    Keep it up, just turned 40 myself this year and getting back into skating. As long as you’re having fun that’s all that matters!!!!

    Turning 40 in a couple of weeks and just found your channel. All of the micro progressions will add up over time, at least that is what I tell myself! You are the first channel I have found where I feel like I am having a similar journey with the struggle. Everyone else shows it like they are just progressing really fast and I am still stuck with getting my basics right... keep those bits in as it's real and honest. Selfishly it makes me feel better as I know I am not the only one not suddenly destroying a skatepark with loads of tricks after a couple of months!
    Subscribed so I can try to keep up with your progress in my own skating 😀

      @Ungracefulmovement  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for subbing!! I think you hit the nail on the head for the point of the channel tbh. I progress really slow because I don’t stay focussed; don’t push through my fear of going too fast; and (this is the best reason) I get trapped just having fun with what I CAN do.

    Pretty sure I've said all this before but your content is something I enjoy watching. You keep it real, it's not all cherry picked from the right clips and angles to make you look better than you are. You struggle and you progress. As someone who's a few (or more) steps behind you in skill and about the same age and nationality, I find all the frustration highly relatable and feel your small victories as I do my own.

      Only been at it for a few months and a tiny bit in my teens so I have very basic skate abilities. Just started because my kids started skateboarding and taking them to skateparks and thought why let them have all the fun. Ive watched plenty beginner tutorials but I like how u break it down and show the frustration, commitment issues etc which is all the problems I am facing and shows me to keep going and not give up because i can't do a trick or have a breather and come back to it. keep up the good work mate

    Also, something you said early on. Bending your knees. 9/10 times when I'm feeling less than what I'm trying its partly because I wasnt bending my knees enough. I try to focus on never fully extending them even mid ollie and that has been helping A LOT. I still mess it up constantly, but its something I've had trouble in sports in general my whole life. Bend your knees bend your knees lol this video really does make me wanna get out there this morning. Cheers

    At the risk of offering un solicitated man splaning advice... I've taught skate lessons for the last 10 years to groms and middle aged learners so I feel like your "issue" is one I've seen and corrected a lot.
    Stand with your feet off the board and just pop it up into your hand the way you normally would. You can stand behind the tail as normal, no need to replicate the ollie stance. Do it a bunch, just pop the boards tail off the ground into your hand. Start to focus on your foot and how you are managing to pop the board up off the ground.
    Youll start to notice that if you do it with the flat of your sole, it doesnt work as well as if you are doing it with just your toes.
    The reason for this is because if youre trying to pop the tail with your whole sole flat, you have to straiten your leg, making your foot travel towards the ground, pinching the boards tail between your foot and the concrete.
    Watch your footage from this video back. Your foot is flat, your back foot is moving down as you try to make your body go up (jumping).
    Now stand on the board in the ollie position. Lift your heel on your back foot, like your back foot is on tip toes. Move the ball of your foot more to the center of the tail. Your whole body needs to move up (jumping) except for your back foots toes. Your toes are moving down to flick (not stomp) the tail into the ground while your foot and body are moving upwards.
    Have a look at some slow motion ollie videos and watch their back foot. Then look at your footage and watch your back foot.
    Thats my un solicited advice for today. Keep at um! 🤙

      Thanks. It’s well received. Especially as it’s something I would tell anyone else trying to learn (pooping off the ball of foot / not flat off the ground) but to realise I’m not actually doing it myself is a big deal. I’ll definitely try to apply some of this next time out!!

      I’m 53 and trying really hard to get my Ollie past six inches.
      Unfortunately age is a major factor in this. It’s why so many old guys are into slappys. Doing squats and toe lifts helps a bunch. The most important thing to do is have fun and enjoy what you can do.
