Ryan being unreasonable, emotionally unstable and so indecisive is probably the most realistic part about this whole season
The two sides of the boys have been pulling Ryan since the moment we found out about him between being human or being a “god” it’s to the point where he’s conflicted on where his priority should lie. In the end, I’m pretty sure the only person that ever truly understood him was his mother who had the best intentions out of everyone in the entire show Ryan doesn’t know who to choose, because both sides have been pushing him further and further to the point where he doesn’t know where his path should lie.
He’s a kid. His character development feels pretty natural.

Yo I honestly feel like there was a switch up or scene reshot after this yelling scene, the way Ryan went to Butcher afterwards feels like this tantrum Homelander threw didn't even happen at all, but instead as if they bonded even further.
A lot of this season felt very 'reshoot' like you said, the editing is clunky and doesn't make sense.
Butcher was on his death bed and messaged Ryan to come see him. Ryan didn't want to be in Vought tower with his pissed off dad so he decided to take up Butcher's offer. Where's the disconnect?

It is scary indeed but let's not forget the fact that he's only scary in this scenario where Ryan is still unsure of how to stand up for himself. Once he gets over these uncertainties, Homelander is in big trouble as Ryan has a big potential to solo him. You can already see in Ryan's face that he is not having any of Homelander's bullshit, and it's just matter of time before he snaps at his own father.
Homelander losing his shit over his grey hair is a metaphor for “everything starting to fall apart” in the world of the show. And just like his grey hair, only Homelander can see the end coming near.

All the credit to Antony Starr, but can we acknowledge that Ryan's actor is doing a phenomenal job this episode as well? Just a tremendous range of emotions that he's had to portray for someone so young and he's done an incredible job of communicating so much without saying a word.

Homelander was created by inseminating a volunteer with Soldier Boy's semen and further V injections as a fetus iirc.
So, while biologically his mother is the volunteer, SB and SF are his genetic blueprints.
