- LCH Helicopter: In a big boost to its combat prowess, the Indian Air Force on Monday inducted the first batch of indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopters, named Prachand, that are capable of firing a range of missiles and other weapons. The Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), developed by state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), has been primarily designed for deployment in high-altitude regions. It was inducted into the IAF at a ceremony in Jodhpur in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.

Nice name Prachand. They should also get a name for LCA Mark 2 -- name it different from Tejas.
Though the meaning of the name is appropriate, I personally felt it unsuitable for a sleek attack chopper of this kind. It felt more like the name of a neighbourhood milkman, and almost as bad as the name they picked for LCA - "Tejas". My own personal choice for LCH was "Skanda". Being another name of Lord Kartikeya who rides a peacock into battle, it felt quite appropriate for an attack chopper as the other HAL armed chopper is named "Rudra". Also, "Prachand" is likely to be mispronounced by foreigners, especially potential foreign customers as they are likely to pronounce the "cha" as "kha". But hey, maybe its just me! 😉
Finally the root of cause of delay in induction of this machine is the name.. here we really worked very hard after the benchmarking..

Defence has moved leaps and bounds under the current government. Just the sheer number of missile tests, new carrier, Tejas, LCH, Brahmos, and other numerous missile platforms 🙏🏻🙏🏻. And yes the Theatre Commands 🔥🔥. Becoming a true military super power 🔥. Thanks to Chinese aggression and a bold Indian government. 🙏🏻
All the projects was designed and developed under UPA govt, LCH had his first trial in 2011, current status of FGFA and AMCA will show the status of current government
@@anish4936 No, you are wrong. Actually, the need arose post-Kargil, the development phase saw three govts. NDA, UPA1, UPA2 and NDA again. Actually, the development is still incomplete. What you see here are limited series production LCH, not production variants. This govt. has been brilliant in shoving indigenous products down the throats of the forces which have got imports in their DNA. However, still more work is needed as imports still rule the game. I'm sure if UPA was in power they would have caved in due to the pressure of the import lobby & imported the product from abroad like they did with Mig fighters in 80s scrapping the indigenous efforts and many more.

It seems they are satisfied with this flying warrior. But actually they are repeating the HAL's view. The other platforms like Chinese, Turkish may challenge this machine in a different manner.
No, they cannot. It is the only helicopter which can do attack operations at very high attitudes like Siachin. Don't forget we also have Apache helis which are the best in the world.

And one thing our Indian government should give HAL the responsibility for entire complete making and Maintenance of Rafael Fighter aircraft , instead to any ineligible experience Private Organization. Because HAL is government organization and more than well capable enough.

I wish they had given a better name for the chopper. "Prachand" feels more like the name of a neighbourhood milkman. "Skanda" (another name of the god of war - Lord Kartikeya) was my personal choice.
@AARYAN But not "Skanda" right? 😉 "Kartikeya" only means the son of Krittikas, while "Skanda" means "Leaper" or "Attacker". Its a shorter name and in my personal opinion is quite suitable for an attack helicopter since there is a strong allusion to Kartikeya flying to battle on his peacock. The problem I see with "Prachand" is that it is more difficult to pronounce, especially if you go about marketing it to foreign customers. Also, foreigners are more likely to mispronounce the name as "Pra-kha-nd". But its just my personal opinion.

The pods attached to the pilons are replaceable.. They aren't fixed.
Hellina has been developed and it's just a matter of integration. There will be a separate pillion capable of carrying 4 Helina each.
@@2km223 The LCA was conceived in 1983 and earliest we will have the Mark 1A is the trial version of the Mark 1A (with things like the inflight refueling probe etc.). Unfortunately "just a matter of..." things in India often take decades to materialize!

Nope it's a helicopter gunships used for combat roles hence not made for civilian transportation rather we have our own ALH Dhruv for military and civilians transportation role

Capability of HAL is always underestimated and Government is giving theka to friend who has become bankrupt.
This heli is a decade late and still series production hasn't started. Tejas, god knows, have been delayed infinite times. I guess it makes no sense to have a monopoly, especially in aviation field. We need multiple firms. And I'm sure with Tata Advanced Systems, L&T, Adani or Ambani etc investing in aviation, we sure will be truely atmanirbhar in a decade or two.
