Does anyone else really appreciate the combination of great photography, natural sound of the birds and the selection of great music to heighten the action? I was on the edge of my chair watching this. I love documentaries like this --- and especially with birds.
This footage has become one of my favourites and the white bird is Damn beautiful while the pirate bird's are truly pirates with the ocean and the chase...it was really like a movie!
Mother nature at her/his/its finest. Beautiful how each are built for extreme aerodynamics, as well as, their roles and responsibilities to their young.
I have rewatched this many times and its still exciting as the first time. The music, Davids commentary and of course the birds in flight chasing and trying to get away... just wow 👌🏿👌🏿
Yes, This shows animals are more than what we think ...that thief bird is so aware of its surroundings that sees the moment the other bird drops the fish...also so accurate catching that fish in the air before falling to the sea
The air battle of these birds seems like a reenactment of US and Japan's rivalry during the Pacific War, and what makes it more realistic is the use of thrilling background sounds.
You actually mean, jets look like the White-tailed Tropicbird (Phaeton lepturus). Tropicbirds have been on our planet for millennial eons. Manufactured, operative jets haven't been in our world for one century.
Trust me, they have. F22s and Su 50s are capable of things these birds aren't, but obviously these birds are also capable of things no fighter jet is capable of
Man-o-war birds : "nice catch you got there pip squeaks, gimme that !" red-billed tropic bird : "No!, this is my all day hard work, I got family to feed" Man-o-war birds : ":who cares, this is my territory !!, my rules !!" government : "I found my spirit animal"
In Hawaii they are called "Iwa" birds, pronounced "Eeva", and when I was a fisherman there I watched them glide for hours without flapping their wings. Fishermen in Hawaii use them to catch Pacific Blue Marlin because the Iwa birds follow the Marlin, hoping to snag the small baitfish Marlin push to the surface when they feed. "Follow the Iwa bird, find the Blue Marlin."
3:33, this is the moment, when you put everything you have on the line, struggled, failed, tried again, improvised, improved, and finally succeeded... And all these not for yourself, but for someone you care for, for their good, a greater cause. This is the moment of enlightenment.
An arms race in the air. Frigate birds cannot win the war or else complete victory will wipe out their species. The other side has to find ways to survive the attacks. It seems both populations are thriving. Balance of nature. Beautiful video. Thanks
Whoever captured this footage of the dogfight in the air, is a master of his craft. And, the editing was amazing too.

pirate bird 💀
This clip alone was more engaging than half the action films I've seen this decade.
Including Joker ?
@@ossamaalhosain8141 That's a thriller, not really an action flic. Take for example War of the Worlds, 2012, Deep Blue Sea 2, or Fast and Furious.

Agreed
That is a true battle. Spectacular, because you know the winner will get the ultimate prize - food.
The winner's child will get the food.
I always thought the ultimate price is sex with a female
Salute to BBC cameramen who have made this nature,s rare and unique scenes visible for us.
This is more exciting to watch than fighter planes in a war movie. Thanks for sharing!
wow just incredible to watch them in the air. I love watching gulls but the Frigate is truly Magnificent.
Frigate Birds really have that nice symmetrical look; so sleek and streamlined.
Agreed! I believe that's part of why they're so good at flying, in fact. Like living jets.

Seabirds are really masters of flying. 👏

They're also able to swim, dive and walk. They are something like super species... ducks too :D

Naval aviators are always the best. In the animal kingdom and in the human world!
@@Ninja-iw5zp not all of the, some of the best flying ones aren't. (heck the frigate in the video isn't either)
This is an amazing clip. Thank you for uploading, BBC Earth!
2:20 - the way the thief bird caught the regurgitated fish in mid air was all that I needed to freakin give this video a like ...

Never knew these types of birds exists before 😳 this channel is frikking amazing 👍
In my country I often see frigatebirds near the coast. They look so ominous as they silently soar along.
Ik right I luv this channel alot
Look up the courting habits of frigatebirds sometime! They're hilarious!
They reminded me of the pokemon articuno

There is no battle, this is lopsided bullying. It's like when a tough bully takes your lunch money in grade school.
The Man-O-War birds with their Delta positioning of flight was such so mesmerizing. And also How they swooped in.
The attack @1:55 was flawless - brings a new meaning to the term 'lunch bully'
David Attenborough's voice is soothing makes me watch the videos🔥❤
Thats was so much better than the Air to Air dogfights in fighter jets! Homeboy was scootin outta there to avoid getting his lunch nabbed.
The Commitment and hard work of parents for their children against all odds : brought out wonderfully by BBC and golden voice of Attenborough.👌👌👏🙏
I’ve learned that no matter how much life can knock you down you just gotta keep flyin🦅
Such an epic dogfight, fighter size vs. Bomber size...i like the white bird, she has beautiful tail...some more
Thanks to this video
Even in the air there are thieves.

Amazing camera work 😀
A predator prey relationship that isnt bloody. Very interesting.
It's more of a thief-victim relationship.
It's a parasitic relationship, while not hurting the host itself, it could be endangering the chick
Think about fish. Isn't it bloody or fishy?
Oh my god so beautiful birds I really like 👍

I'm like 99% sure frigatebirds has the least wingload of any bird
Frigatebirds are very agile and aerial. They can stay airborne even for months without landing. The sky is their home. They even sleep on the wing.
Love the shapes of these birds!
