    i just finished the job! it was easy enough once i got the original plugs off.. they were on SO good that i heard a loud "CRACK!" once they came loose. i actually half stripped the drain plug trying to pry it off but miracles DO happen. instead of pumping the new oil in, i just squirted it in directly from the bottle. you know, only about a full ounce of old fluid came out and about one and a half ounces went in.. old fluid reeked like everyone mentions and i recommend new plugs for anyone whose car is over 10 years old or comes from the north like mine. thanks for your video.. i see you're in the austin area as well! maybe we'll run into each other in our GLK's one day! take care!!

    do you know where the fill/drain hole is on the front differential in the 2010 4matic?

    • @512TXSDIY
      @512TXSDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine is only rear wheel drive. 4matic should be along the axles. Follow the front axles and you should be able to locate it.

    Did my 2012 today at 76k miles. Looked and smelled New. Thanks I used a air gun to get things loose then a breaker bar on the bottom plug most rusted Thanks. I think this is more of a 120k mile job. Let me know what you think.

    • @512TXSDIY
      @512TXSDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think as long as it gets done you’re good to go. Probably every 20,000 miles or so since it’s so easy to do. Totally my opinion though. I change my engine oil every 6 mo or 5,000 miles which some might say is too early as well.

  • @xlyamx
    @xlyamx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    also, mercedes calls for 75w85. i see you using a 75w90. i was thinking about using the same 75w90 but with royal purple for the back diff.. what you think?

    • @512TXSDIY
      @512TXSDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That should be fine. Go for it! Personally, I don’t like Royal Purple but it’s really just preference. There is not right or wrong answer.

    Do I need Teflon tape for those plugs to back in? I've see some post around the internet and lots of people suggested Teflon tape or GM sealant tape.
    Thank you for sharing this video ☺️☺️

    • @512TXSDIY
      @512TXSDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey MD. Personally, I did not use tape. It fastens in pretty tight with no leaks. I think tape is overdoing it in my opinion.

      Thank you for a quick reply. I have done mine by watching your video. It's easy just had lil hard time to break those bolts. I didn't use tape either and watched for couple days there was no leaks and hoping won't get no leaks in the future. I have used amsoil severe gear oil 75w-90(gf5), it's not really Mercedes approved oil but Mercedes dealer's mechanic told me any decent GF5 gear lube would be fine. 👍

      I enjoy doing DiY type work in my off days. I have couple other vehicles including 2015 glk350 and I changed all kinds of lubes and filters in my vehicles including ATF fluids. My rear differential, transfer case (not all vehicles share ATF in transfer case), automatic transmission, engine oil everything Amsoil signature series. I had used almost all types and brands engine oil before switched to amsoil and got stuck in amsoil. My personal opinion amsoil worth it

    I wonder why the service manual of my 2013 GLK 250 BlueTec doesn't require to change rear diff oil, my car is now 186000km and never changed the rear diff oil. I don't know if I need to have the rear diff oil replaced.
