- How do you celebrate your 80th birthday? Beverly "Guitar" Watkins has a show and tears it up at the Foundry in Athens, Ga. (4/27/19). She'd been in the hospital recently but was feeling up to speed playing with the Rick Fowler Band (Michael Doke, Rick Fowler, Deane Quinter, Greg Veale, Tim White) her regular support in Athens, Ga. They listen and play for her (and each other), not at her, and always have transcendent shows. The sound quality is due to their dynamics and Kevin Sweeney's mix. This is my hand-held camera angle from a four camera shoot (with Dave Nix and Dan Aguar). Sadly, Ms. Beverly passed away on Oct. 1 after suffering a stroke a few months after this show.

Blues musicians have never really got their just rewards, especially financially. They are as good as anything out there and many times better. This woman has been around for a long time and I'm certain nearly no one ever heard of her. Well, she was spectacular and these youtube videos prove it. Imagine that shortly after this performance she passed away. God bless her; she was great!!
