Literally. I once overheard a story between a salonist and a sales associate selling salon products. They were talking about having to replace their hair dryers about once a year. We're talking couple hundred dollar dryers here. But the saleswoman said that whenever her hair dryer broke, she just broke out her old dryer that she used in beauty school, and used that until her new one came in the mail. Her 40 year old hair dryer still works but the new hair dryers break every year?? These days at least, things are definitely engineered to break🥲

Huh, that's weird. Pulled apart my Australian Market xbox controller yesterday to replace the thumbnail (not the electrical part, just the plastic thimbpad) and noticed that it was hall effect sensors and not potentiometers. Not only that, but it's on a hot swap socket! Not sure if it's part or the new design, or if it's an Australia only thing, or if its just a mismatch of parts due to other circumstances. The controller was new, and bought from a store, and never opened before. Pretty cool!

Incorrect re why they aren’t used. Triggers these days are also Hall effect and would cause interference.

I connected an XBox One controller to my computer so I can control a plane in GeoFS with a joystick. The problem with this is that GeoFS doesn’t come with a calibrator and my Joystick isn’t centered properly.
So sometimes when my joysticks are at zero on my controller the plane will pitch upwards or bank right despite me not doing anything.
They are pretty sensitive so when I move it to try to centre the plane it will sometimes do something and mess up.
Thank God for the A/P. Makes things easier for me so I don’t have to use the stupid controller to control all the time.

It's not just joystick drift that is the problem. It's done on purpose. Gaming is massive in this day and age, so a industry would make controllers that don't last a month say. Gamer is forced to buy a new controller. Because say the input for the USB lead is playing up, joystick drift, d pad sticking to the left or right, dodgy LB RB buttons, and so on. You will end up buying another, because you will end up breaking the controller that you use, because of the countless problems that exist with it leaving you a very frustrated gamer.

What nobody has been able to answer is how potentiometer sticks have been used on the PS1, PS2, GameCube, Wii, and 360 but none of those controllers have durability issues.

cuz they want you to buy a new one each time controller starts to drift or the trigger loosens. My ps4 controller last with no issues for 8 years and my ps5 starts having drift problems after a few months which is wild. i rather have perfect non drift vs the rumble trigger effect that its not needed.
