When Dooku said "Qui Gon always loved this tree," and I realized what just happened, I full out cried, my guy. I was not expecting that, especially since we had JUST seen him. That was another level of emotional impact from a character I never expected to get that from. Phenomenal. This was the moment I fell in love with Tales of The Jedi.

That legitimately might be my favorite scene in the episode, if not this whole series of shorts. I’ll get teary-eyed anytime I see it. So much is said with so little dialogue, and good lord the MUSIC. It’s so sad and haunting. You can feel Dooku’s pain and sorrow with him barely having to do a thing or say a word. Even Yaddle is obviously very upset and worried for her friend. It’s moments like these that make me love Star Wars.

I really enjoyed seeing that Dooku never stopped caring for Qui-Gon, even after he was already well on his way to going to the Dark Side. It was really sad seeing them discuss how he'd like to meet Obi-Wan, and then seeing him mourn Qui-Gon as basically his son, the boy he raised and trained to be a Jedi Master, even to the point to calling Sidious out to his face for allowing Maul to kill Qui-Gon.

  • @blakedowning1811

Yaddle opening the door, the light pouring in--which illuminates Dooku's face, and make Sidious recoil momentarily--it being the last moment for Dooku to CHOOSE the light side... but Yaddle couldn't hold it. The door snaps shut and the darkness covers them all. The veil of the dark side falls over Dooku, and he ends Yaddle's life in front of his new master locking himself into his new place. GOD THE SYMBOLISM THANK YOU STAR WARS

    • @jsbcody

Dooku is a classic tragic character where his reasonings are totally sound but his methods are wrong. Add the fact that he completely miscalculates Palpatine’s manipulation tactics so all his actions are pointless at the end. He is just another tool in Palpatine’s pocket. Fantastic 3 episode arc!

This is one of the problems I have with The Last Jedi. If anyone understood the story of the prequels, then they'd understand this is exactly why the prophecy of the chosen one played out as it did. These Dooku shorts further elaborate on that. The Jedi order of the old Republic was complacent and too bogged down in politics. It had to go so that it could be born anew, in order to defeat the Sith.
Effectively, this is the whole narrative point of the first six films, once complete as a saga. Anakin brings down both the Jedi and the Sith, paving the way for Luke to rebuild the order as it should be. The Last Jedi acts like that story hadn't already played out and still needed telling. It got it completely ass-backwards. It should have been the story of Luke teaching Rey the true meaning of being a Jedi, as it was meant to be before the bureaucracy crushed it.

Dooku chooses to fight against it while Ashoka loses faith and stops fighting until she realizes that it is the way of the Jedi to protect and she doesn't need to call herself a Jedi to do what a Jedi was meant to do. Fascinating how 3 animated shorts did SUCH a better job at showing the fall/corruption of a Jedi Master, than 3 feature-length movies with direct input/execution by the creator. This one was definitely the highlight of the collections, even tho they’re all great.

Considering that the original plot of the prequels was to reveal that Jar Jar (the Phantom Menace) was the evil secret Sith version of Yoda pulling the strings of the dark side all along with Palpatine ("Usual Suspects" style). Then ret-conned by Lucas because of Binks bad reviews, and shoehorning in Dooku in as replacement for the evil Jar Jar. (Yes it was supposed to be evil Jar Jar fighting Yoda in ep 2 originally). This backstory by Filoni fixes the prequels. Because Dooku obviously was a last addition with no backstory or motivation. So this really works.

In one of the comics it’s Yoda who confronts Dooku and tries to bring him back to the light. He almost succeeds too, except Obi Wan and Anakin show up unannounced and attack Dooku, making him think Yoda set a trap. He then fully joins Palpatine, and Yoda never quite forgives Anakin for interfering. I like this better though.

The ultimate Tragedy is that Yaddle was on Dooku's side. Meaning that other Jedi probably would have agreed with Dooku. But Sidious separated Dooku from his Jedi Family. Dooku thought he was alone in the order. that is what got him.

goes to show how the dual of the fates was so so important not just for Anakin but for Dooku and subsequently the whole universe. idc what anyone says Qui-Gon was the single most important character in the Star Wars Universe, and Sidious had the foresight to make sure he didnt survive.

  • @Dagenspear

Everything, emotionally, about the character of Dooku, in this Dooku arc is all built on things from the PT. Dooku being Qui-Gon's teacher is in AOTC, and wishing he was here, along with Dooku being a political idealist who sees the republic as corrupt. The PT did this. This show is taking those elements and giving far more expansion to them, yes, but this was all set up in the PT. Dooku was a pawn to Palpatine in those movies. That was his role. Those movies weren't about his tragic fall. Could he have been done far better? Yeah, I think so. But to call him the worst? I don't agree. He had the role he was primed for, to me.

This wasn't retcon just so y'all know. The corruption of the Senate has p much always been understood to be the reason he turned from the Jedi. He even said as much to Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones. Him fighting Yaddle is def new however.
Speaking of Yaddle, as far as I know, her only appearance in the movies/television was during one scene in the council chamber during The Phantom Menace. She was however, strangely absent during Qui-gon's funeral in that same exact movie. Now we know why.

Dooku fall kinda mirrors Anakin’s fall. In the Clone Wars Anakin slowly became disillusioned with the Jedi Order and the council. Because of the Order he lost his mother(Obi Wah refusing to listen to his nightmares) Because of them he lost Ahsoka. Because of them he’s constantly downgraded for his achievements. And in RoS he was about to lose his beloved because of them(yoda urges to accept it rather than help, though he only operates on half the information). So Anakin switches sides to the one that offers solutions. Like Dooku he kills the symbol of his disillusionment( Dooku kills Yaddle who represents Yoda, Anakin kills Mace the source of his Jedi problems) and like Dooku he falls to his knees asking himself “ What have I done?”

Except we DON'T see the motivations. Big missing piece is how exactly Sidious convinced Dooku to cause so much death and destruction to thousands of innocents for the vague promise of "freedom". Even in this episode, Dooku expressed misgivings about the atrocities he was complicit in causing, then he simply discarded those feelings.
