This was VERRRRY WELL produced and edited. Her story and perseverance come across loudly. Thank you for highlighting such a quiet talent ready to be HEARD. Good job Adidas!
If you haven't seen it, there's a documentary called The Wall that came out around the Tokyo Olympics which follows Miho (as well as Janja, Brooke and Shauna) that's really good
So sorry you didn't make finals Miho, you're still my #1 climbing inspiration!! I hope you can keep smiling - you've already done incredible things and we know you'll continue to! :)
One of my favorite times was watching Miho, Akiyo Noguchi, and Janja Garnbret battle back and forth each winning different competitions against each other leading up to the Olympics. For me that was the big showdown and all three showed out amazingly.
Must include Shauna Coxsey in the group - for a couple IFSC World Cup seasons all the comps w/ the four of then were a blast to cheer on. All four. Whoever made podium REALLY earned it.
I'm so hyped for the Olympics, can't believe it's that time again already. Memory of Miho, Janja and Akiyo sharing the podium is stell fresh. And there's so many other talents now, Natalia, Brooke, Oriane, Ai, so many others.
I really like her mom. She's obviously a very Japanese person in terms of her approach, but in some ways she has opened up a bit to a few Western ideas and chosen to meet her daughter where she was, rather than trying to rigidly enforce a standard. It seems she's been a key reason that Miho still looks at a very difficult sport and a grueling life of training as something fun and enjoyable to do. It hasn't been drilled so hard that it felt like a chore. It's a very good approach to life and one that has allowed her naturally to strive for that classic Japanese perfection, but in her own way. Intriguing and inspirational, for sure! Bon chance à Paris!
@@yo2trader539 dunno what you're trying to say. To me Judo or any other japanese martial art looks less western than climbing. Surely Japan always had people climbing rocks and trees in the history of Japan, just not the way we know it today It's surprising you needed this explanation
That's a healthy approach. Nothing like what my parents did. Some parents don't know what they want you to do and keep being parasytes your whole life. Just gotta spot it in time and shake such people off. Not worth it. I have money but I am not happy with how things went. I am not happy. Thanks to my loving parents who wanted something good for me and always mocked me for things that interested me i.e. sports etc.
@@starkscream I could have money either way, I was always smart ever since I was a kid. Things that interested me could probably bring even more money. Either way it seems like you completely missed my point
If anyone was wondering the superb music background from the second part of the video is Attacca - Spearfisher & Brianna Tam. Should have been put in the description, amazing piece of music.
Beautifully produced video, leading viewers to care about the person, not just her accomplishments and future prospects. I'm a new fan in America, and I'll be rooting for her in Paris.
Wow her mom is epic :)! Also, so much of her daily life being used for climbing resting interviews and sponsors. Quite the dedication and sacrifice! 8:36 Ahwwww the origin of the name Miho is so beautiful!
Such an inspiration, Miho! I love your determination, dedication and delicacy for climbing. All the love this sports deserves. パリでもうがんばれえー!!!ミホに応援します🔥🎉
I love Miho. Has.a beautiful style. I look forward to the day though when her, Brooke, and others, move on from the comp scene and start putting down boulders outside. Love how she got her name as well.
When she was talking about her finger always opening that was something I really got and it's stressful. I had a Pyogenic Granuloma on my left pointer finger and when that opens it bleeds a crazy amount. Made me super self conscious to go to the climbing gym because it opened up every time and would bleed all over everything. It's also insane how good Nonaka's English is!! She is my favorite Japanese climber.
Watching videos of climbers like Miho has inspired me to get back into it. It's been years, can't even do a proper pull up anymore :) Wish me luck. Also I don't know who her English teacher was, but Miho sounds Canadian when she speaks it haha
The first climbing competition I ever watched was the Vail World Cup the year Janja swept the bouldering season (thanks TH-cam algorithm for suggesting it for some reason, lol). I was impressed by Janja, course (who wouldn’t be?), but I was really intrigued by Miho. Something about her just made me go, “Who is that? She seems cool.”
Miho’s mom explanation for how she chose her name was just beautiful.

Miho's fighting spirit is what makes her a favorite of mine
what athlete doesn't have a 'fighting spirit'? you can't be an athlete who gives up every second

i could honestly watch a whole documentary film about Miho, so much respect for her
You just did?
On flix there was one that covered a few of the climbers preparing for tokyo, miho being one of them. Was a nice insight.

which made the ending to the tokyo olympics really great. All 3 of them on the podium. It is kind of sad that this has ended now.
@@carlosdumbratzen6332 Akiyo retiring made me sad but she hit all her goals. She's still making climbing videos with Tomoa though!

That's not particularly "western," at least in the Japanese sense.
