    FRUGAL CRAFTER VIDEO

    BASIC RECIPE
    7 Packets Knox Gelatin
    1 1/2 cups Water
    1 1/2 cups Glycerine
MY RECIPE USED IN THIS VIDEO
    14 Packets Knox Gelatin
    1 1/4 cups Cold Water
    1 1/2 cups Hot/Boiling Water
    1/4 cup Alcohol
    2 3/4 cups glycerine
    1/4 cup clear glue
Add the cold water to the powdered gelatin to allow the gelatin to bloom. In a large bowl add the hot water and glue, stir to dissolve. Add the bloomed gelatin to the hot water mixture, stir until dissolved (You may need to reheat in the microwave to fully dissolve the gelatin). Add the alcohol and glycerine, stir thoroughly. Pour mixture through a fine strainer onto a cookie tray.
This should result in a 1/2" (approx) thick sheet, you can, of course use a smaller container for a thicker final result.

So here it is, two months after the fact, and I finally figured out from your recent PM that you not only played with gelli plate monoprinting during our Creative Stenciling class, but you also made your own gelli plate!! I really need to crawl out from under my rock more often. I'm very impressed with how your plate turned out as well as your prints, and your cards definitely put your prints to good use.

+Joyce Spear Haha Joyce...it's hard to keep up with all the posts on SN, especially in that stencil class, there was so much going on! Thanks for stopping by!

Good job. The addition of the glue gives a slightly firmer plate.

Thank you... Seems that with your video, I have finally found a DIY recipe and method that's so clear, concise and well explained .... that I can go and try it out for myself! I just want to experiment with some ideas I have and these plates are Soooo expensive in UK!

+Elaine Collins Thanks. I just check the plates I made in this video and they are doing very well, I keep them stored on an old cutting board wrapped in plastic wrap.

Kevin, this was really cool! I don't know if I would have the patience to wait and see if I could have a decent Gelli plate. Pricing Gelli Plates here in Canada are very expensive and for something I might not use very much I would rather not go all out to get one.

+Lynn Fletcher I hear you...they seem kind of pricey all over (but really I wanted to try it this weekend so didn't want to wait to order one from online...I'm impatient, lol).

+Helen Gullett I had an old cutting board I put it on and wrapped it in cling film, it's just stored on a shelf in my craft room.

I have never gelli printed before and just recently found out about it. I am just getting into mixed media and art journaling. I went and bought all the ingredients to make your recipe. Mine is in the fridge right now. That gelatin smells awful, I was hoping the alcohol would kill the smell but it did not. Now I need to watch how to use these. Thanks for your recipe and showing good instructions on how to make this. How long are these suppose to keep, do you know?

Yeah, the gelatin is pretty smelly, but after it's cured a bit the smell mellows a great deal. It should last for years I believe. I still have the one I made in this video, I put it on an old cutting board and just have it wrapped in plastic wrap and it's doing fine. Happy printing!
