I also love how Geto never forced his beliefs on Nanako & Mimiko 😭😭 and another thing is that it proves that the JJK world isn’t fit for kind people like Haibara, Riko, Junpei, and even Itadori. Imho, this is the arc that showcased Gege's character writing the best in the entire series. It's almost uncharacteristic how much significance he put into the story of these two friends.
You're one of the few people so far who didn't brush off Yuki telling Geto about Master Tengen still being stable even after Riko's death and saw the significance behind this. Geto cared for the innocent and the higher ups just wanted to merge her with Tengen/kill her, when there had been another way all along. It ruined his main belief of the strong protecting the weak.
Geto still exercises some good morals (raising the two girls) despite his actions. It's like a good person but questionable actions/decisions, and honestly, I think he's kind of relatable. I mean I wouldn't really know what I would do if I was put in his shoes, I get it
I kinda also think that Geto overall just chose the path he would be more happy with ☹️ he seems so much lively at the kfc breakup (yes I’m calling that) and it’s just pretty sad that gojo tries to get him back in a way. I recently found this quote from Nkmir saying this: The director told me that "Make a conversation after learning that Geto's behavior is weird from the first scene". The direction was "Somehow observing Geto's behavior and reaching out but also I want you to create an atmosphere in a Gojo's way". Because of that, the approach was kind of an image of trying to get Geto's attention, "Listen to me!". It's like "Don't think anything strange, just come over here". At the last half of the persuasion scene, I switched to a performance that has more of a rooted feeling of "Because I'll listen to you", "So please say something" Anyways yeah now I’m gonna cry about Geto and Gojo again for the 100th time already
Part of me doesn't blame Geto that much. Life as a jujutsu sorcerer is just that shitty and cruel. You either die horribly like Haibara or quit like Nanami. Nobody appreciates what you're doing in the slightest. These are issues Gojo can't solve just by being the strongest.
I agree, but I probably go a bit too far, wherein not only do I not blame geto, I don't think I can say he's really wrong about things. People he doesn't know, who can sometimes be very hateful have killed either intentionally or not, the people he holds close to him and they will continue doing this forever.
And Gojo's solution to the problem - making many people as strong as Gojo himself is - much like Geto's "solution", is kind of unreasonable and unrealistic for most people to achieve. It involves less actual murder, but by putting his students through missions they may not actually be ready for, it could lead to more meaningless deaths like Haibara's. Changing the jujutsu system non violently takes a long time, and in the meantime who knows how many more young sorcerers will die.
He could though. Like that is literally geto's point. If he had gojo's strength he could fix that right now. Kill all the humans. Sorcerers will be free.
I'm anime only :3 This story shows how one event could change people in a completely different way. Gojo kinda became the better person, Geto the villain. Yet,they don't lose their own unique character with that. Also ideology they had before Riko's case leads them to this point. I've noticed Geto's using "monkeys" to describe people is the result of Toji's words.
Also one more thing - Haibara(?), I mean this guy who works with Nanami. There were so many reasons to break Geto, that's why it's so satisfying yet sad
Duuuuude nah toji is one of my favorite villains of all time and he was only here for like 4 episodes. Insane how cool he was with so little screen time

Great video! You made such a good point about Geto being 'the villain you didn't even know you needed'. I had been enjoying the story a lot up until then, so adding a morally grey antagonist really added and enjoyable depth to the show. Subbing rn, hope you get monetised asap! I'm making the same push myself
This video was awesome I agree with you wholeheartedly. I would like to ad that the whole story of JJK is literally perfection. Every single villain we have seen is really amazing. Kenjaku, and sukuna have really interesting motives but you’re right geto is literally one of the best villains ever. I love how akutami really takes the time and created extremely interesting villains. None of them are evil just “to be evil”. Which makes us more invested to their story. However there’s just so much that tugs at your heart strings about geto’s downfall. His depression scenes especially I feel like soemthing unfortunately a lot of us can relate to. He is very much of a grey area kind of a villain and that’s why I think he’s my favorite. To give a villain such a horrible motive yet still write them so interestingly where readers can’t hate the villain nor support them so they’re stuck in a dilemma shows what an amazing story teller as well as how talented akutami is whne it comes to creating characters. But I feel like geto is also one of the most tragic characters in anime. Bc his body being used by kenjaku like a puppet in his master plan all while trampling the real geto’s already stained-legacy just adds more salt to the wound.
nah fam. even geto isnt remotely close to sukuna in terms of "evilness". either youre paraphrasing and thats not what he actually said, or gege escaped the precipice of character assassination
In general jjk just has some amazing villains. Geto, Sukuna, Mahito, Toji, the one introduced in Shibuya, and even Choso to a degree are all great villians, remaining unique to each other but not sacrificing quality for any one of them because of that. Can't wait to see them shine in the shibuya incident arc, but even more I can't wait to see anime onlys reactions lmao
Late, but I agree so much. No spoilers, but I went on to read the manga. I don't think you'll be disappointed with where the story goes, but you might find yourself wishing it went a different way. Either way, I think JJK's writing, especially character writing, is massively underrated and I'm glad to see someone else appreciate it. I can only hope Gege Akutami will go on to make more stories.
The villains that think they are right or righteous are the best , especially when their pov is actually relatable and almost makes more sense then the MC sometimes but more often then not has a morality issue behind their means to an end 😂
This is a great video! Ive been listening to your music non stop the last few days and I had a topic I wanted to recommend if your excepting recommendations. I dont know if you have read the manga "Goodnight PunPun" but its REALLY good. I know right now it seems your only talking about anime but if you ever decide to dabble in manga I would love to hear your thoughts about this one! However as a warning it is very sad and deals with serious subjects, but its still one of my favorites of all time and I think you could make a really good video about it!
Thank you for the suggestion! I'll look into it but might not be able to get to it. Also thanks for the heads up on the tone and topics. Watched a show recently that didn't give a warning and it was surprisingly difficult
You don't know what hit you in shibuya incident arc be careful, make more videos after finishing season 2 because many interesting and intriguing things will be in your mind. I will be there to watch
Yeah haha anime only. I've had a lot of the upcoming arc spoiled a whole bunch in this comment section, but I'm going to try and still treat it like I don't know what happens next. In retrospect I also think this video is a fun show only pov where I obviously don't see what's coming next 😁
(I'm someone whos starting to look below surface levels in shows in stuff) Itadori and Geto are both characters who suffer hero complexes. JJK has a large theme of egoism, and I believe that the paths both take are a result of their own. Itadori constantly has his hero complex and morals challenged (ESPECIALLY since these morals aren't really his, but his grandfathers), but at the end of the day he accepts his flaws and continues his path towards good, while Geto's ideology was kinda a result of his strength. He saw people (subconsciously) as something TO save, not really SOMEONE to save if that makes any sense. When toji comes along and demolishes Geto's ego, this does 2 main things: 1. It obviously shuts down Geto's self-perception and 2. kinda pins a target on humans, since Toji wiped Riko, Gojo, and ofc Geto. He "gave" Geto the term monkey, and arguably made Geto hate humans. Once Geto lost, he 1. found a hatred for jujutsu society/humans because of the pressure, expectations, etc. ("who exactly am I doing this for?") and 2. subconsciously realized who he was, an egoist. Anyways, that's what I took away, great video. Again, much great things to come from Season 2 of JJK, hope you're looking forward to it. (no spoilers ofc) EDIT: I also find it funny how Gojo is an EGOTIST, which Geto is an EGOIST, very slight difference but two sides of the same coin.
To anyone who doesn’t really get Geto’s view on humans, he basically adopted the mindset of Gojo thinking that humans are beneath him, and are no more valuable then a basic object. Geto always had that preconception of human life, but it was brought down by his empathy and kindness. It was really only brought out when Toji pushed him to his very limits. Then he embraces that ideology fully, making humans no more than monkeys.
I think its interesting how people find this story and characters so insightful and challenging but never have trouble drawing the line between good and evil. Geto has an empathetic goal but the action ruin any type of empathy u can have for him. Its like it mentions these ideas but never intend to actually follow thru or make it interesting. Same thing for yuji when faced with challenges to his own ideology and purpose he has a brief moment of hesitancy and essentially just doubles down and becomes the righteous mc people swear he is not.
SPOILER WARNING for those who haven't read the manga this is about the drastic difference between geto in season 1 and 2 geto in season 1 is not geto but it's somebody else (kenjaku) controlling his corpse. geto died at the end of JJK zero the movie this is a great video and it kinda makes me wish it still was the same character becasue this explains it amazingly.

I wish we could actually see Geto more in jjk instead of just making him a villian of the week in jjk0 and than becoming a vessel for Kenjaku. He had so much potential and it's sad that beacause of jjk0 it was ruined. I don't blame Gege, he never planned that jjk0 will recieve a continuation, but it would be so cool to see an extended ark for Geto, maybe even him geting a little redemtion in the end of his life or something like that
I really hope (if you haven't) you read the mangas version of S1 + S2 as well, even though its the same story, I always feel like both anime and manga always give a difference in experience when consuming them.
Ur channel and voice really remind me of Sufferents, i really like both of u, maybe u should take a look at his style altho i cant say u need to improve in much
The thing about different ideologies of Gojo and Geto is that Gojo actually had none until Geto left. I could write an essay on those two's morality, especially Gojo's, but the fandom's weird obsession with hating the canon and whatever the creators behind the series say just make me quit midway, but you'll probably figure it out once the last season airs.
@@mxxkyboi spoilers: I missed the middle of JJK the most, from gojo flashback up until around the hakari fight. Partly because Ken still remained intriguing and was yet to be one upped by gojo and sukuna after the yuki fight with the megumi hijack onwards. It was all very interesting but i wish the audience was a little more aware something was up with fake geto aside from the forehead scars rather tham deeply analyzing and head-canoning that he learnt RCT from a near death experience. im glad Gege proved that this writing decision wasnt made sloppily but it seemed to be the pressure from the success of the yuta prequel which resulted in Gege having to copy paste a lot elements rather than just rolling with sukuna and having uraume replacing kenjaku plot wise
Nah he doesn't beat toji imo. Mans came in wiped the floor with two of the strongest sorcerers at that time and even tho got defeated later he still played a lifelong influence on their lives.
Some manga spoilers its such a shame that kenjaku took over later on because i think geto had so much more potential as a main villain, defo one thing Gege screwed up on in my opinion
New gen anime have great villains tbh but two stick out in my mind SPOILERS FROM CHAINSAW MAN One great oneis obviously Geto from jjk And another is Makima from chainsaw man. While the two differ in execution, they’re remarkably similar in ideology. Both want to shape the world in order to BENEFIT humanity. Geto wishes to cull non sorcerers in order to rid the world of cursed energy whereas Makima wishes to control chainsaw man in order to get rid of “concepts” that humanity suffers from e.g. famine, war and even death. Both villains have a somewhat hopeful, some could say idyllic goal in mind for the world however the way they carry out their plans is horrific. And even then their goals aren’t exactly truthful. Sure, Geto wants to rid the world of cursed energy and so he plans to kill every single non sorcerer but can you really say that’s his only motivation? Geto views non sorcerers as “monkeys” so while he might actually wish for his perfect outcome, in reality he’s using that as an excuse to carry out basically eugenics. And Makima is no different. She views humans as dogs (similarly to Geto viewing non sorcerers as inferior) and while she might want a better future for humanity, her nature is CONTROL. In reality she only wishes to control chainsaw man so she can dominate the world and shape it to her liking. Someone smarter than me could make some kind of conclusion with that but I’m not that smart and I’m also lazy so this is where I end this.
@@tigersboy5411 think it's relevant to the discussion, given how current "geto" isn't really geto and thus the character development doesn't give him any extra depth
I love jjk. Been a fan of the manga for over 2 years now and tbh I think Geto is overrated. Now that s2 of the anime is out everyone is gassing him up and making character analysis on him when he’s more simple than people want to believe
at the end of the day geto was just a cool guy trying to protect those around him, he just saw the true villain that everyone else refused to see i actually stopped watching as soon as he died.
Not related to the video and no spoiler just sharing my thoughts. But it's been really hard to be excited about jjk lately, i'm caught up to the manga and reading it weekly kinda has become a drag, in the video it says that the assamble of characters and how they all feel like they have their own moments to shine is kinda the strongest point of the series, i agree but now jjk seems like it's only interested in continue on with it's power system and plot (which i think has become complicated and kinda convoluted), we don't get much character moments instead the series is more focused on rushing on to the next plot point, for example there's a character death that seems it should matter since it involves two characters that have a close relationship but it gets sidelined for a fight (which tbh is actually really fun) and doesn't get brought up again until like 40 or 50 chapters later in a quick conversation between characters barely involved, there's also characters that get introduced to be a plot device or die immediately the moment they become relevant or before they do anything important, and there's so much exposition, one of the most awaited fights in the series gets interrupted by an entire chapter's worth of exposition, it's not bad exposition it is in character and it is something that the characters in that situation would do but it still interrupts the momentum of the fight to explain something that could've just be shown, it almost seems like gege is more interested in explaining the fight rather than showing it, fans say that you just have to let gege cook, i let bro cook for months and still nothing, i'm still a fan but i don't enjoy jjk like i used to
Kenjaku was a blunder, let's be honest here, the good part ends on S2 episode 5. Can't even recommend the manga for you guys, it just gets worse and worse.
I love JJK but Geto’s arc was kinda ehhhhhh. His solution was to genocide all non jujutsu sorcerers? That was a crazy jump of a conclusion to his arc. I don’t think that was a logical conclusion. Not even in the he’s the villain you don’t have to agree with him as in that does not make any sense. Rika was not a jujutsu sorcerer and he valued her dearly same with her maid. It’s kinda inconsistent writing … Good video tho!
She wasn’t a trained sorcerer, but she could see curses and was a part of the sorcery world by being the Star Plasma Vessel. Geto is motivated by wanting to save non-sorcerers at the beginning because he wants to reduce suffering. When he learns non-sorcerers are source of their own suffering as well as the suffering of sorcerers, due to their ignorant hatred of sorcerers in the boonies and their inability to control cursed energy, he resolves end suffering rather than reduce it. If the end of suffering only costs the people who would never understand or appreciate the people who were willing to sacrifice their lives for their sake, it would be worth it.
@@brianbriones2815 Why did he lead the cultists that cheered for his friends death? And how can people even appreciate sorcerers when their whole thing is they veil their actions from regular people so no one sees. Surely a sorcerer would know that it’s not out of malice but because most people actually don’t know
@@glachil7166 Revenge, partially. He wanted to tear down and reshape the organization and to do so he became its leader after killing the guy who put a hit on Riko. Also, sure, the veil is meant to keep their work secret, but their work being secret isn’t for the sake of sorcerers, it’s for the sake of normies. Sorcerers hide for normal people, they fight for normal people, they die for normal people. That’s an incredibly traumatizing and bleak world for someone who isn’t even 18. In most cases, yeah, normal people just don’t know, but sometimes it is straight up malice. The moment that sent Geto over the edge were villagers who caged up two curse-sensitive children and asked him to kill them on their behalf. The cult that got Riko killed also were knowledgeable enough about the world of sorcery that they hired a sorcerer killer to get the job done, but they were also just normal people. Geto saw a world where there were no normal people to protect and thus no curses left to fight. It’s a natural evolution of his desire to become strong to make lives easier for the average person. I don’t see how any of this is inconsistent.
Bro Riko was not a non-sorcerer, she was not able to fight but could see curses. She was Tengen's vessel ffs. The entire episode literally spent its runtime to make you understand Geto's point and if you didn't get it, that's on YOU and your media literacy.
@@honsai7409 Mfers love to throw the term Media Literacy without knowing what it means, bruh. If the author does a poor job with making me sympathise with a character and their motivations that’s my poor media literacy is it? It’s not that I don’t understand Geto’s motivation. It’s that it make no sense in context of his character. He was a well put together character seen previously capable of great empathy, he shown great kindness and understanding to non sorcerers even explaining it to Gojo. Even if he went into a depressive episode and killed those people in that village I can believe that, maybe he thinks that being kept to the rules of using sorcery for non sorcerers is stupid and he uses it for his selfish gain, I could believe that but you want me to believe that he wants to GENOCIDE ALL NON SORCERERS you’re really pushing my suspension of disbelief especially when it all happens like instantly. The only thing that saves the poor writing of this in the manga is the direction of the anime which was beautifully clever I have to admit. But the writing of his character arc itself is rushed, really meh and over rated. There are a lot of this type of character done way better. You can enjoy it but I don’t 🤷♂️
Spoiler alert So many things sugru getto is blamed for are done by kenjaku and not by getto , even after pushed from the edge he knows his boundaries and have somewhat decent moral campass
Geto was still going to kill yuji if a sorcerer was in his way he prob was going kill them, only difference is geto wants a world with only sorcerers and kenjaku wants a world with curses
TeddySlump's video on Getou is also really good! despite him not being a serious reviewer like you, he discusses gojo and getou's compex ego's and ignorance in a simple but enlightening way.
Geto was a terrible villain. His logic is "these normal people have done bad so they should die" but Mai and Maki are examples of sorcerers being terrible. Geto himself has caused more harm than anyone in that village. And no one has caused more harm than Sukuna and Kenjaku. Geto's logic goes straight out the window with any amount of logic applied. He's just crazy
You don’t understand his character lol. It’s not about normal people doing bad things it’s about sorcerers having to risk there lives for people who essential don’t care about them as well as are the cause of the problem. It’s not right but his whole thing is curing the problem of curses not treating the symptoms

Great video! You made such a good point about Geto being 'the villain you didn't even know you needed'. I had been enjoying the story a lot up until then, so adding a morally grey antagonist really added and enjoyable depth to the show. Subbing rn, hope you get monetised asap! I'm making the same push myself
this was such a great video!! so glad it got recommended!!
amazing video bro gah damn
I always look forward to your uploads! I didn’t even realize this was a year ago!
Really great video
Amazing video. The editing was on point and your voice is perfect. Don’t stop making bangers!!
Bro I love your voice, I wrote this before I finished the video because of how soothing and calming it is.
Great video you are insanely underrated, keep the work up
This video was awesome I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Best writen character seriously 😤
This is quality content! You're really good
Gojo is as cool as geto. he is cooler than sukuna.
nah fam. even geto isnt remotely close to sukuna in terms of "evilness". either youre paraphrasing and thats not what he actually said, or gege escaped the precipice of character assassination

OH MY GOD BRO HES LITERALLY JUST AIZEN with an actual back story…

In general jjk just has some amazing villains. Geto, Sukuna, Mahito, Toji, the one introduced in Shibuya, and even Choso to a degree are all great villians, remaining unique to each other but not sacrificing quality for any one of them because of that. Can't wait to see them shine in the shibuya incident arc, but even more I can't wait to see anime onlys reactions lmao
This video is fucking amazing and I never comment so just know it really is never quit please
Great video essay. Sad that you got spoiled.
Great video
The villains that think they are right or righteous are the best , especially when their pov is actually relatable and almost makes more sense then the MC sometimes but more often then not has a morality issue behind their means to an end 😂
Geto is pretty is pretty top tier indeed
Brilliant video. Its a shame you've been spoiled by the comments.
Oh boy I can tell we aren’t a manga reader unless I’m just really early into the video. Good luck in shibuya
(no spoilers ofc)
EDIT: I also find it funny how Gojo is an EGOTIST, which Geto is an EGOIST, very slight difference but two sides of the same coin.
SPOILER WARNING
for those who haven't read the manga this is about the drastic difference between geto in season 1 and 2
geto in season 1 is not geto but it's somebody else (kenjaku) controlling his corpse.

Gojo might get the boost in term of power
But i feel geto get more hype and fan during this season
Lol what an interesting title for this video. Im assuming this is an anime only discussion.

the fact I didn't hear about Kenjaku even once in this vid kinda gave it away lol
@@mxxkyboi spoilers:
I missed the middle of JJK the most, from gojo flashback up until around the hakari fight.

Fair, toji was sick
I really like Geto, but he's dead and gone.
S1 Geto isn't the same character as S2 and 0.
Some manga spoilers
its such a shame that kenjaku took over later on because i think geto had so much more potential as a main villain, defo one thing Gege screwed up on in my opinion
New gen anime have great villains tbh but two stick out in my mind
SPOILERS FROM CHAINSAW MAN
One great oneis obviously Geto from jjk
And another is Makima from chainsaw man.
Who's gonna tell him?
Bro is hyping up Geto as the best new villain in anime and he doesn't even show up again lol

I love jjk. Been a fan of the manga for over 2 years now and tbh I think Geto is overrated. Now that s2 of the anime is out everyone is gassing him up and making character analysis on him when he’s more simple than people want to believe
I can't wait for the anime only watchers to flip the fuck out after a certain point of the shibuya arc.
at the end of the day geto was just a cool guy trying to protect those around him, he just saw the true villain that everyone else refused to see
i actually stopped watching as soon as he died.
Not related to the video and no spoiler just sharing my thoughts.
But it's been really hard to be excited about jjk lately, i'm caught up to the manga and reading it weekly kinda has become a drag, in the video it says that the assamble of characters and how they all feel like they have their own moments to shine is kinda the strongest point of the series, i agree but now jjk seems like it's only interested in continue on with it's power system and plot (which i think has become complicated and kinda convoluted), we don't get much character moments instead the series is more focused on rushing on to the next plot point, for example there's a character death that seems it should matter since it involves two characters that have a close relationship but it gets sidelined for a fight (which tbh is actually really fun) and doesn't get brought up again until like 40 or 50 chapters later in a quick conversation between characters barely involved, there's also characters that get introduced to be a plot device or die immediately the moment they become relevant or before they do anything important, and there's so much exposition, one of the most awaited fights in the series gets interrupted by an entire chapter's worth of exposition, it's not bad exposition it is in character and it is something that the characters in that situation would do but it still interrupts the momentum of the fight to explain something that could've just be shown, it almost seems like gege is more interested in explaining the fight rather than showing it, fans say that you just have to let gege cook, i let bro cook for months and still nothing, i'm still a fan but i don't enjoy jjk like i used to
Toji better
Kenjaku was a blunder, let's be honest here, the good part ends on S2 episode 5.
Can't even recommend the manga for you guys, it just gets worse and worse.
Hero isn’t in season 1
Uncle grandpa solos ngl
The fact that you think jjk is well written is hilarious BUT GETO BEING A GOOD VILLIAN😭? you actually got to be joking right
I love JJK but Geto’s arc was kinda ehhhhhh. It’s kinda inconsistent writing …
Good video tho!
So pretentious 😢
haha yeah, I know my voice and editing style can come off that way pretty strongly. my bad haha
Spoiler alert
So many things sugru getto is blamed for are done by kenjaku and not by getto , even after pushed from the edge he knows his boundaries and have somewhat decent moral campass
Geto was still going to kill yuji if a sorcerer was in his way he prob was going kill them, only difference is geto wants a world with only sorcerers and kenjaku wants a world with curses
you gotta specify that you’re talking manga spoilers and not anime spoilers
trust me, shibuya will only confirm every good thing you like about jjk.
How is Maki terrible ?
