Onodera was my best girl since the beginning.But for some reason i always tought that Raku and Chitoge would make a better couple.And now your video explains why.If Onodera was the choosen one,she would have never grow as a person.She would be that cliche submissive wife we always see in animes.And as you pointed,that is NOT a good thing!
love is love and in all scenarios, Raku would still be happy ... even if she is depicted as the perfect waife, it does NOT matter if she was an obedient wife but what matters at the end is her happiness, people think that obedient is being 100% submissive to your husband which is incorrect, in a relationship you MUST leave that ego so that the relationship goes well, I would use the word "survive" but thats only in critical situation, you love it or not it does not necessarily mean a "bad" thing =)
When i think about Onodera not winning I feel... Frustration. It was so close from the beginning, they both were so close to confessing but always either their shyness, fear or some random event kept the status quo between them, till it was to late. Almost as Tantalus' suffering - being unable to reach something, even tho it's so close.
i've watched so many anime and it's been years since the anime and manga ended, yet onodera still holds a special place in my heart that no other anime character has ever reached. thanks for making this video, and happy birthday onodera!
I binge read Nisekoi for the first time last year and it left me feeling all the feels. For people who haven’t read/watched and only have a opinion based on the synopsis (which was me before reading), please read the manga so you can understand the characters more. (cough Tsugumi is my fave though aha).
@Quality Time ik this is 10 months late but i HIGHLY recommend starting from the beginning. S2 skips very important chapters, but if you don’t want to start at the beginning, start at chapter 106.
I love this video so much. I'm a hard core Chitoge fan but I couldn't really understand Onodera until this video its bittersweet and really well explained
I discovered Nisekoi only a week ago. I knew absolutely nothing about it, but I read it, and finished the entire thing within a week. And by far, I did not expect to feel as much pain as I did as when Kosaki was rejected. I routed for her since chapter 1 and yet I couldnt understand why she was rejected. This video seriously helped me see Nisekoi in a deeper light. I had not considered the fact that everyone was changing through their time with Raku except for Kosaki. And yes, what makes it so tragic is that she was on the right path of growing more courageous, but she was too late to action. But through her rejection, she was able to grow more as a person. This video felt like the complete package to wrap up the story in a very poetic way. (as I am still very emotionally wrecked from that rejection I read just yesterday)
You see this concept of ideal vs reality so often LaLaLand is an equally great example of the same concept Sometimes we love things or people because they represent the perfection and fairy tale we wish to be a part of The unfortunate truth is that reality isn’t always so pleasant I remember watching this show and always wanting onodera to come out on top When I watched LaLa Land, I wanted the perfect ending to happen, where they both get the jobs they want and the ideal loves of their life Not a couple months after watching LaLa Land, I began a relationship with my now ex girlfriend It was both of our first relationships and 4 years later it still remains the only one I’ve ever had This relationship began less than a year before we would go on to graduate highschool and move on to college, each of us going to universities in different states, Tennessee for me and New York for her We both agreed to do long distance and at first it was amazing, it worked out, we made it work, and still made every effort to visit each other over breaks and spend time together back home in the summer I was convinced I could outlast the battle between idealism and reality, constantly telling myself that it would all work out and I would prove the world wrong in being able to get what I want I thought I’d already made it through the thick of the battle, but slowly I realized that it hadn’t even started yet As time went on and the distance remained, I realized I was losing my feelings for this person I still loved her, but not in the same way I once did I cared about her, I still do, but I was becoming comfortable, letting myself go, and began letting her become a failsafe rather than a motivation to improve I wasn’t in love with her anymore, I was in love with the idea of her. What she represented to me and what being with her proved to myself and the world. It’s not like i found other people or wanted to go mess around, or that I couldn’t stay loyal. I simply came to the realization that I no longer was considering what I want in my own life as much as I was what was best for our lives I was spending nights awake FaceTiming her for hours and constantly searching for cheap travel fare to New York... I would ditch my friends on the weekends to spend time talking to her instead. I was even looking for ways to make moving to New York a possibility after college, between rent and a job. And slowly but surely that realization kept growing, eventually leading me to finally end the relationship about this time last year... It was one of the most painful things to do, and having to hear her not understand, whether she didn’t realize it yet either, or simply willfully ignored it in perseverance of the ideal, it was surely even more painful for her. I broke her heart, and even now I still feel guilty about it all the time. I truly hope someday she understands at least a little bit the way I felt She’s essentially excommunicated me, and I haven’t spoke to her since about a week after the breakup Often at low points in my life now I still wonder if I did the right thing and sometimes let myself become consumed with regret But I just watched this show again, finishing it last week and going on to read the manga to finish the story And now seeing this video it really hits me what I always knew but never was ready to acknowledge... I too am finally able to grow again... experiences I’ve had now i know I never could’ve experienced while still trying to preserve the idealism of a perfect love that I thought I had More now than ever, I am realizing that sometimes perfect isn’t always a good thing This was a way longer post than I originally intended but I just kept typing, congrats to any of you who made it this far Anyways I still do care about her and hope she’s doing well... I hope she is able to grow even more from me, finding someone who will enhance her own life in ways she never would have been able to if we had chose to remain comfortable for the rest of our lives...
Damn son I already like Onodera as a character and this opened my eyes to how much more nuance she has as a character. Nisekoi really is one of the best romance manga.
I absolutely loved the video and was able to see a different perspective in how Komi wrote her. I still have my grudges with the writing, specially in terms to the christmas arc where Raku and Kosaki both were the same when it came to the idea of forgetting about the lockets when they realize they truly just wanted to spend time together in the tree, even if it means risking the promise. But your video really put in point Kosakis purpose in another light, that I truly appreciated.
Kind of weird since its two sides of perfection against each other, the shy, cute and submissive yamato nadeshiko vs the imperfect, American standard girl who is unfiltered and unhinged. Both have flaws yet both are perfect in their own ways

damn, getting me to tear up every time you release a video about Nisekoi or Love Live, your content is amazing and the amount of passion you put in it is fantastic and emotional (the way you put it in words feels a lot like you are in the series and experienced their personality in person).
So basically the real lesson learned from Nisekoi is, *_DIFFERENT KINDS OF LOVE_* *THE CHILDHOOD/PUPPY LOVE CRUSH* (aka Onodera & Raku). This is someone you've liked since you were young or someone you just are kind of infatuated with and seem to like. However, at the end of the day that's all it is. *UNREQUITED LOVE* (Marika>Raku). You can like someone a ton let them know you like them and some times you'll get rejected, just move on and be happy for them, that's life. *DEEP/FRIENDSHIP LOVE* (Chitoge-Raku) Now people have different opinions on love but I'll throw this in here. You want someone you can be best friends with and get along with, someone you can depend on and will push you to be better and accept your many faults *_APPROACH TO LOVE_* Disclaimer Different approaches will have different results in different contexts, most of these ways will work for certain people in certain situations in real life. Not saying one is better over any other. *YOLO GO GET 'EM!* (Marika). Very blunt and direct about the person you like, ask them out point blank let them know. *PASSIVE* (Onodera). Don't let them know that you like them but try and be around them and quietly hint that you do and do things for the person to try and express it. *FRIENDSHIP BUILDINGS* (Chitoge). Build a friendship with a person get to know them, support them as they go along and hope that they reciprocate your feelings one day. *BURY IT DEEP* (Tsugumi/Haru so far=p). Don't tell or show the person that you like them, either due to outside circumstances or you are too shy. AND BASICALLY SHYNESS can sometimes be a DANGEROUS thing, it can make someone LOSE everything they hold DEAR. Just because of their INABILITY to SPEAK UP. SO MAKE A MOVE CUZ IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!!! man. this video made me cry so hard!!!!! it's been years since nisekoi ended. even though I love chitoge and always knew she was going to win, onodera's kindness shaped me into the ideal girl I wanted to be when I was younger. I cried a lot when she was rejected, and for years I couldn't feel the complete feeling of satisfaction with the ending, until I saw this video now. the symbolism of the cake is perfect. know that she has a husband and a daughter and is finally happy also makes me so happy. thank you very much for this video!
for someone who doesnt still know why Ichijou picked Chitoge, Onodera hasn't told Ichijou that she loves him (or lets say she has failed to tell Ichijou the confession), Ichijou thought that they weren't meant together, so he hardly moved on, and picked Chitoge, But Marrying Chitoge for love is the only choice for Ichijou, but Onodera Confessed late, (on the comic episode/chapter, there is called "Confession" where Onodera Confessed late) so thats why Ichijou left Onodera behind. Edit: I am team Onodera, and watching Onodera lost, broke me, but you just need to move on, but still for now and forever, #TeamOnodera

Yea Onodera was held back so much by her shyness and lack of growth. After watching her from day 1 up to the last, it was just heartbreaking. Everytime that she gets the chance to confess her feelings, something unfortunate always happens and interupts. The Romeo & Juliet play, their last scene on their secret spot and so on. But in the near end, during the mall scene. That was her last chance. But she blew it by tucking in those feelings yet again. Ugh! I was Team Chitoge but I felt really bad for Onodera.
I finally found this channel again, a bunch of the vids like the first nisekoi got taken down which is a shame cause i really enjoyed the style and presentation, i so wish there was a way to watch that first vid again
I like Chitoge a lot more because she’s flawed. Onodera was the path of least resistance and on paper the best choice. However, time and time again Raku will go through hell and back to help Chitoge for nothing in return but because he wanted too. I think in it’s own way that’s the most unconditional form of love. I mean it’s the same for real life too. I’m in love with the fantasy of being a Singer or like a popstar but that’s not counting the journey and the bits in between. If I’m not willing to sacrifice the comfort of the fantasy and actually pursue it then no, I don’t want to be a musical artist it’s an ideal. My feelings aren’t genuine enough to know in my bones it’s what I want to do.
I agree, Onodera and Raku was very close yet very distant. Throughout the entire interaction from first to start it's always the same, there's no growth. While being with Chitoge, Raku experienced tons of things, like things you would actually felt in an actual relationship.

That's exactly what i think when i watch the anime. Everyone fall in love with onodera because she is perfect.But the problem is you start idealising that person more than you love. and they didn't show much sides of onodera like they do with chitoge. You hate her first because of her violence but then you start see her vulnerable sides aslo which she except in the end you she her shyness,sad, laugh,heart and to not feel uncomfortable she punches and runaway. but in onodera you want to with her because she is comfortably but i want to know more about her to fall hard. That's why i 110% agree with you that you feel warm with onodera but the spark and fire bring chitoge is what makes it sad but true happy ending. i feel for all of them especially these 2. the only happy ending can be a harem ending which is not possible......or is it(@ @) fanart i hope they give us that. 😭 please give us🙏.
To everyone whichever side you are, It's gonna hurt even if he choose onodera they are both in there own way special. You can say you like her and not other but you can't hate any, so please stop fighting. Even in the end they both push him to other beause they also develop that type of friendship with one another. Love can happen with anyone and he chooses what he want in the end and he confesses to onodera also which in result hurt her less because she know the both loved each other but the time they took to confess is when someone else make her space in both of their heart. I've read the manga in 2015 and understood it but not that clearly as I was only 12 years old and it was my first rom-com, until I found this. I had my own debate on which is the best between Chitoge and Onodera, until I just went with Chitoge but looking back at this anime, Onodera was always my favorite and ideal girl and changed my opinion to her as the best but something seemed wrong about her. This whole video showed the answer and also widened my perspective on love even more. This made me like Onodera more and support or help someone like her in real life. This video really captured me till the end and made my heart melt. Props to the content creator, you got yourself a new sub❤❤ P.S I never really comment on videos but this is my first time and I feel so cringey cause I'm bad at sentence construction 😅😅
I abandonded nisekoi world back in 2016. In 2021 i rewatched/read it again. Now i remember all the memories i had back then and why i said to myself back at that time to not watch nisekoi again. Its because its too hard for me to move on from this series
All of the girls were best you can't possibly hate any of them. I wished he could marry everyone but this won't happen he had to choose one that's what make this anime great. It is much more deeper and emotional story the ost hits hard the sadness of seeing them rejected their love for him which didn't change even after years. Every time i just hear lost lf words ost i cry this is one of the best romance series.
I finally got to finishing Nisekoi so I could get back to this video, wasn't disappointed! Awesome job as always, Wut. I've been standing on Team Chitoge since I started this, but honestly the way you put it makes feel so hard for her losing, it was so simple...I definitely get her better now so thanks for this lovely video, can't wait to reread all this someday so I can learn even more.
Why are there so many comments saying that bokuben ended better than Nisekoi... when its still NOT DONE yet? Like I get that those comments are all from #teamkosaki people who aren't happy that their waifu lost, and I love Kosaki as well, but like goddamn, at least wait for bokuben to be over to say something. This is such a beautiful study on nisekoi. Onodera losing made me have a conflict with myself. I wont be lying if I said that I almost fell into depression and had to convince myself that she has had a good ending. I was able to console myself after reading the 10 years afterstory where her bakery got popular. And seeing her happy finished that conflict in me. Nisekoi is simply mastery, mastery in writing and character development. All this was meant to be and all of us knew this from the start but it still hit like a truck. I actually saw your voice breaking down a bit during your commentary, I think you were overwhelmed by the emotions. It is simply a beautiful series, one that changed my life for the better. Kosaki was perfect, all she had to do was say i love you. But she couldn't say that because of the fear of CHANGE. By the time she did confess it was already too late, raku already found the real definition of love in chitoge "Love is heavy and light, bright and dark, hot and cold, sick and healthy, asleep and awake- its everything except what it is!". This line suited both kosaki and chitoge, but Raku found happiness in being with chitoge. Happiness that he couldn't ever find in kosaki. Tbh i feel happy that Raku chose Chitoge, because if he didn't choose chitoge this story wouldn't be "The Ultimate Love Story".

Oh god. after finishing the manga just now, i was crying with sadness and joy at the same time. god i'm glad to find the perfect video for this explanation but still hits me hard from seeing her finally confessed after all those long years, waiting to get more closer and closer until it was already too late for her.
Also i couldn't help to notice that one of the soundtracks you used in the video was from the Monogatari series! (Spoilers ahead) Assuming you have watched everything It's possible to see how Onodera and Hanekawa are similar The perfect ideal girl that was made to be with the protagonist But both of them didn't end up like this Both of them were different from the other girls because they weren't able to confront their feelings and actually change (Onodera never left her comfort zone and Hanekawa literally supressed her feelings at the point they became monsters that she would evetually have to face) And finally they only became truly free when they confront their feelings by confessing their love to the man they were always in love with. And both Araragi and Raku rejects them because their already loved someone else. And they are finally able to move on because of the freedom they gain by expressing themselves. Both Araragi and Raku actually liked them at some point but again they were in love with the image of the perfect girl And It just wasnt what they actually needed Anyways Just a quick though Great video!! This was honestly one of the best videos I’ve seen on yt last alone anime. I felt sad for Onodera you explained all the opportunities she had but due to shyness didn’t confess. Although I ain’t mad that Raku ended up with chitoge just sad for Onodera. KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK!
This is so great😭 this explains my feelings towards Onodera watching the show I would get so mad because it was all right there for her but she did nothing it almost turned me completely off from her character but I love this prospective it shows a lot!
damn I just re read Nisekoi after what feels like ages, this video was amazing, when re reading it the biggest thing I noticed was you could look at chapter 1 Onodera and chapters in the 200s and she was essentially identical.
It feels like Onodera was held back as hard as possible because Chitoge was destined to win ever since the one shot, because this story is about False Love. Like you said, literally the only thing holding her back was that shyness, which she would've developed out of over 200+ chapters if she ever had the chance to begin with. The ending was decided since the beginning and her development would contradict that ending. So without any progression for her, Raku eventually moved on to achieve that false love and it became too late for Onodera. Tbh I just wish she had a fighting chance, but I know it's not really possible for this kind of story. In the end, she almost feels like a tragic heroine. Thank you for such a thoughtful and well-presented video, and on Onodera's birthday too! Also would it be possible to upload the animated panels anywhere, like the one at 2:15? I'd love to use it as my wallpaper in Wallpaper Engine!
For me Chitoge its the best cause she kind and fun to be with. And she really kind like as in she give up her happiness for other people example of Giving the key to onodera. To unlock the pendant raku have.. And she even go to other countries just that her friend can be happy but in the end. It’s not like i found other people or wanted to go mess around, or that I couldn’t stay loyal. I simply came to the realization that I no longer was considering what I want in my own life as much as I was what was best for our lives
I was spending nights awake FaceTiming her for hours and constantly searching for cheap travel fare to New York... I would ditch my friends on the weekends to spend time talking to her instead. I was even looking for ways to make moving to New York a possibility after college, between rent and a job.
And slowly but surely that realization kept growing, eventually leading me to finally end the relationship about this time last year...
It was one of the most painful things to do, and having to hear her not understand, whether she didn’t realize it yet either, or simply willfully ignored it in perseverance of the ideal, it was surely even more painful for her. I broke her heart, and even now I still feel guilty about it all the time. I truly hope someday she understands at least a little bit the way I felt
She’s essentially excommunicated me, and I haven’t spoke to her since about a week after the breakup
Often at low points in my life now I still wonder if I did the right thing and sometimes let myself become consumed with regret
But I just watched this show again, finishing it last week and going on to read the manga to finish the story
And now seeing this video it really hits me what I always knew but never was ready to acknowledge...
I too am finally able to grow again... experiences I’ve had now i know I never could’ve experienced while still trying to preserve the idealism of a perfect love that I thought I had

Damn son I already like Onodera as a character and this opened my eyes to how much more nuance she has as a character. Nisekoi really is one of the best romance manga.
I absolutely loved the video and was able to see a different perspective in how Komi wrote her. I still have my grudges with the writing, specially in terms to the christmas arc where Raku and Kosaki both were the same when it came to the idea of forgetting about the lockets when they realize they truly just wanted to spend time together in the tree, even if it means risking the promise. But your video really put in point Kosakis purpose in another light, that I truly appreciated.
Kind of weird since its two sides of perfection against each other, the shy, cute and submissive yamato nadeshiko vs the imperfect, American standard girl who is unfiltered and unhinged. Both have flaws yet both are perfect in their own ways

*DEEP/FRIENDSHIP LOVE* (Chitoge-Raku) Now people have different opinions on love but I'll throw this in here. You want someone you can be best friends with and get along with, someone you can depend on and will push you to be better and accept your many faults
*_APPROACH TO LOVE_*
Disclaimer Different approaches will have different results in different contexts, most of these ways will work for certain people in certain situations in real life. Not saying one is better over any other.
*YOLO GO GET 'EM!* (Marika). Very blunt and direct about the person you like, ask them out point blank let them know.
*PASSIVE* (Onodera). Don't let them know that you like them but try and be around them and quietly hint that you do and do things for the person to try and express it.

it's been years since nisekoi ended. even though I love chitoge and always knew she was going to win, onodera's kindness shaped me into the ideal girl I wanted to be when I was younger. for someone who doesnt still know why Ichijou picked Chitoge, Onodera hasn't told Ichijou that she loves him (or lets say she has failed to tell Ichijou the confession), Ichijou thought that they weren't meant together, so he hardly moved on, and picked Chitoge, But Marrying Chitoge for love is the only choice for Ichijou, but Onodera Confessed late, (on the comic episode/chapter, there is called "Confession" where Onodera Confessed late) so thats why Ichijou left Onodera behind.

Yea Onodera was held back so much by her shyness and lack of growth. After watching her from day 1 up to the last, it was just heartbreaking. Everytime that she gets the chance to confess her feelings, something unfortunate always happens and interupts. The Romeo & Juliet play, their last scene on their secret spot and so on. But in the near end, during the mall scene. That was her last chance. But she blew it by tucking in those feelings yet again. Ugh! I was Team Chitoge but I felt really bad for Onodera.
"To place someone else's happiness above one's own happiness" is the thing I loved the most about Onodera because it's something I can relate to.

Now we need the video about why Chitoge can win this supposed to be un-win-able battle of love, how she changed Raku, how Raku overcome himself.
I like Chitoge a lot more because she’s flawed. Onodera was the path of least resistance and on paper the best choice. However, time and time again Raku will go through hell and back to help Chitoge for nothing in return but because he wanted too. I think in it’s own way that’s the most unconditional form of love. I mean it’s the same for real life too. I’m in love with the fantasy of being a Singer or like a popstar but that’s not counting the journey and the bits in between. If I’m not willing to sacrifice the comfort of the fantasy and actually pursue it then no, I don’t want to be a musical artist it’s an ideal. My feelings aren’t genuine enough to know in my bones it’s what I want to do.
I agree, Onodera and Raku was very close yet very distant. Throughout the entire interaction from first to start it's always the same, there's no growth. While being with Chitoge, Raku experienced tons of things, like things you would actually felt in an actual relationship.

Everyone fall in love with onodera because she is perfect.But the problem is you start idealising that person more than you love. and they didn't show much sides of onodera like they do with chitoge. You hate her first because of her violence but then you start see her vulnerable sides aslo which she except in the end you she her shyness,sad, laugh,heart and to not feel uncomfortable she punches and runaway. but in onodera you want to with her because she is comfortably but i want to know more about her to fall hard.

I've read the manga in 2015 and understood it but not that clearly as I was only 12 years old and it was my first rom-com, until I found this. I had my own debate on which is the best between Chitoge and Onodera, until I just went with Chitoge but looking back at this anime, Onodera was always my favorite and ideal girl and changed my opinion to her as the best but something seemed wrong about her. This whole video showed the answer and also widened my perspective on love even more. This made me like Onodera more and support or help someone like her in real life. This video really captured me till the end and made my heart melt. Props to the content creator, you got yourself a new sub❤❤

I abandonded nisekoi world back in 2016. In 2021 i rewatched/read it again. Now i remember all the memories i had back then and why i said to myself back at that time to not watch nisekoi again. Its because its too hard for me to move on from this series

All of the girls were best you can't possibly hate any of them. I wished he could marry everyone but this won't happen he had to choose one that's what make this anime great. It is much more deeper and emotional story the ost hits hard the sadness of seeing them rejected their love for him which didn't change even after years. Every time i just hear lost lf words ost i cry this is one of the best romance series.

This is such a beautiful study on nisekoi. Onodera losing made me have a conflict with myself. I wont be lying if I said that I almost fell into depression and had to convince myself that she has had a good ending. I was able to console myself after reading the 10 years afterstory where her bakery got popular. And seeing her happy finished that conflict in me. Nisekoi is simply mastery, mastery in writing and character development. All this was meant to be and all of us knew this from the start but it still hit like a truck. I actually saw your voice breaking down a bit during your commentary, I think you were overwhelmed by the emotions. It is simply a beautiful series, one that changed my life for the better. Kosaki was perfect, all she had to do was say i love you. But she couldn't say that because of the fear of CHANGE. By the time she did confess it was already too late, raku already found the real definition of love in chitoge "Love is heavy and light, bright and dark, hot and cold, sick and healthy, asleep and awake- its everything except what it is!".
This line suited both kosaki and chitoge, but Raku found happiness in being with chitoge. Happiness that he couldn't ever find in kosaki. Tbh i feel happy that Raku chose Chitoge, because if he didn't choose chitoge this story wouldn't be "The Ultimate Love Story".

It's possible to see how Onodera and Hanekawa are similar
The perfect ideal girl that was made to be with the protagonist
But both of them didn't end up like this
Both of them were different from the other girls because they weren't able to confront their feelings and actually change (Onodera never left her comfort zone and Hanekawa literally supressed her feelings at the point they became monsters that she would evetually have to face)
And finally they only became truly free when they confront their feelings by confessing their love to the man they were always in love with. And both Araragi and Raku rejects them because their already loved someone else.
And they are finally able to move on because of the freedom they gain by expressing themselves.
Both Araragi and Raku actually liked them at some point but again they were in love with the image of the perfect girl
And It just wasnt what they actually needed

This is so great😭 this explains my feelings towards Onodera watching the show I would get so mad because it was all right there for her but she did nothing it almost turned me completely off from her character but I love this prospective it shows a lot!
damn I just re read Nisekoi after what feels like ages, this video was amazing, when re reading it the biggest thing I noticed was you could look at chapter 1 Onodera and chapters in the 200s and she was essentially identical.
The only difference I feel like was that she was trying to be more assertive later on, as she was inspired by Marika after she left for America
It feels like Onodera was held back as hard as possible because Chitoge was destined to win ever since the one shot, because this story is about False Love. Like you said, literally the only thing holding her back was that shyness, which she would've developed out of over 200+ chapters if she ever had the chance to begin with. The ending was decided since the beginning and her development would contradict that ending. So without any progression for her, Raku eventually moved on to achieve that false love and it became too late for Onodera. Tbh I just wish she had a fighting chance, but I know it's not really possible for this kind of story. In the end, she almost feels like a tragic heroine.
