used to love the guy until this arc. Felt like everything he did in this fight was out of character because in the past he'd show mercy to his foes and he abhorred the idea of killing them. Best example is when he faced Chad for the first time.. All of this made him out to be a hypocrit. Though I'll be honest, I really didn't like this arc as a whole, my biggest problem with Kubo's writing is that Stark's death felt forced, like it was there for shock factor. Kubo brought back Luppi and one of the other arrancars that served Barragan and that really annoyed me. He had no reason to bring them back, but if he already did then why not bring back Starrk?
I'm certain that if Starrk was as popular as someone like Byakya then his fate would've turned out differently, or at the very least he would have had some more development before his final moments.. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what I have to say, it's just a shame really, I've watched this anime two years ago and I'm still impacted by this; guess it goes to show how immersive the universe of bleach is right? Still, this felt like a forced, but ultimately avoidable fight and that's the biggest gripe I have with it..

The reason Aizen made Starrk the Primera Espada was because he had more pure Reiatsu than the rest of the Espadas, but in terms of combat capability he was lacking because he never really bothered.
I wish he just continued with his nap when he got knocked down. He would have lived and its hilarious
And he's probably the only "natural" Arrancar, right? He did not need Aizen's help, for when they met, Starrk had already broken his mask (which is probably why he had the most unique way to use Ressureccion)
Haribel uql barragan and stark (the top four) were all natural born
He was born an Arrancar. Ulqiora was a Vasto Lorde that naturally became one, Haribel was a vasto lorde we see her in that form so we can assume Aizen used the Hogyoju for her and Barragan is a vasto lorde that became an arrancar on his own.
stark has the kizaru from one piece problem.
he is in fact the strongest espada but he just doesnt care enough to try to be.
thats why alot of people say ulq or barragan is way stronger....

What we saw is good, loneliness shows its negative side and the desire of not wanting to use its objective, in this case, ending the shinigami, thus giving a very good character and one that is not necessary, overvaluing him, that is, that What we saw is not necessary to stretch it many more, it was in its arc and closed very well...

I think Starkk is the only espada that Aizen doesn't give power with hogyoku, because of that he is the number one, in addition, his story is the most heartbroken one in Bleach, easily favourite espada 💙
He became my fav tbh first time a saw him he's personality resembles so perfectly all the power but bored and uninterested cus he finds no meaning in it with out companion loved his characterization so much
Other Espada's Hollow holes: empty as a hole is, swords pass right through.
Starrk's Hollow hole: some black circle drawn on him which can be stabbed like a Looney Tunes character was trying to use his chest like a tunnel.

Well I always thought that Stark's death was half because Shunsui would've beaten him and half because he practically "witnessed" the death of all the other espadas (people who he could at least hang around), but also lilynette so he sorta had no motivation to fight anymore
