So many people talk about how they couldn't write their own lyrics. The problem with this is that most of their bars have age on them. For instance, in Sindhu Sesh, Pete does an entire stanza on MLK and falling asleep to the sound of the hoover. This is a reference to MLK being assassinated by Hoover, head of the FBI. Then the next word is Nightmare. Converting the dream for racial equality during the civil rights movement into a nightmare at his assassination. What younger writer is pumping out these deep cuts? They have said before that they have their grandkids help with the lingo, but they write their own material. I really think that this is true. Any references to more modern terms that you'd hear in modern drill rap? I'm sure that's where the help is coming from. I have to believe they write their own stuff, though. Truth in subtly. People need to give these Old heads their due. (no commentary on your reactions. Just in general) Love your reactions, guys!
This. No grandkid could have written some of these bars. People just have these deep rooted preconceived notions that they are the logical culmination of human progress and everybody who came before can't help it but also can't escape it: they were poor benighted souls living in the dark ages. Our elders are bumbling fools at anything we like to think of as being our element or native habitat or vernacular. We sell our elders short. That's probably just how young adulthood works- we can't appreciate our elders' genius until we have a few more years under our belts. I think every generation does it. But *especially* with hip hop and it being such a young genre, everybody's just gobsmacked when someone in their 40s gets onstage and doesn't run out of breath after the first song. Like artists are supposed to expire at that age, not get better, and like nobody who's old now could possibly have seen or done any real shit compared to the way things are today (smh). Or understand syncopation or have an ironic perspective on some social commentary, or whatever. It's crazy.
@@banksofchaos93 for real, and a thing people seem to forget is they're from east london, where cockney rhyming slang is from, basically it's own seperate language made from rhyming things together, it's not surprising they can rhyme. having worked in a care home before my favorite part was always hearing their stories and pasts, people have this notion that old people are just old people like they came into existence like that, my mom is a sweet little old lady who knits for her grandkids... but back in her youth she rode around on motorcycles and tried every damn drug she could, my dad's a grumpy old fart but in his youth he was in a beetles style band in the 60's and later on travelled over a lot of the world with his ex wife, in fact, he doesn't even like rap but when i showed him it to try and fire him up and prove to him it's never too late to do what you want he caught on to some old slang even i didn't know (he's around their age and from east london too) old people have stories also everyone seems to forget eminem is like 50 but nobody gives him as much scrutiny, in 20 years he'll be their age and people will just have to accept that getting old doesn't make you mentally incapable of rapping (well, unless you get dementia or decide to lose that spark for life of course)
@@Charlie_surfr that's a valid point... or it would be if it were actually true and not something you pulled out your ass, because they've literally never said that, only that they help them occasionally.
I recently discovered Pete & Bas and I love them! As an almost-60 year old white woman from Texas, I'm sure I'm one of their more unusual fans... I've watched a bunch of reactions and I really enjoyed yours - I'm going to go check out some more!
Pete and Bas spit WAY BETTER than their grandsons on every level, I do NOT think Pete and Bas got this nice on the mic delivering other people's lyrics who can't rap as good as them! Do they consistently give Pete and Bas the good bars for YEARS now, but not keep the good stuff for themselves? I think Pete and Bas write all of it and their grandchildren may punch it up by making sure Pete and Bas are hip to modern vernacular/slang terms used in the hood.. but other than that I think Pete and Bas are currently the JUGGERNAUTS of rap! Well deserved btw!
Bars as tight as their skin is loose. Ride the beat so slippy you'd think they're gonna break a hip. Better watch for ya girl if there's a Silver Alert. 🫡
yep - Cockneys have a great accent - and don't forget Cockney rhyming slang in their DNA - gives an ear for flow and beat - plus bas' music background. This is just so good.
Shit goes so hard reminded me of some BONE THUNGS EAST 1999!!! LOVE THESE REACTIONS TO PETE & BAS!!! WE DONT UNDERSTAND HALF THE STUFF THEY SAY GOTTA REWIND IT AND I DONT UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE SLANG IM IN NORTH CAROLINA USA WE HAVE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT LANGUAGE HERE FELLAS MUCH LOVE! GOD BLESS
Who can watch/listen to Pete & Baz and not smile 😊 They really can spit, I don’t care if they write it or not, but the must collab because of some of the old lingo. Please keep up with the P&B and Ren reactions. You are doing a great job 👍 Bish, Bash Bosh from Pete & Baz next please
How old was Shakespeare? How old was Ernest Hemingway? How old was Edgar Allan Poe? All these writers had age on them. What makes you think? Peter and Basil couldn’t write this as well?
For recommendations on things that hit *DIFFERENT*, if you guys haven't been put onto either of them yet, I *HIGHLY* recommend: That Mexican OT (especially something like "Johnny Dang" for a first listen), and\or Prof (any of "Squad Goals", "Andre the Giant", "Fire Lessons (Lyric Video)")
@@kinseyclose4968 I'd love to see him live but I'm all the way over here in the UK and travelling that far isn't an option for me. Boo. Lucky you though, I'm jealous! ❤️
It’s generally understood that nine and dex help them out with regard to new vernacular “shaking bunda” “selling packs” “whip out a nank” “the mash bangs quicker” Come to mind. But Bas is a musician through & through, extensive background in Jazz instruments and composition. As far as recommendations go, Nine and dex are nice. Their track - “Pecan Pie” will show you most clearly the connection. For Pete and Bas - “Bermondsey” is their most underrated, “Longthorne Shotgun” is a more popular good one and “Golf” ft. Norman Pain is worth it so you get an introduction to Norman.
Found your channel because of the Pete and Bas reaction, great to see some UK reactions.... One suggestion for you and maybe a little out of your channels lane is "Deutchland" by Rammstein... Its had some interesting reactions from the US... One to check out maybe..... The video, and if you know of Germanys history, is mad
_"Agarwood Oud from Mozambique"_ is a sleeper line many miss. Agarwood is one of the most expensive raw and natural ingredients in the world. From it is distilled the oil of Oud , which is used in high end expensive colognes and perfumes.
Nine and Dex - Ignorant Sh** is a great track and those boys can rap and scheme. Young Peter & Basils for sure. It doesn't take anything away from P&B in my mind because it's not the same in any way shape or form.
I don't think 9 and Dex are writing it all, for one there's too many references that are well beyond their years. As for collaboration between artists and producers, thats definitely happening and being acknowledged by Pete & Bas. I think its a mumble delivery 9 and Dex come up with, and then they fill in the lyrics as a whole team. There's a reason when you listen to nine and Dex the flows are similar but are no where near as witty, clever, or powerful as what Pete and Bas put out. Bas in particular has been involved with music his whole life and is a multi-instrumentalist and professional musician... thinking that he's not involved and a big part of putting together these songs is quite funny if you think about it. People are just incredulous because it (their music) is just sooooooo good, and they can't wrap their heads around it not being someone else. As many have noted... this is far above and beyond most of what UK Hip Hop has and is currently putting out. 9 and Dex are good without Pete and Bas, but not at this same level from what I've seen.
No one is making ACTUAL TRACKS this dope let alone someone behind the scenes making REFERENCE TRACKS TO BE COPIED that are this good. No way! And unless that person is getting 90% of what Pete and Bas make, they are wasting their time, talent, money, and fame. They would be one of the sickest rappers out there, and that’s why that’s not happening.
Im thinking if the grandfathers write for them I would hear something of the grandsons in the music and i dont they're a whole different wave .Also a lot of the terms they use makes me think they write most of their bars with maybe some guidance from the grandsons.
