Shrek is my number one favorite animation film. Very ambitious and hardworking people. We can't see similar resaults and quality recent decade. Thank you all for your great effort, you made our childhood.
Masterpieces are created when tons of artists and scientists get together to help turn a confident, original idea into reality. When I'm watching the movie I see layers of details that someone had to put there by hand. You see and feel immense effort in every second of this movie that's what makes it a masterpiece. Is it Shakespeare? No, of course not. No one can be Shakespeare. But there's something so real about it that keeps it coming back in your mind like how today I was feeling kinda depressed until someone's angry bickering made me laugh and sobered me up and it didn't even bother me cause I have the confidence to know that I'm Shrek not Farquad -- Shrek is a genuine creature, Farquad is an ass -- and that story reminded me of when Donkey and Shrek fight over a wall and their silly argument lifts them from the sadness and gets them back on their adventure. So many scenes from this movie are so real and relatable to life.

Shrek is my favorite animated movie of 2001 next to Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. I think the funniest parts in the film is when the main character is a big grouch.
Because the computers in the 90s were just about to get powerful and cheap enough for one of the first full animated movies. It took a lot of time to animate all the lightnings and other stuff. According to wiki, the film required 800,000 of machine hours. I highly recommend playing the game Half Life, which was released in 1995 or Unreal, which came out 1998. That will give you an idea how powerful most of the computers were at that time.

The Computers they had are put to shame by Raspberry Pi's of today. Imagine making a Movie on a bunch of these.
the raspberry pi can't do 80% of this. it only does simple rendering which is why minecraft looks even worse.
I don't think a raspberry pi can do what a SGI workstation did in 90s.
