Not sure if anyone noted on this yet, but the left joy stick or C stick simply pop off. All you do is pull up on them and they will pop right off. This allows cleaning the joystick mechanism much easier.

The GC controllers are generally easy to open and clean, very reliable too, so if something is wonky (most of the time is thumbsticks) usually Q-tip and Isopropyl alcohol will do the trick, i also tend to do inside the thumbstick mechanism aswell, sometimes dirt and hair gets stuck there for some reason. Cheers!

This is very important video for new retrogamers! I want to add 2 important tips if i may, 1. Although this is a relatively simple clean, in the disassemble part take pictures before every step! It will be much easier to go back, especially when cleaning consoles. 2. Electrical contacts are better be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol (the one you buy on pharmacy the one nurses apply before shots) since it doesn't contain any water and doesn't risk shortcircuit and its cheap.

Phew I finally finished cleaning out my old childhood controller. It was relatively easy except for the last part where you hold the board and plop it onto the other shell. It kept coming out bulky and didn't seem to close shut until I fiddled with it three times. This was very time consuming but it was worth it. Thanks for showing how to open and clean the controller!

So I have no information on why Nintendo specifically chose tri-wing screws, but I know it wasn’t something exclusive to them, at the time many companies pushed tri-wings as more durable and less likely to strip out over Phillips head screws.

8:05 there's actually a plastic post that the cable wraps around so any pull on the cable goes more to the post than the actual connection on the board. Just wanted to throw that little tid bit out. Good video
Ps the plastic post is on the top half of shell. Easier to do buttons lay the board on top then finally bottom shell. At least imo

Seeing that purple plastic behind the motherboard, must be an old T1 type GameCube controller, the early controllers that were sold from 2001 to early 2002 have metal stickboxes, which those have sticks that don’t last for very long.

This is what happens to Xbox 360 controllers when used for at least half a year. HALF A YEAR! IF NOT LUBRICATED! That's a serious and personal problem. Microsoft has never made a solution to this problem right here. Analog sticks need help from the community so over short time periods they don't wear out. Think about it, what if you had an Xbox 360 for 20 years like I will, that'sat least 35 broken analog sticks and thrown away because that's the one thing we always use and the very thing that always breaks, scratching the plastic Microsoft should've seen this coming.

    So, uh, super unpopular opinion?
    The GameCube controller sucks.
One less button (L1) & no clicky sticks (L3 & R3) & no SELECT button equals literally less ability to play games.
It also isn't comfortable: the "handles" are weirdly shaped & proportioned and the sticks are way too hard, uncomfortable plastic. I will admit that it was generally pretty solidly built.
Honestly, the 360 might have the most comfortable controller. The Switch Pro controller is pretty decent, too. [Although the Joy-Cons sadly suck hard - that might just be like my least favorite controller or the least comfortable one...]
The best controller is the PS4 controller, tho. The touchpad is genius: you can touch on it for an input, you can "click" either side as 2 separate inputs, it has the "6 axis" controls [although those are frequently hopelessly imprecise], and it has the OPTIONS button - that's a massive amount of stuff you can do to interact with a game.
