    I can officially confirm that it grows on you so much after the initial listen… At first I was like okay, sweet guitar & drum fills, groovy rhythm, etc. Now, I cannot get that mesmerizing chorus out of my head! I’m always singing it in my head now. I just love how they incorporate various elements of different genres and no one sounds like them, they’re great songwriters, & just awesome. I bet most of the other 6 songs will be on the heavier spectrum, aside from maybe one soft(ish) song.

      I can attest to this. Also listening on headphones and on a playlist with the other 3 singles really makes you appreciate the song that much more.

      Their last album felt like a break up letter to the fans. I'm so glad this stuff is so positive and empowering. I'm so glad to have kittie back.

      @@scaredeecat agreed. It was a very personal album, lyrically, for Morgan to write. The new stuff are bangers and groovy- however, it’s not all positive despite the upbeat feel. As Morgan explained, “‘We Are Shadows’ is about the uncertainty of a future that we can no longer control. We have come to a critical place in life and in our world, and much like an eclipse overtaking the sun, we are losing the light… We’ve let darkness take hold, and so we are resolved to fade in the night with it”

    I am just glad that Morgan and Mercedes finally has a band that they've been looking for. Tara and Ivy are awesome!

    I had never heard of them until a few hours ago, and it was this song that got me to check out the rest of their stuff, and then watch a full documentary on them! It may be that I moved out of America around 1997, went to England, and the music scene was so different here at that time than what was going on in America, I kind of abandoned it all to understand my surroundings.
    But I took Helmet with me ;) . This is why I missed most of that era with Korn, Slipknot, and what Kittie came around and did on a scene that had no females. And I had to find out a bit more, because I'm all for that happening whenever it can. I await an all female band that gets the accolades The Beatles get, and I know it's going to happen one day. I might not be around to see it, but I really hope it happens.
    You say it's a grower, because you're more familiar with their work.
    For me it was instant. It's a cut above most of what's out there, even in the female led band current world. One I'm a fan of that splits many opinions is Esquela Grind. Whether you like them or not, I think the power they get on stage is just phenomenal, and the drummer looks like he's barely trying, but doing insane stuff. He's like, chill. At 150mph. Kittie hit me the same way. It's done really well, it's got talent in it, there's thought put into the work. One Foot in the Grave got me to check out Vultures, Eyes Wide Open (which is the right song to lead off any album) and We Are Shadows. Not a grower for me. It led me to see what else they did.
    That means a hit. If one song can make you check out the rest of a band's work, that's a hit. And if you keep listening, and going back to that same song to remind you why you think they're worth the time, that's success.
    I really hope they do well. Because I honestly think they're going to show everyone how it's done.

      That was cool to hear about your experience discovering them. The documentary was my gateway into checking out all their music. In the beginning I was only drawn to their heaviest songs but quickly learned to appreciate all of it. I'm in my 40s and metal is no stranger to me since the 90s, but somehow I didn't pay any attention to Kittie until recently.
      This song is my least favorite of all the singles so far but to echo what these guys said in the video it does grow on you. Tara's guitar work is really top notch and of course the production from Nick Rasculinecz rules. I'm happy to hear that it's making people discover more of their music. I feel like that could very well be one of the reasons why they wrote it.

    Kittie kicks fucking ass! I've always loved them. Genuine and heavy as fuck! I embrace the commercial aspects of her singing, because it is bringing in the runts of pop music to their world of metal!!
    Lure them in, and then SNAP THEIR NECKS!

    I like that this song is so different from what they've put out thus far. They have range, they're proving that they still have tricks up their sleeve, and it's definitely a song that can reach a wider audience. The band went dormant because they weren't getting much traction and it was tiresome. This song I think is a great way to keep gas in the engine and help them reach even more people. I'm all for whatever keeps Kittie going..not to mention the song IS good even though it sorta comes out of left field. This is definitely one of those "arena rock anthem" type songs and it'd sound amazing live with everyone in the crowd of a huge venue singing it.

    • @soulsvortex10
      @soulsvortex10 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, and on top of that I think that it will flow well with the rest of the album. I've been jamming all 4 singles on a playlist and despite this one being an outlier separately, it somehow just works when enjoyed with the other songs together. Yeah, it's more accessible than the others but it's still undeniably the same band with the same great guitar leads, drumming, production and even the vocals which are "softer" but also a testament to Morgan's progression as a singer.
      I will add that if you're familiar with their 2007 album Funeral for Yesterday then this song is a bit easier to swallow. That whole album had a predominantly accessible vibe with a couple borderline ballads. I happen to really enjoy it myself even though the band hasn't really played any songs off of it live in a long time. But if you listen to a song like "Slow Motion" followed by this one then you can start to see some parallels for sure.

    When I first saw Eyes Wide Open, i was singing Morgan's praises for working so hard on her dirty vocals, now with One Foot in the Grave I am impressed to see Mercedes has some vocal chops too, and of course Morgan still has her signature clean vocals which again she has clearly been working on as well. One of my all-time favorite bands that I never heard of before I listened to them is 2Cents and their drummer is the main vocalist (The Monkeys style). So I just love when drummers do vocals too. It is very common with guitar and bass but rare with drummers. It has been a blast to see this band grow and evolve, and see them as people grow and evolve too. All the while staying true to their nu metal roots. I don't like every one of their songs 100% but I have always added a handful of songs from each album since SPIT to my playlist and all for different reasons. I can not thank them enough for their range and the variety of music they have provided.

    • @soulsvortex10
      @soulsvortex10 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, and I could be wrong here but I believe all the vocals on this song were performed by Morgan and they made some clever edits for the video. Mercedes most certainly does backing vocals live but here it just sounds like Morgan to me. It was something similar in the "Brackish" video where Fallon is seen singing the backup vocals but it was confirmed by Morgan that she sang them all in the studio.

    This is the most "Sumerian" sounding of their tracks so far, but I am such a fanboy, I will be buying this album regardless.

    I heard A LOT of crap like this in the nineties. You take a guitar, pump up the volume,scream a bit,maybe you growl here and there and you think you play metal. This is weak and fake.

      If this was the first song I heard from them then I would be hard pressed to argue with you, but they have more than proven themselves as a legit metal band time and time again. You only need to go back a few weeks to their previous singles "Vultures" and "Eyes Wide Open" to see this. Not to mention dozens of songs from 2001-2011 when they were last active. Seeing them live is horns up all the way. I know.
      This song does not define their sound, and that doesn't mean that I hate it because I don't. But they have earned the right to go off course a bit after being a band for nearly 30 years. Besides, they went down this road of accessible/melodic/radio friendly sound already long ago on the album Funeral for Yesterday. Fans stood by them then and they stand by them now. The new album is going to be fucking metal. A lighter song adds variety and maybe attracts new listeners. No need to shit on them for doing what they enjoy.
