Great wrap up! It's always fun to see how people rank their books!
I agree with your review of Heaven and Earth. Too many characters and not enough story. I really want to read Covenant of Water because I loved his other book, Cutting for Stone.
I’ve had Heaven and Earth Grocery Store and The Reformatory on my want to read lists for awhile, and will read them eventually. I’m adding Absolution to my lists now and I may look into the Rachel Incident . Great video, thanks!
Thank you Sandy. Rachel is very unique for sure.
Great wrap up! I judged the fiction section in the first round with The Reformatory and rated it number one as well. Then I judged nonfiction in the second round. The nonfiction books were a lot more close in where I thought about ranking them then my fiction round books were. For that first round it was fairly clear what my top 3-4 were and for nonfiction, there was only one that was clearly the last place book. The rest were more interchangeable, in a good way. So glad that you loved The Reformatory also. I hope that it goes into the finals!
I’m sitting out the semifinals and probably will try to judge the finals. It’s been a fun experience and pushed me to read some books that I may have never picked up.
Thank you so much. I appreciated reading about your experience with the BT Prize too. I hope the Reformatory goes all the way as well. I'll watch for you in the finals as well.
I'm so glad to hear your review of Absolution. I've had it on my shelves for a while (it was a selection at my bookstore's book and wine night back in January, I think) and I just haven't prioritized it yet but I need to. The Reformatory really intrigues me! I've listened to talks from Colson Whitehead and Erin Kimmerle, who both wrote about that school (Dr. Kimmerle is the forensic anthropologist who was tasked with finding unmarked graves on the school property), and it's history is horrifying but important to really be seen. Great video!
I hope you like it. And yes! I must learn more about this place and the discoveries. It’s heartbreaking and yet I’m glad it’s getting attention. So we can remember them. 💔
@@BooksInkandPaper Kimmerle’s book is called We Carry Their Bones. It’s really worth a read.
I might have to resurrect my booktube channel just to get in on this next year.
Oh I would love to see you return - I am glad I did for sure.
I have emailed Robert to try and be a judge for 2025, hope I am picked! Loved your video, I have the Reform story on my TBR from Ward ark book club.
Won't let me edit but it should read Reformatory.
I hope you are picked too! Let me know how you feel about The Reformatory when you are finished.
