Dave really kicked ass on this video. God bless Jim Tyler and his family. Jim really loved Jesus and I will always remember him in my heart and soul. What an amazing person and would always speak his mind unfiltered. Amazing job Dave. 💗
A lot of this honestly sounds to me like a halfway point between Steve Lukather and David Gilmour. Can't say I've ever been able to describe someone's playing in that way before. It sounds awesome.
I remember hearing a lot about Dann Huff in the 80s. I remember when he got this trio Giant together. Great band. One of the absolutely best guitarists of all time. I remember his Tyler strats. Owned a Boogie 50 Cal which had a similar preamp to the Studio Preamp which I always liked more than the Mark III. The Kasha Rockmod II was also brilliant. Great rig there.
It’s a bit hard to read the display, but the first is at 250MS and feedback at 15. Second is at 500MS and feedback at 25. I don’t think there’s any modulation dialed in. I don’t think Dann tended to use modulation on his SDE units, with the Tri Stereo doing the heavy lifting. He also used a Dimension D and TC1210 too.
Dave, you are a master of your craft - thanks for sharing this for us all to enjoy. Shawn, the outro solo run from Innocent Days was the cherry on top, that was fawkin tasty, dude!
Wow, I had similar rig back in the 90' minus the eventide h3000 and I used two of the Roland SDE 1000 instead of the 3000 brings back a lot of memories I sold it and picked up a twin and a vox with a Marshall JVM as my drive which sounds really good as well anyway I loved all great rigs and cool sounds Thanks.
Shit, this may be the ultimate rack setup: lexicon reverb, Roland delay, dimension, trichorus and detune, para eq and mesa preamp. I would just add a ts808, ce2 for a more standard chorus, a dyna comp, phase 90 and an electric mistress.
Can someone explain to me why rack units sound so much better than individual pedals or multi-fx units? There is something about them where they sound so much more full and not so fake?
What strings and picks are you using here? (brand and gauge for both please) I ask because those two things have a huge effect on getting a particular strat sound. Especially when it comes to positions 2 and 4.
@@RACKDOCTORIs there a particular medium pick that he might have used brand and material/shape? I've used hundreds of medium picks of various materials and still searching for the holy grail. I just came across the Fender premium pearloid picks. I found a medium purple pick captures most of what I hear in Dann's tone. But I'm still searching. I cannot stand jazz picks. They are too stiff and they choke the string vibration.
@@RACKDOCTOR they probably don't make those anymore. But I have tried the Dunlop medium teardrop. Those are the 347 shape. I've also tried the Fender version too. Which are quite different than Dunlop. Thank you for solving a 30-plus year mystery. I can sleep easy at night knowing this now. 🙂
They need to make a version of that guitar that will age nicely like Dann’s original Fender. I hate it when guitars stay perpetually slick and plasticky.
This rules so hard. All of the same cool tones as journey too

Thanks Shawn. You as well. Great playing. Jim's guitars will continue to inspire and his legacy will live for ever.

So great to hear these rock rack tones again that still also can be so emotive. Glad to know my own rack work still follows in the path of the greats.
Bring Back The Rack!
I can't get enough of these rack lead sounds, just incredible along with the chops! 🤘
Thank you.
Impeccable, clean workmanship as always. I really don't think there is anyone better at rig design than you are sir! Thanks for posting!
Thank you. I appreciate it.

Sounds amazing. I could listen to this all day.
Thanks.
Agree😊

They were a 4 piece not a trio
How did I miss all this goodness. Lol. Fun stuff Dave! Love to get the SDE 3000 delay and mod values here on the gain and cleans both
Just for comparison LOL

Oh HELL yes… Getting my popcorn ready as we speak cause this is gonna be EPIC! ❤🔥🤘🏼

Thank you Henry. Hope you enjoy this rack.
Killer playing and tone, Nice rig!
Thank you.

Glorious tones as always.
Fun seeing and hearing this, and then the XTS vid of DH’s 2024 pedalboard for gigs/mobile sessions.
This is good stuff, right here.
Really the 80's sound❤
Seriously Cool David - a labour of Love - Stunning playing and tone samples
Thank you.
I’m a believer.
I still have my Mesa preamp, still sounds great! The graphic has the right frequencies for guitar,! Great sounding rig
Sound soo goood
Soooooo gooooood
Awesome!
AMAZING!!!!
Glorious! What are the delay settings right and left?
Is it dotted eight? Quarter?
Thanks. 500ms L 250ms R
Fucking awesome ❤

Huge.
the real deal !

Sweet🤟😎🎸🎶🎇
4:00 mark was very Alex lifesonesque. Killer stuff
Agreed. Sounding like something off of power windows
The Huffcaster and rack sound amazing!
Quick question…what was Dann using for lower octave sounds on No Way Out - 1st Giant record?
Thanks
Thanks. My guess-Eventide Harmonizer or Boss OC-2.
@@RACKDOCTORThanks Dave
Wrap it up, I’ll take it 🤤

Wet dry wet.
Each unit performs one function instead of multiple functions.
Sounds incredible. What are the two time settings for the SDD-3000s?
Thanks. 500ms L, 250ms R.
@@RACKDOCTOR amazing, thank you!
Are the
Roland delays for left and right speaker feed ing for each individual side? Wdw
Yes. W/W

D'Addario 10 gauge with Dunlop .88 pick. Dann used Dean Markley .009 with medium pick.

The 347 is the large round ones.

All Tyler’s wear in well. This is a non-issue.
Steve Lukather in Paris (1990)
Tone.
Cosmic sounds! They are futuristic dreamy sounds compared to the primitive neanderthalian sounds of punkgrungeemonudeathmetal and assorted GARBAGE!
