    I'm continually astounded by the goodness of Dr. Greger's heart and integrity. In a world where so many seek to only profit financially off of a diet/lifestyle narratives and fads, Dr. Greger provides his books, podcasts, videos etc. with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. Millions of dollars straight to charity. Big up Dr.! We need more leaders like yourself. Doing it for the love and not for the cash

    I feel my best physically and mentally when intermittent fasting (only eating during an 8 hour period each day)

      It seems to be the only way for me to reliably maintain a healthy weight without obsessively calorie counting. Part of it is that I almost never feel full no matter how much or for how long I eat.

    I have been fasting for more than 2 years now and my current streak is 513! (no brake, it's a life style) I have started as intermittent fasting for 12 hours and my average is around 18,7 hours everyday. My eating window is around 5- 6 hours everyday at most. I cut eating around max 15:30 and eat again not before 8:30. Which means I eat most of my calories before midday. I am also a vegetarian following a plant based diet. Being an amateur athlete and training 6 days a week, I thought at the beginning I was going to suffer from exhaustion and not be able to cover my very long runs etc. Truthfully speaking I do my trainings mostly after I eat lastly everyday and don't eat again but go to fasting. I have shredded so much weight but a lot of fat especially from waist area which helped to improve not only my health but also it helped me to built a very disciplined mind. I can go to sleep easily, don't feel hunger at all and as I digested every food before going to sleep, I do not suffer from any sleep breaks etc. Also it improved my athletic performance in time. All of my blood test results are coming more positive, my endurance built up. So I am on the very positive side of fasting and of course balancing this with a very healthy plant based diet...Every body is different so you need to try and find what works for you. Listen to your body it tells you everything you need to know...Hope this helps people who are thinking about it....

      @@carlarabbderosa no no definitely not, I am against water fasting. this is only intermittent fasting for food, does not include water, as a mater of fact you should drink more water than ordinary and also '513' is days not hours, hope this clarifies...

    I am an Orthodox Christian, and in the Orthodox Church, "fasting" is abstaining from meat, eggs, dairy, olive oil, fish with backbones, and alcohol. As a convert, it took me a long time to get to that point for Lent, but the first time I did, after a couple weeks I thought "hey, I actually feel pretty good!" It was shortly after that that I learned about a whole-food plant-based lifestyle and realized why. Now I eat *mostly* WFPB, and for Lent my "fasting" is also abstaining from fake desserts. I am glad for all the insight from Nutrition Facts!

What I came to realize is that I couldn't do my uaual multi-tasking while listening to Dr. Gregor. He takes 100% of my attention. And I have come to totally enjoy the rhythm/flow of Dr. Gregor's talk. It actually brings a smile to my face now and I feel invigorated, informrd & refreshed after listening to him. I'm at my best, with the least symptoms from secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, when I eat whole plants - veggies, fruits, legumes, nuts, and seeds. I naturally fast every night for a minimum of 12 hours. Eat nutrient rich and you don't have to do all this math to be healthy. 💯🌱💪🏽

    Fantastic video as always. Thanks for doing what you do.
    There was a piece in the Economist last week that suggested the longevity of the Japanese improved when they introduced some cholesterol through red meat and dairy compared with their historic vegetarian diet. If I remember correctly, heart disease increased but strokes decreased leading to a net increase. Would love to know what you think about this?

    • @garethbaus5471
      @garethbaus5471 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If memory serves the improvement in stroke risk seems to be primarily due to the insanely high salt content of the traditional Japanese diet, when you eat foods based on a more western or indian style of cooking you won't usually use as much salt or high salt condements to season the food which can lower blood pressure and by extension stroke risk. If memory serves the study didn't actually indicate a significant improvement in overall life expectancy from consuming more animal products.

    Does Gregor ever talk about dry fasting? Thanjs

    • @darrenparis8314
      @darrenparis8314 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Stranger, I don't know that you would trust me, but I tell you dry fasting is not healthy and dangerous. More, not less water must be consumed during fasts, and b complex and other water soluble vitamin and electrolyte supplementation during fasting is no detriment to the benefits of a fast, and encourages both health and fat oxidation.

    • @bradbotsch8949
      @bradbotsch8949 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darrenparis8314 do you have any personal experience with dry fasting? Why is it dangerous, in your opinion?

    • @darrenparis8314
      @darrenparis8314 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Experience? Perhaps it is not clear to me how one could dry fast without becoming dehydrated. Digestion stops once water consumption stops. With the amounts of fiber one is to consume on a WFPB diet, digestion issues would commence unless all food has been cleared through the digestive tract, but such a state is itself unhealthy. The gut microbiota requires water. Moreover, it is healthier to exercise while one fasts, but injury comes about when dehydrated. Fasting for more than 24hrs, it is understandable that one drinks much, much less beyond this point, because of lack of digestion, but some should be beneficial. Kidneys cannot function without water consumption, which take urea out and filter our blood. Brain dehydration impairs cognition, can mimic appetite. For long fasts, supplementation is necessary, and some water aids in absorption.

    • @bradbotsch8949
      @bradbotsch8949 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darrenparis8314 When one fasts fat is burned and water is released (as fat stores water). I have gone over 3 days without water and was still urinating about once a day, sometimes large amounts that surprised me; all while hiking an average of 5 miles/day. I certainly don't recommend anyone doing this without extensive preparation and knowledge of your own body. After my dry fasts I always feel amazing and renewed. You said brain dehydration impairs cognition (and I 100% agree) yet during my dry fasts I always think so much clearer.
