      I don't understand how designers can say "I won't make the cup size larger." the whole point of ordering a dress in a size other than the sample size is so that it actually fits, why would that not include the cup size? like I don't understand how they can take all your measurements to make the dress to size but say "that doesn't include the boobs"?

    • @JustAnotherPerson4U
      @JustAnotherPerson4U 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@dietotaku I think it may be because it can sometimes change the style or positioning of certain parts of the dress just because of the cuts. And perhaps if it changes it too much, it doesn't become worth it anymore because the bride won't want it anymore.
      And perhaps it's just too costly for the designer because they're starting out so don't have helpers.
      Giving a bigger bust can unfortunately change the style of some dresses because of the nature of bigger boobs.

      With her list of requirements, well, something is going to have to give. "Lots of bling" translates to "lots more expensive," "lots of drama at the bottom" translates to "lots more expensive," and "not more than $4000" translates to "I can't afford a custom gown with as much bling and drama as I want."

    • @sarahdee374

      no way though for $4K. Maybe a gown for a plus size would fit her bust and could then be taken in at the waist as needed. (?)

    • @GrainneDhub-ll6vw
      @GrainneDhub-ll6vw 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sarahdee374 Hard to say. She's really not that large overall, she's just got really large breasts. Her underbust, waist and hips look fairly petite--I'd say she's got a figure like Dolly Parton.
      Since she wants a gown that is closely fitted to mid-thigh, a plus size gown that fits her bust would be just as difficult to fit her from the underbust down as adjusting a gown that fits her up to he underbust area and then needs to have the cups and neckline adjusted.

      How? It was a beaded top, first of all, they don’t have those beads, second they don’t have the same fabric and third, the dress is copyrighted by the designer so making alterations is not allowed if not done by the designer. Next question.

  • @MrsBrit1
    @MrsBrit1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +97

    I know this is an old episode, but there is absolutely NO REASON OR EXCUSE for a designer to not accommodate larger bust sizes! Limiting to a C is ridiculous when probably half of women will have larger breasts than that. Hopefully this has changed drastically since then.

    • @GrainneDhub-ll6vw
      @GrainneDhub-ll6vw 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Just to be catty--a designer can't accommodate for something their skillset is unable to design for. It's possible that the designer in question simply does not know how to design outside of the 'standard' sizes. If a curve falls outside your design school's standard French curve and you didn't play with other French curves and then combine those curves with various fabrics to see how they play on the grain of the fabric, you're gonna be pretty limited in your design abilities.

    • @GrainneDhub-ll6vw
      @GrainneDhub-ll6vw 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kamila3211 There's a market for haute couture houses that will only take orders for their designs up to size 12. Keep in mind that these are gowns, dresses, tops and suits where each one is made by taking the client's measurements, drafting the pattern to their specific measurements, making a mockup, fitting the mockup, either adjusting the mockup or making a second mockup before the second fitting--all this before the actual fabric is cut into. A process way more intensive and custom than prêt-à-porter wedding gowns.
      I'm talking about houses that exhibit during their fashion week, whether it be Paris, Milan, Rome, London, New York or wherever. For instance, about 45 years ago, when Ralph Lauren was asked why he didn't make anything over size 12, he said "because I can't make anything look good on a woman who wears anything larger." He meant it as a putdown but I (and many other second wave feminists) saw it as an admission of weakness and ignorance.
      Is it ethically right? I happen not to think so but there's no arguing that there are designers that can make a very good living without even making a gesture towards inclusivity by going up to a size 16 or 18.
      Not all haute couture houses are so limited nor are all bridal gown designers. If more people of all sizes refused to do business with designers who refuse to be inclusive, that might inspire those designers to improve their skill set.

      Adding more overall circumference to the first gown with a oanel would not have helped at all--the problem was not that the gown would not go around her. The problem was that the bra cups could only contain about 50% of the volume of her breasts.
      Think of it this way: two women can both wear a 36 inch band sized bra, but one needs A cups and the other needs GG cups. Even though the band on the 36A bra would fit the 36GG wearer just fine, there is no way on earth that her breasts are going to fit into A cups.

    Perhaps she needs a gown with some better straps for bosom support; then she can have the shape , lower details, and all the bling she wants added. Why doesn't she consider a custom-made dress with a seamstress? I think she just wanted to be a queen for a day with drama. Boo-hoo. She's not any better than the next bride.

    Call me old fashion, but a marriage is suppose to be between a man, and women. Does not say in Bible a man for a man, or a women for a women.

    I think it's utterly tackless when designers only design for skinny women with no curves. I think brides who find gowns by THOSE designers should boycott them if for no other reason than compassion for every woman who dreams about her wedding day and it deprived because of a self-involved egotistical designer.

      Designers can design for who they want to. Maybe having to adapt their designs that much is not viable for them and/or isn’t in keeping with their aesthetic.

    • @theraweggfiles
      @theraweggfiles 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, they can design how they feel, but designing something like wedding gowns, something every woman eventually needs to or wants to wear and excluding them because it doesn't fit their "aesthetic" is just cruel and heartless. It ends the message that some women just don't belong in the designer's world or they're not worthy. @@camellia8625
