Thank you for breaking this down and removing the uncertainty around this job! Definitely way easier with belts than cars with timing chains. Nice work!
Good video. It always amazes me how simple the timing is on an EJ, yet folks are scared to tackle it. Couple things that may help your viewers - you didn’t mention bleeding the tensioner. Aisin recommends cycling the hydraulic tensioner 3 times with it upright before installation. Also it’s good practice to turn the motor over by hand a full rotation (2 turns of the crank pulley) to make sure the timing marks come back to in time and there is no binding as you turn it over. Good stuff. Love your channel

My last final is today, my Aisin kit arrives tomorrow, and this video drops right before I sit down for lunch. Timing IS everything. U think that chopped SRS plug is a DIY Takata 💥claymore (pass. airbag) delete, via disabling the weight sensor 🤔😆? Good stuff, keep 'em coming 🤙
In a pinch you can get more than 1 timing service out of an OEM water pump if you are buying the parts individually. But the Aisin kit water pump is OEM quality and you'll end up paying more purchasing individually from Subaru for all the parts included in the kit. I've been pretty happy with them.
@smeedia I was actually looking ror 2005-2007 sti replacement door cards and from what I have found out is that the Door cards and the blue sti carpet are discontinued. So you can not buy them from the dealer anymore. Unless there is a dealer that has spares laying around. They sell door cards but they are black or maybe even the one you have. So they are becoming a little rare now.
Nice man! I did my timing on my Bugeye this summer and I was a little worried that it'd be difficult but it wasn't bad at all. Hardest part was the belt guides and performing ER level surgery on the belt cover lol
I watched the other video from today first before this one. You sound so hopeful and excited getting everything together to start it and I felt so bad with what I know is coming. So sorry bro... At least in the end this car will be solid and reliable
Going to have to get a 3.3 ohm resistor for the airbag light. I broke my connector putting sti seats in my fozzy. Running this temporarily until I can find a used seat harness to swap in.
You’ll be fine. Ive done it and haven’t had an airbag blow on me...yet 😅 and go 1/4 watt or higher so the wire’s a low enough gauge to seat in the connector.
Driver side intake pully may spin on you as you take the belt off, not the end of the world if you have moved the engine to TDC as you should before starting the timing service. it is possible to spin the intake pully without popping the bolt cover off but if you use a cam alignment tool it will be necessary to remove. I recall the intake needs to rotate clockwise and exhaust counter clockwise if they do end up spinning on you. I didn't see any mention of bleeding the tensioner, did your kit recommend it?
So this weekend all because of you I’m gonna attempt replacing my 05 fozzie xt timing belt kit - if it goes wrong I’m blaming you !!! Not really just send me any help you can ;-)
Can't wait to hear it start up! If you don't mind, how much have you spent in parts to get everything rebuilt? And if you've answered and I missed it, apologies.
Love your content, have been following you for a long time over the past couple years! I have a question. I have my timing set, I spun a few rotations by hand and the cams line up, but the crank/oil pump gear is about 1 tooth off from the marking, and the belt markings do not line back up to the set positions. Is this normal?
Passenger seat SRS harness. If you want to, you can repair it. In the industry we are not allowed to repair them. If you use a crimp connector or even solder it back together you have the potential to change the resistance of the wire. More resistance could cause the airbag to deploy late, less resistance could cause it to deploy early, or it could not deploy at all. Hence why we can not repair them, super big liability issue.
@@Smeedia I would recommend replacing the whole harness, which is probably about $1000 to 1500 for just the harness, plus probably need to remove 90% of the interior to put the harness in. If you just leave it alone (i would find the wires and individually wrap them in electrical tape) it should be fine. The passenger airbag just won't work.
Hi just came across your channel gotta say big thumbs up for detail and camera skills. On a second note. So how come you kept the factory crank pulley on? Every Subaru I've had gets a lightweight thrown on while doing timing.
Thank you! Ans personal preference, the harmonic balancer does a good job at absorbing the vibrations from the crank. The lightweight ones work but just never been a huge fan. I alqays prefer the fluid dampners. 🙌

@@Smeedia I did a lot of research on the forums. I found out that “Made in Japan” Gates kit part numbers have to end with the letter “N” or else you’ll end up with “Made in China” parts and those are the kits that fail prematurely.
