- GB Climbing ran an international competition simulation on the Olympic Titan wall at Parthian Climbing in Wandsworth, London.
As well as an international route setting team - including Olympic route setters - there were various climbing holds from the Olympic hold set.
There was also an international field of athletes that included both Alberto Gines Lopez (Tokyo Olympic Gold Medallist) - as well as Jakob Schubert (Tokyo Olympic Bronze Medallist).
There were 2 rounds of action across 2 days with both semi-final and final rounds.
In this video, Toby talks through his beta and scoring for the event... almost 50 days before the real Olympics kicks off in Paris.
And now Toby is Olympic champion!! 🇬🇧🥇🥇🥇 Congrats
Watching Alberto in the OQS, that man seems to be in crazy form right now. The Olympics is going to be a thrilling watch. I’m rooting for you, Toby!
yeah honestly, i kind of raised my eyebrows when he got gold in 2021 but he seems to have dialed in for this year
He’s insanely strong 💪🏼💪🏼 thank you!
You understand why he is the olympic champion now, great all round athlete and so incredibly strong
@@colemantrebor6574 People think he 'didn't deserve' the gold last time, because of speed and the scoring system. He is proving them wrong!
@@GreeGraato be fair though, his current shape now means nothing about whether or not he deserved it 3 years ago
Your personal insight into training, mindset, and beta are incredibly valuable!
We are SO lucky to be able to peek behind the scenes at Olympic level climbers; NO ONE is making any content of Toby’s caliber to showcase all the training, highlights and lowlights of what it takes to be an elite climber in the Olympics.
Keep up the great work, Toby!
Thank you so much, I’ll try keep the content coming out :)
"I wasn't kicking my liquid chalk there, I was just gently moving it to where I wanted it to be"
I'm gonna borrow that line, ha.
Superb video!
Thank you 🫡😂
It's incredibly fun watching olympic level athletes documenting their journey. Absolutely rooting for Toby!
Thank you!
Splendid idea of showing other climbers, voice-over natural, great editing. Great content as usual. Thank you!
Thank you!!
What is Jonathan Sin doing there LMAO
having fun 🎉!
The content and quality of these videos is insane
Thank you!
Dang, those are some exceptional, quality route settings. Kudos to the route setters.
An what an amazing video. The editing is flawless. The performance displayed by all the climbers. Your insight and that try hard beast mode.
My FAVORITE video on your channel so far!
The boulders were definitely awesome!
Thank you so much I’ll try keep the content coming!
Yo it’s Jonathan Sin my other favourite climbing TH-camr
was gonna ask if it was him😂
Our boy johnny sins
It was actually a comp with 3 olympic medalists 😏
Another Toby banger, good luck at the Olympics
1 minute after the video came out 💀
Thank you :)
The video is soooo well produced!!!!those boulders are insane
Thank you!!
Love these videos! The boulders are amazing but what makes them extra special is learning about the internal journey and the thought processes to solve the problems, thank you for sharing them!
Toby well done really nice video behind the scenes. It gave me so much insight of how the best climbers in the world are preparing before the competitions🎉what i love the most is the nice atmosphere you guys are in, helping each other to success❤ its so nice to see that even if you are rivals you work together to get stronger
What a great event, thanks for sharing! Really nice video and editing of you and everyone climbing. All the hard work is really paying off, you look fit and ready, rooting for you in August!
Thank you so much!!
I just came here after the Olympics. The insights make climbing so much more interesting. I didn't get it before - how climbing is more than just strength and technique. It's bloody amazing to see the problem solving, and the sheer elegance of everything!
Wow. Mind-blowing. I'm a huge fan of this now. I also love how the competitors are all rooting for each other - like it's some sort of celebration of what the human body can achieve.
Thanks Toby, over the years I have watched a lot of channels about bouldering and a shedload of videos and I can honestly say you and your camera person (?Dad) have hit upon the best way I have ever seen of putting together a reprise of a comp. I came away awed at such a great video.
Love seeing the fight you've shown in IFSC comps still there at unofficial comps/training sessions. Good luck to everyone at OQS and then the Olympics!
Thank you :)
The editing, smooth scripted narration and music, as well as amazing moves and climb crew make this a really top quality video. Thanks @toby!
Alberto is really showing the world that he deserved that gold medal!
Great video, love the commentary with your thought process after the session has ended. Would've liked even more if there hadn't been any tiny spoilers throughout the video, it breaks the tension for us viewers :)
Thank you and I appreciate the feedback 🙌🏼
Rooting for you so hard on the Olympics!
Thank you 🤩
I remember seeing you post that insane top on M2 from the finals on Instagram and hoping you’d be putting out a video about it! This was, as per usual amazingly put together and full of great insight, looking forwards to your next one😊
Thank you, stay tuned 😉
so sick! Haven't been able to watch any of the OQS so this is really filling that void. Great video!
Thank you!
Congrats Toby for winning the Olympics.Love from Singapore
Great video Toby. Rooting for you this year!
Thank you 🫡
Grats on the Gold @paris
Incredible video again Toby thanks!
Thank you!
Is very interesting to see how much you can progress in a quite short time. Love you videos, good luck at the olimpics
Thank you 🫡
Damn it… so much respect for you and other athletes for hard work and dedicated!
And now you can count yourself among them lad! Hold your head high young man.
Great event, great insights, and some excellent climbing too. Such an awesome video!
such an amazing community 🥹
The best 🤩
I'll root for you three guys, and for Alex Megos as well. Hope you'll have a good day in the finals and feel satisfied with your own performance^^
Please update the title: "We ran an Olympic Comp with 2 Olympic Gold Medallists" Yeah!!! Awesome Toby. Completely awesome.
Another great video! I always enjoy watching the collabortative and friendly attitude among even elite climbers.
Unfortunately I dislocated both my shoulders watching at 15:00 - holy cow...
😂😂
We're rooting for you, Toby!
I'd rather here the actual audio while climbing. I like hearing people helping etc. Maybe a mix of that and the music audio over stuff
Thanks for the feedback 👌🏼
Been waiting on a video so stoked bro
Hope you enjoyed!
How is no one talking about Toby supergluing his fingernail?? Wouldn't that hurt like hell? Had to replay that bit twice coz I was certain I heard it wrong
GET THAT GOLD TOBY! YOU GOT IT IN YOU BROTHER!
🔥🤩
@@TobyClimbing What is it about beetroot?
Beetroots are rich in nitrate and anthocyanins. Both provide health benefits but it's primarily the nitrates that give the performance benefits.
Once ingested, the nitrate is converted in the mouth by the local bacteria into nitrite. In the acidic conditions of the stomach, the nitrite is then converted to nitric oxide, which is absorbed into the bloodstream.
Nitric oxide dilates blood vessels, which delivers oxygen more quickly to the muscles, so energy can be burned to fuel the exercising muscles.
The result is that less energy is used for performance, which means it takes longer to tire.
@@TobyClimbing beetroot > red bull ;)
these videos are so well put together! Thank you!
I hope the two zones boulders stay for other comps, the slightly longer boulders with several cruxes look amazing
Me too I love having longer boulders!
Topping boulder 2 looked so sick
I loved that Boulder 🔥
Toby you did great.
As always maximum effort from your part but seeing Alberto climb...
he has this floating feeling when he's on the wall.
He seems that he is pulling effortlessly on absolutely nothing.
May God help you all at the Olympics cause he is here to content very seriously for gold.
I am sure you'll be up there as well.
This is why I love our sport. Where else do you get athletes helping eachother and working together months before competing against eachother at the Olympics
Epic content, thanks Toby! Great to watch
Toby, this video was sick! Thanks for making it, and you’re gonna crush at the Olympics for sure 👍
I just have one question, that you obviously don’t have to answer. I’m on a youth team and at the gym, there is no slab. Do you think this will be important in my overall development as a climber? (Mostly for comps)Thanks so much!
Thank you!!
Training slabs is very important I think, it really helps you become a better technical climber and they are a big part of the comps!
@@TobyClimbing thanks so much!
kinda crazy that the title doesn't have to be changed, since you still have two 2024 olympic medalists in the vid
Amazing style of video
Thank you 🫡
Love u Toby ❤
😘
@@TobyClimbing looking forward to your comp analysis
Best of luck in Paris!
Thanks!!
so accidental superglue > chalk. im making a mental note of that! (kidding. one of the few channels i watch the videos from start to end. thanks again toby and allez for paris!)
When I suggest someone use super glue for various skin flappers and issues they always look at me like I am insane. But it works.
It’s saved my life many times 😅
super glue was developed originally for medical use.
@@TobyClimbing acetone will remove it - one more chemical for your bag?
Great video. Somewhat saved my day after I couldn't go today since I came down with a fever.
Will you be at Villars for the European Championship this year?
Get well soon! No unfortunately not :(
Great video man
i hope one day i'll compete against you
Love u showing the aussie Campbell Harrison! ❤️
I'm curious about being obligated to invite all the IFSC countries when using IFSC setters. Is this only when it's a (mock) competition format? Because I thought Magnus' video with you also used IFSC routesetters -- but maybe I misunderstood?
Great to see South African representation!
I saw you used the bolt holes on the slab is that going to be allowed in the Olympics
Screw holes are in bolt holes are out 🫡
Nice Video. But I'am missing the German Team. Would love to see you and Alexander Megos together again.
10:54 did I just see colin duffy with a beard?
It might just be my inexperience in comp stuff, but what was wrong with the tops > top attempts > zones > zone attempts scoring system? It was a lot easier to understand - which you'd think would really matter for an Olympic comp 🤷
The problem with that scoring system is that there is no easy translation/comparison between lead and boulder.
And the whole idea of the Olympic score format is that both Boulder and Lead can be added together so they are equally important for the final result.
@@santiagogf89 Oh yeah, right, sorry - I keep forgetting the IOC is still being stupid about sport climbing medals 🤦
@@TrackpadProductions At least we got 4 medals now instead of 2...
great video
Thanks!
Super glue is aid
Agreed
16:36 what are those tricep muscles
What are the rules regarding shirts off at the Olympics?
21:18 wild Jake Mason?
👀
Nice
15:37 ...ZLaner?
CAN I CLIMB WITH YOU TOBY?!
Taking off your shirt must be banned in the official comps bc it's tbe same advantage as PED use
3*
Are there any other Olympic sports where the sport's way of being "played" is determine by humans?
the notex holds are reatarded
@wideboys 11:34
That contortionistic shoulder move on the finals boulder was crazy... Even the basically impossible finals slab was insane. Great work, awesome video too!
Thank you so much!
Love seeing the community aspect of climbing is still there even between competitors, great video
Climbing has a great community 😊
It’s mind-blowing how Alberto always PEAKS just right for the Olympics. You are still my pick for A MEDAL IN PARIS
'always', but there has been only one olympic comp so far. but yeah he's super strong!
@@LianaAkobianI think his point is that he had a terrible boulder season last year, and just a few months before the Olympics, he absolutely dominated at Shanghai and it seems like he is gonna do it in Budapest OQS as well
not so much mind blowing and just good preparation ;)
He’s a beast 💪🏼💪🏼
Watching this after you won Gold, what an amazing journey . Congratulations 🎉
Extremely well edited. I love to see behind the scenes of comps and other stuff, thats happening. Keep it up! (Sorry for the bad english)
Thank you so much! Don’t worry your English is great 👌🏼
can understand your frustration and I know what I say wont change anything, but dude you are in a crazy form at such a young age and with such a professional mindset (commenting your own climbs is such a genius way of learning; may open important doors/sponsering etc.)... I think even with a little bit less tension you are on an incredible path :)
Thank you so much :))
love your video! and really wondering is using the bolt holes on the volume part of the design
Maybe not what the setters intended but it’s almost impossible to fully block all the screw holes so we always use them 😉
that shoulder move at 14:40 was ridiculous haha, good luck at the olympics!
Thank you!!
It's always great seeing all the different climbers from all nations training together and helping each other out. That's one of the aspects I love about climbing.
I will be in Innsbruck and cheering you on. :)
no liquid chalk was harmed during the making of this video
Absolutely
I always wonder what if climbers were given more time to work on the problem, because some moves just looked impossible if no one has pulled ut off in the comp.
Thanks for showing the footage during the working session! All the best in Paris!
Thank you so much! The hardest part about these problems is definitely the time limit 🫣
Cheers for the awesome video Toby!! Btw - what does the 'Titan wall' mean?
Thanks! The titan wall is the bouldering wall used in the Olympics!
Love the narrating style, really insightful. I imagine its nice to work the problems after with the other climbers. Do you know where you would've landed with your score in finals?
Thank you! Always great to work the problems with the athletes afterwards. We didn’t keep to tight a track of the scores as it was just a training and for people to get out of it what they wanted to! 👌🏼
Good luck in Paris Toby. ✌️❤
Thank you 🫡
Allways rooting for you, I'm coming to Paris to watch and i'll be there for ya in the crowd
Thank youuu
The slab looks like M3 in the Olympic qualifying finals... 😏
Toby, Olympic winner. How cool is that?
Well done
how you develop so strong core? i notice that you do most moves statically
Impressive work and great video as always! Its always very interesting to see your thought process and mindset as an Olympian and World Cup athlete. Keep being a huge inspiration to everyone out there!
Thank you so much :D
Amazing video as always. Out of interest do the climbing holds ever repeat on world cups or are they new every time? E.g do you ever walk out and think 'oh I remember that hold looks nice but isn't' or vice versa? Also hope you have fun at kitting out next week :)
Yes every brand of climbing hold used in world cups has to be listed by the Ifsc so quite often we know the holds we are climbing on :)
attracted by the cover haha, congratulations~
Surprised to see ol mate Johnny Sins in the vid 😂
