If getting a smaller truck means I won't have friends asking me to help them move anymore, I am going with the Colorado or it's competition.

    I'll take the Colorado.
1.) Cheaper, even if the Silverado has discounts.
2.) Shorter. My garage would not fit a silverado. I don't need a 6+bed. All I carry is my ATV, cement, dog, nothing long.
    3. Tows more than I need. All I have is 2 jets skis. At the most I'll tow 3,000 pounds. My toys don't get heavier with time. I would never buy a boat and as a matter of fact, with every new generation of the same truck it will be just easier to tow since my toy will always weight the same.
4.) Space. Me my wife and two small kids that's 4 so it's perfect. I hardly carry people and I'm buying a truck for me and my family, not for my friends. They all got their own.
    5.) Floor shifter.
I don't say it's better because is not, it's just that there's a truck for everyone. I don't fall for that "big man v8" thing. I'm 6'1 230 pounds and a mature adult that makes 50k a year and I can't just go trowing my hard earned money.

Just bought a 2018 Z71 Colorado. Came from a 2014 Toyota Tundra, which has the largest cabins of any of these trucks by far. The Colorado just fits better in any situation. Enough towing for my requirements...

@Munoz....I did the same EXACT thing! I just traded in my 2014 Tundra CrewMax for a 2018 Z71 and couldn’t be happier. The Tundra was just too wide and the handling sucked, but not as much as the MPG sucked. Also, I like parking in the front of parking lots again!!

I've driven Silverado's for years and loved them, great trucks. Never did much towing. Starting researching the '16 Colorado, found a great deal on Z71 Shortbed, took the chance and switched. Loving the Colorado, no regrets at all plus it fits better in garage.

My best friend and I bought our trucks almost at the same time. He bought a 2015 Silverado and I bought a 2015 Colorado. He drove mine and I drove his. He likes that his truck is bigger and has more room but I like my Colorado because it's smaller and it feels like it handles better. Also I don't like how you can see so much of the hood when you are driving the Silverado. The Silverado hood is more flat while the Colorado is more curved so you have a better view looking while driving.

It really depends on what you need, full or mid-size, meaning if you need a full size pickup a midsize just won’t work for you, whereas if you just need a mid-size pickup, both could work for you, but why spend the extra money on the full size if on you only need a mid-size, I would go with the full size, just because you will like the extra space, looked at both a while back and yes the Colorado is a great truck, but against a full size, the space, the space, but like I say if you don't need the space, why waste the extra money

I traded in my Ford Ranger XLT for the 2023 Chevy Colorado, and I found my new truck being wider and about a foot longer then my mid size ford truck. I'm a happy guy after waiting nearly three months getting my truck shipped in, but on the bright side I got the Colorado a day before my birthday. I'm adapting to this bigger truck and the more powerful engine of the 2023 Colorado LT not to mention the better mpg rating.. I couldn't turn down the Chevy Dealership's 7 year extended warranty with zero dollars deductible and with the suspension coverage included. My daughter got the new 2023 Chevy Trailblazer, and the wife having her Malibu we're now a complete Chevy family. Happy! Happy! Happy!

I recently traded my 01 Silverado for a Colorado v6, Z71. I have no regrets at all. We tow a boat or trailer with a side by side, both around 2000 lbs. No issues at all with power. We test drove a couple of full sized pickups and they were quite a bit bigger than my old truck. The Colorado is perfect for what we wanted and my wife loves driving it as well.

Colorado makes way more sense in so many ways. Unfortunately most men will go with the bigger Silverado just to make them feel bigger and tougher reguardless if they need the size or not. Selling trucks for the last ten years I found out most men don't even use the bed or really even need a truck.

I have a 2015 GMC Canyon Allterrain crew cab (4-door) long bed and it does everything I need a truck to do. I have never maxed out the towing capacity of 7,000 pounds so its the perfect truck for me. It also fits up my narrow driveway better.

  • @ludah99

I have a 2014 Sierra and use my truck for work and family hauler, I test drove the canyon with the duramax the other day and was impressed with how it drove. The down side is its to small for me and my family, especially with a car seat. You have to move the front seat up to fit car seat in back and if u have tall people there's no room to spread out. In the Sierra u can actually recline the seat back with car seat,so I'll stick with the Sierra for capability and comfortability!

  • @xray111xxx
    @xray111xxx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Great discussion on Ability vs. Capability realized. These are both fine trucks, and I would love to have either. I like the GMC better on the mid size truck over the Chevy. The GMC big guy gets my nod too. I just like how they packaged them better. For me the 4 wheel drive Midsize is so attractive. Narrow by a bit, on the trail it will matter. I love big trucks, and what they do, but for my everyday. The midsize is just right.

  • @k.r.v.4219
    @k.r.v.4219 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The bed in the Colorado is not all that much smaller than the short bed Silverado! But as far as price goes, you can get a real deal st times on the full size truck, around my area that is over 10k! I was very lucky to get 5k off my new 2016 Colorado Z71,4x4, V6! If I was to buy a Z71,V6,4x4 Silverado? It would definitely have been at least 5k more out the door! A V8? About 10k more! I had a Silverado I bought new in 2011, a Z71 that you had at the time were required to buy a V8 in! But at the time I got a screaming deal! I paid only 29k brand new! Then when I traded it 5 years and 70,000 miles later? I was still able to get 20k in trade on the Colorado! That at 5k off was just a hair over 30k! With the V6 option and the factory tow package, with the 8" MyChevy Link Navigation system with the Bose speaker option! I love it! The Colorado also tows my new travel trailer very well! The same size and weight that I had with the Silverado! I not only have about the same power to weight and stability, I get at least 10-15% better mileage! Except on the hyw empty, now I get 26-28 mpg! That's almost 20% better!! Now I can't wait for the new Colorado ZR2!!!

How deep is your garage? Silverados usually won't fit, the midsize trucks will. Do you want a sportier truck or a larger truck? The Colorado can pull 7000 lbs. Do you need more than that?
I have driven both quite a bit, and the Colorado is much better to me. In fact, every time I get into the Silverado I am reminded how much better I like the Colorados.

Iv'e been looking at the Colorado lately and it's got what I want but with less money. What do you recommend? I'm an ordinary guy that doesn't need towing or much power, cause I'm not interested in working in a job that needs a truck like this, so I just need it to drive and for it to be reliable.

I don't get the comment "always towing" if you tow everyday or twice a year your will need a tow vehicle to tow the load. If you tow a medium travel trailer (9000Lbs) 2 or 3 times a year you will need a truck that can hand the weight. You doun't have to tow everyday to need a more capable truck.

Colorado hands down. Friend of mine has a 2015 4x4 v-6, 33's and a 4 inch lift. He gets 21 to 22 mpg highway. It looks great and performs great. Also has magna flow mufflers with duel's. It was less cost for him to do the same as what my brother did to his Silverado, which it is getting 18 to 19 mpg on a v-6. Not much difference in mpg. But I'm after as much as I can get, with one raised a little, some what larger tires. I choose Colorado, plus that red colored one, with that added to it looks sharper...

You honestly failed when looking at the value proposition It is pretty clear that you wouldnt pay 10k more for basically the same thing. If i need to pull more than the colorado can handle i would buy a 2500 not a 1500. Plus the MPG numbers are bit wrong for the colorado. My dad has a v6 silverado and gets about 20MPG all the time average, but i get about 25/26 average MPg all the time in the V6 colrado i own Even hitting a great 31 MPG on a long drive on the interstate.

Funny how they didn't discuss off-road. I guess full-size is better for mudding b/c you can wear bigger tires, but if you actually want to run some trails, mid-size/compact hands down.

You can lift a Colorado too, and that means you can put the same exact tires on a Colorado and Silverado. You're right, the midsize is a little more narrow so it can fit into those tight spaces, plus it's about 900 lbs lighter so it can go further without being sunk due to the weight.

What a douche. The only people who ever say stupid shit like that are people with small trucks or slow cars. Like broke people always say money is the root of all evil. Ever thought the same way you like your little truck is the same way someone likes bigger trucks. You sound like a woman. that is stupid crap that women always say.

Colorado - less tiring to drive in traffic, easier to park, a little cheaper, nearly as useful for the things most people use them for.
Silveardo- carries people better, carries big stuff better. Otherwise, heavy, ponderous, and $45K with discounts for a nice one.
I drove full and midsize pickups and owned a lot of them for business. You get tired of big trucks if you have to go into densely populated areas or deal with narrow winding roads. The Colorado materials quality isnt' as good. But you can get a 2wd crew cab v6 for about $30K.

I like the Silverado for the simple fact that it’s only $5,000 more than the Colorado brand new. You get a bigger truck (full size), mpg isn’t much worst, and the bigger bed does come in handy if you ever need it. “Better to have than not have”.

The price difference isn't 10k on the gm website, its more like 2k. Actually there isn't a big enough savings in price or mpg to justify buying the colorado over the silverado. If your allready going to shell out over 30k for a truck then it makes sense to spend the extra 2k for the full sized truck that you can do more with. Small trucks used to depreciate faster than full sized but not any more.

For me it's simple if I needed to move things and tow things I'd go Silverado all day everyday! if I was going off road hands down I would want the smaller platform truck, more maneuverable in tighter areas it would absolutely be a Chevy ZR2! right now I feel Chevy Colorado is the best for both worlds off road midsize truck(because it's small and as I said more maneuverable and you could also use the zr2 to tow things and over the road as well) but the ford Raptor is the king of off road full size!

I test drove and compared both with equal equipment and 4wd . The Silverado seat has no mid to top back support and was uncomfortable to drive even 3 miles! The Silverado was too long and I couldn't fit it in my garage. The Silverado was actually $14,000 more! The Colorado had a 4wd switch on the dash and to get the Silverado with the 4wd switch on the dash, you had to upgrade to the LT. If you picked the WT or LS, you get the manual 4wd selector on the floor and takes away room to place a passengers foot. That 4wd floor selector is antiquated and GM needs to just get rid of that! I heard GM is coming out with upgrades to the Silverado and Colorado, so I'm just going to wait until the 2018 models come out.

How the hell does the bigger more excessive truck get the value point?
That's kind of the importance of a smaller truck. More value due to how it is just far better as a daily all purpose vehicle while a full size truck is clearly more niche and necessary for those who need the bigger bed, and tow capability.

Comparing these trucks doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering they're offered by the same maker and serve two different purposes. Silverados a bigger work truck. If you work on a farm or do construction or tow heavy weight most of the time you're out, Silverado makes more sense. Colorados a little more versatile as it does light towing, get a little better mileage, is smaller and easier to maneuver, offers a diesel and manual, and offers pretty much the same interior options as a Silverado. If you're looking for a daily driver and the ability to tow or haul smaller stuff when you need it occasionally, I'd say the colorados a better option. Most guys who buy big trucks don't even know how to tow or use a hitch anyways...

B has a 7000 tow rate wont pull a 4000 boat & C, when towing my 900 pound 14' flatty back from SD to MN I got 13.3 mpg...... Another piece of GM crap. These trucks are in two different classes, midsize Vs full size, so this is not an apples to apples comparison. The truck that is "best" will depend on your individual needs.
That said, the Colorado handles MUCH better than the Silverado. The Silverado handles Ok... for a truck. The Colorado handles pretty darn good... for a CAR. You do not feel like you are driving a truck at all. A few weeks after I got mine, some clown decided it would be Ok to make a left turn right in front of my Colorado as I'm approaching at nearly 40 mph. I'm full hard on the brakes and steered around the guy without even squealing the tires. To be honest I still can not believe I missed him and I know that it would have been a different story if I had been driving the Silverado. So far, the Colorado is the best truck I have ever owned.

I traded in my 2016 Silverado (standard cab, 6.5 ft bed) on a new 2018 Colorado 4WD z71, extended cab, earlier this year. Drove it 3,000 miles, LOVED it. Had company graphics installed and gave it to an employee for use as his company truck. Neither one of us could find anything WRONG with this truck. So I bought another one just like it for my own personal use.. VERY large people or those who must haul huge loads, or perhaps small people named Dick may prefer the Silverado because of its size. Not me. The Colorado is perfect. And my wife can drive it.
