There is a group of desert frogs called...Desert Rain Frogs. They look like potatoes and ball sacks with nubby legs and a face on the front, though some have a bit of a turkey neck. They can't really hop or swim, but what they can do is dig and burrow real well, so they dig down into the sand until they find built up moisture and a good temperature and live down there, soaking up the water from the environment and vibing. They produce a mucus slime while down there that helps them retain moisture as well as gunk up the sand so the burrows keep their shape. When it eventually rains, the rain coming down alerts them to the fact that there will be puddles and bugs up on the surface, so they dig up out of their homes to eat like crazy and breed. Most types lay their eggs in the shallow puddles, and usually the eggs develop quite fast into froglets so that they don't dry out, but some also just lay fully developed babies inside soft eggs that can just eat their way free and go about life. As the puddles dry up, they dig back down into the sand and repeat the process.
There are also some desert/sandy toads that exist that have an easier time since toads are better at handling drier climates. They burrow a lot, too, but not as much.

19:40 a good way to remember where you came from in an instance like this, when you run from the oasis to the pyramid there, and then you can't see back to the oasis from the pyramid you arrive at, is to simply drop a recognizable item or three on the ground when you're like 3 or 4 yards from the pyramid. That way when its time to go back you'l know which direction to run, assuming the item(s) doesn't/don't despawn...
If there are already items around the area, sticks and stones and whatnot, then you can just drop a small pile of items, like a palm frond, a stick, and a scorpion tail, and that way you wont confuse "your" rock for the thirty other rocks around the area. It's a good idea to test the game's despawn habits before dropping several items, though.

One day, far far ago, there was no desert in that continent but big rainy forests with many different species of frogs, then the continent moved in the actual position and the desert start to kick in. The frogs lived in areas day by day smaller, until they found their self literally trapped in oasis. There's very interesting frogs in Africa btw, many of them are worth of!
