I'm not sure who went down there at the end, but that was incredibly sad. I hope he's alright and is able to continue. I understand that pain, to an extent.
The last dude encapsulates why I would never attempt the Dakar unless I was a billionaire. I am familiar with the paperwork, the money, the training, the prelim raid series, the travel, the shipping, the time, the effort, the help from everyone you know.... it is a mountain to climb, just to get to the Start line. If I wrecked on Day 5 I would be suicidal. I wouldn't speak of it for the rest of my life.
In rallies there are zones with maximum speed, usually around villages. It is well written in the roadbook and you also have an alarm on the bike that goes of when speeding. If you go above the speed limit in those areas you are penalized.
Lack of defining classes and separation of the class reporting makes it a mush other than visual definition... different machines. Same with team names and drivers. A new generation in reporting comes forth...
You haven't been watching it. At the end of the last update they told you how to find the longer updates and why these are short. If you don't want to watch the hour long updates he told you about check, out podcasts like Dakar Rally Daily.
the end of the video 😢😢 I hope he's well
Very proud of Henk Lategan. Go Boet, we are cheering for you.

@5.40 "c'est vraiment dommage" traduction is not "it's a shame", it's more like "it's just sad ". Completly different feeling. Merci
How do you get speeding penalties in a race like Dakar?

Rally isnt all flat out some sections are timekeeper sections that require accuracy.
Bikes are speed limited to 160 kmph
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing🇯🇵🗾🇿🇦🇿🇦🇧🇷🇪🇸🇺🇸🇩🇪
Speeding? Confused!
They have to slow down when they go through some populated places… their gps picks it up… if they don’t, they get a Time penalty 😊
This year is the worst reporting on the Dakar ever!
Agree

Surprised they could top last year.
