'It is very exciting': Pelicans return to Hat Island on the Great Salt Lake

I live in Utah, and the pelican population around the lake had dropped significantly over about a decade. My husband and I would love to see them flying around the mountain. Along with the occasional Bald Eagle or two. It seemed like one day it was gone. No pelicans and no Bald Eagles. It would be a joy to see them come back. It's been far too long.

Since 1943, we’ve successfully kept Pelicans off of the island. This year we failed.
