In this case, the PorcuPress actually does what it says. Given the money one can spend on a grinder, espresso machine, espresso, etc. getting a poor extraction is a waste. Were the resulting shots I used it on worth the $290 price it demands to me? I noticed some additional flavor notes in the coffees I tried but I'll continue to use the $10 People's WDT I've been using for years. It's good enough for the machine I have. A lot of the pricy tools and equipment you see on TH-cam are more for cafes anyways, it's just there's enthusiasts that are happy to pay for them as well.

Botanically speaking, coffee beans aren't even actual beans (legumes), aren't they? Then again, there is actual bean coffee - lupine coffee. It's a whole different beast in terms of taste, but I can definitely recommend it.

I went to Starbucks against my will bc my ride had to stop there and I figured I’d get a black coffee while I was there. I then had to explain to every employee in the building which included a 50 year old man what black coffee was because they acted dumbfounded when I asked for one. I literally ordered just like this: Hey do you guys have the pike place roast? The girl said yes. I said I need a venti of the pike place roast just black. She said she would have to get a manager because she didn’t know what I was asking for. Then her 50 year old man agate came over and I repeat my order to which he has us pull forward so he can speak with me because he has no clue what I’m talking about. I told them to just make the pike place roast and pour it in a cup with no cream or sugar. It took 15 minutes to help them understand and I will never go back to a Starbucks because that’s by far the dumbest interaction I’ve ever had trying to order something so simple

With the right equipment and setup, you can feel new levels of sound you'd never thought possible before, and after the setup is done, you can enjoy it as much as you want for as long as you want. With these caffeinephiles, they spend 30 minutes+ just to make an acidic drink that has exponential diminishing returns in satisfaction related to the equipment and time used to prep it. Audiophile equipment also has diminishing returns, but it's not as bad. Blissing out to music as it travels through your body, literally enveloping you, is leagues more enjoyable than a cup of java ever will be.
unfortunately the difference is very real and you can accidentally fuck up your ability to enjoy coffee you didn't make yourself. the cafes that will do the work to get perfect extractions are few and far between. wish I'd never gotten into this hobby.

But I have a moka (We call those "Greek Coffee Maker" here in Latin America, most households have one of those) a regular coffee filter which is pretty much just a sock and it cost like 3$, a small espresso machine (for 55$) and a french press (No clue how much this costs since it was a gift). I use all of them from time to time since the taste and texture from each on really IS different! It just a way to mix-up that small coffee making wake up routine, and I have spend less that 70$ in this whole "collection". Here in Latin America we get REALLY good quality coffee. So for a very small amount of money you can get a fantastic experience

It is a problem though. I use a 2 cup basket and very often coffee goes through one side more than the other. I normally just use one cup to take both shots as a double shot but lots of people don't and this device might fix the problem for them.
@@tomr6955 this device does nothing, especially not if you poke the holes before tamping like this genius here. things that are likely to be physically capable of causing uneven flow are clogged sieves above or below the grounds, and uneven thickness or especially uneven compaction of the coffee grounds layer. devices that would actually improve the arrangement of the grounds would be such that level the grounds and then firmly guide the tamper to only move straight down and stay level (basically the same construction as the needle thing here, just as a tamper).

I went to Starbucks against my will bc my ride had to stop there and I figured I’d get a black coffee while I was there. I then had to explain to every employee in the building which included a 50 year old man what black coffee was because they acted dumbfounded when I asked for one. I literally ordered just like this: Hey do you guys have the pike place roast? The girl said yes. I said I need a venti of the pike place roast just black. She said she would have to get a manager because she didn’t know what I was asking for. Then her 50 year old man agate came over and I repeat my order to which he has us pull forward so he can speak with me because he has no clue what I’m talking about. I told them to just make the pike place roast and pour it in a cup with no cream or sugar. It took 15 minutes to help them understand and I will never go back to a Starbucks because that’s by far the dumbest interaction I’ve ever had trying to order something so simple
@DreadPirateRobbins I work at starbucks and "Pike Place roast" is something entirely colloquial to Starbucks. If the employee is new they will of course be confused. The manager or shift lead not knowing sounds like they might be new too (outside hired). Don't get me wrong starbucks taste like ass and i dont drink their coffee even if i get it for free( I do get it for free). If you want to blame anyone blame it on bad training, but don't tell stories as if all of us are dumb and literally don't know what coffee is. You wouldn't go to your local coffee shop and ask for a Pike Place would you? You would ask for a black medium roast.

Ideally it shouldn't be detectable, since the idea here is to prevent things from going wrong that usually don't. You'd have to have an awful lot of channeling shots (which are *very* obvious during extraction) to make up the price of this thing, though. I'd rather just discard the odd failure and get it right the second time.

I mean it's mostly a hobby/fun thing to do. Sure, does 500$ in equipment only result in a 0.5% better taste? Yeah. But it's neat!

With the right equipment and setup, you can feel new levels of sound you'd never thought possible before, and after the setup is done, you can enjoy it as much as you want for as long as you want.
With these caffeinephiles, they spend 30 minutes+ just to make an acidic drink that has exponential diminishing returns in satisfaction related to the equipment and time used to prep it.
Audiophile equipment also has diminishing returns, but it's not as bad. Blissing out to music as it travels through your body, literally enveloping you, is leagues more enjoyable than a cup of java ever will be.
unfortunately the difference is very real and you can accidentally fuck up your ability to enjoy coffee you didn't make yourself. the cafes that will do the work to get perfect extractions are few and far between. wish I'd never gotten into this hobby.

Sometimes people shake the thing and makes all the coffee residue float around and you end up tasting it when drinking the coffee. It tastes disgusting. However any instant 3$ capuccino bag can make a coffee just as good as a capuccino made with a 1k dollars machine and dozens of 300$ extra gadgets

@@Dracon350 Espresso machines are not expensive. I am not a coffee expert nor an aficionado. But I have a moka (We call those "Greek Coffee Maker" here in Latin America, most households have one of those) a regular coffee filter which is pretty much just a sock and it cost like 3$, a small espresso machine (for 55$) and a french press (No clue how much this costs since it was a gift). I use all of them from time to time since the taste and texture from each on really IS different! It just a way to mix-up that small coffee making wake up routine, and I have spend less that 70$ in this whole "collection". Here in Latin America we get REALLY good quality coffee. So for a very small amount of money you can get a fantastic experience

I remember going down there back in the day to purchase computers and tvs for several hundreds of dollars less then here in america. I could get a 1200 computer for like $200 the same exact one. Usually what stuff cost in a country is based on what the societies money and wages are.
With that said they may have come down in price or some cheap knock off models may exist. But in all reality a regular percolator coffee makes works just fine.

It is a problem though. I use a 2 cup basket and very often coffee goes through one side more than the other.
I normally just use one cup to take both shots as a double shot but lots of people don't and this device might fix the problem for them.

@@tomr6955 this device does nothing, especially not if you poke the holes before tamping like this genius here. things that are likely to be physically capable of causing uneven flow are clogged sieves above or below the grounds, and uneven thickness or especially uneven compaction of the coffee grounds layer. devices that would actually improve the arrangement of the grounds would be such that level the grounds and then firmly guide the tamper to only move straight down and stay level (basically the same construction as the needle thing here, just as a tamper).
My coffee process goes like this.
1. Turn on hot water tap.
2. Fill cup with hot water.
3. Toss in a spoon of instant coffee and stir.
If finding cold fusion could help get better espresso we’d have found it by now cause of these guys

Nah dawg it’s addiction. Coming from me, I was addicted to heroin, but innovation like this is caused due to being an addict while being in denial. It’s why coffee drinkers believe they’re more irritable or rude when they’re off the stuff. It’s because they’re going through withdrawals. Look at how closely related caffeine (and also sugar) are to cocaine.
@@JamaalDaGreatestcoke is often mixed with pure caffeine (grounded caff tablets) and a bit of sugars (can also be something like sorbitol) which adds to the overall effect (all 3 are synergistic towards themselves and all 3 have high "addictivity"). We had an extreme case of this in Slovakia via Balkan route, where the dealer mixed only 1% coke to 99% caff. Police couldnt even send him to prison, since almost pure caffeine is legal 😂
